Hi Craicnetters!

I was looking for the other thread and see it's fallen way down the list so I decided to make a new one for all our daily musings ☘️

But the papers , RTE etc said the service was free until now?

I understood that to mean that rip.ie weren’t charging, though the funeral directors may have done so for organising it/their time etc.
But I’m not 100% sure…

The rip.ie website says
“To publish a death notice on RIP.ie, simply ask your funeral director to do so. This is a service offered to bereaved families by all funeral directors in Ireland who have secure access to the site for the purpose of publishing death notices for funerals which they are undertaking. There is a fee for this service payable to the Funeral Director.”

Rip.ie made roughly €265 thousand profit in 2023.

Tbh I'm not sure who got what, I assumed when they said their fee included a fee to RIP that RIP were getting it in full, maybe the funeral homes just kept it themselves. I had asked on our family WhatsApp last night and one of my brother's said for 2 of funerals that we actually had to pay that part upfront before leaving the funeral home for the RIP announcement and one of my sister's remembers them saying it would delay the announcement if we didn't pay for the RIP upfront.

That seems very harsh 😮

The profits made by rip.ie weren’t terribly high, considering they do charge funeral directors for advertising, and also charge people putting up acknowledgments and anniversary remembrances (€20 - €30). They employ 5 people. If they did charge for death notices up til now (and the papers say they didn’t) it can’t have been that much?

Joe Duffy needs to tell us. Conor Pope too..
But Irish Times...

The sun has set, the Christ Church cathedral nine lessons and carols is over, the candle is in the window, so

Happy Christmas.

And although I'm making trifle for tomorrow, I'm going to cook the gluten-free pudding I've had in for a while and have a bit this evening. It claims to be best before April 2024, but I'm sure it will still be fine.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 24/12/2024 17:30

Happy New Year from Down Under. We had a spectacular view from DS2'S balcony on the 36th floor overlooking the Yarra river.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 01/01/2025 14:01

That's so cool honeyrider!
It was a stormy evening in Cork.
DD got soaked when she went out to see the fireworks.
