Hi Craicnetters!

I was looking for the other thread and see it's fallen way down the list so I decided to make a new one for all our daily musings ☘️

It’s just over now, more or less. I didn’t see any badges or collections or anything but then I’m not in a city. People can support it online too though if they want.

“The Fuchsia Appeal will be launched on the 26th September 2024 at 1200, at the Defence Forces Memorial, Merrion Square West, Dublin and finish at the Defence Forces Veteran Coffee Mornings, which will be held in Defence Forces barracks/posts/ships and in other locations on Friday 25th October/Friday 1st November.
The Fuchsia Appeal will conclude on the Niemba Day Commemoration, Saturday 9th November 2024.”

Thanks TwirlBar for posting the link to Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann, the support group for veterans of the Irish defence forces. They sell the fuchsia badges in their online shop.

Good luck to the British for wearing the poppy to support their veterans. If that support is also given to Irish people who fought with the British military, that's appropriate, but I don't see why we should contribute. We have our own veterans to support and that's what O.N.E. [Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann ] does, and I'm happy to contribute to them and to wear the fuchsia badge to show my support.

I think a gift voucher on its own is an errand. If you go into the groceries dept it is picked up with the messages. If you get sidetracked and accidentally buy an outfit, that was while running errands.
My grandfather's were Irish, well one was Irish and half Welsh... both were in the British army. One badly wounded, one a pow. My Canadian distant cousin is sorting out an Irish passport. It's very confusing.
One of the Canadians was married to a US army person in the sixties, and stationed in Germany. She had childbirth complications and was taken to a civilian hospital. The baby was stateless...not born in a US hospital, not German. The baby ended up with an Irish passport, grandparents born before partition who emigrated!

I see a man has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of Jo Jo Dollard. I hope her remains are found so her family can finally get some closure.

PabloTheGreat · 11/11/2024 15:32

I saw that. Some journo tweeted that it wasn't the prime suspect!

It's a case that's always resonated because we were of a similar age and thumbing all around the country.

Wendysfriend · 11/11/2024 15:55

Hopefully some closure for the family. Fingers crossed, strange, I had only just seen the new appeal over the weekend and now an arrest so quickly.

If he's in his 50s then he would have been same age as her ?

It sure was different times, I think many of us hitched it without a second thought, when I think back to some of the things I did 😳

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 11/11/2024 16:08

Yes I though the same, he would have been young himself at the time. I wonder if she was a one-off or is he responsible for any of the other missing girls? Either way as I said I hope her remains can be found and laid to rest. What an ordeal for the family.

These are my sentiments too.
Thinking of her family.

I do too.
The pain and suffering of the family and friends of all those missing in Ireland must be enormous.

eggandonion · 11/11/2024 19:58

I wonder how they got a new lead after all these years. I really hope the family gets some answers.

Wendysfriend · 12/11/2024 10:09

I see a name has been mentioned a lot across many different platforms. Was surprised to see some TDs name him and his father.

😔😔😔😔

Is this a cover up or did the Gardai not have any evidence?

What time can they hold him until today ?

JaneJeffer · 12/11/2024 10:16

There's going to be a lot of questions if he is charged

OP posts:
LifeInAHamsterWheel · 12/11/2024 10:17

Yes, there's a lot of talk about it and the same name coming up over again (and it's not Larry Murphy)
Best not to spell it out on here just in case.
I really really hope her family get closure and the person responsible is finally punished.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 12/11/2024 16:05

And he's been released without charge, again. Her family must be distraught Sad

JaneJeffer · 12/11/2024 16:14

Hopefully they'll find some evidence soon.

It's such a long time, I hope they locate remains. But I suppose they must need a confession too
Hitching and phone boxes...a whole lifetime ago.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 12/11/2024 16:38

Thing is, it's unlikely that whoever did this raped & murdered someone as a once-off. Usually it's a crime that someone (usually a man) has progressed to from lesser sex offences such as peeping (or nowadays, upskirting) flashing (nowadays 'dickpics') sexual assult etc. So by the time he's raped and murdered, he's also inflicted all sorts onto other women. Then, having raped & murdered at least once, and got away with it, he's most likely gone on to offend again. Certainly in the last 30 years. It's horrific to think about.

eggandonion · 12/11/2024 16:50

I wonder if other women will come forward...or if others have come forward. Is this part of the pressure they are talking about. A body being located would help build a case?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 12/11/2024 20:53

Maybe. Or maybe he was never considered as a possible suspect for anything else over the last 30 years. Please God something will come of the search, they're not finished yet.

LadyEloise1 · 20/11/2024 10:21

Witnessed young feckers after nicking stuff in Home Store and More last evening.
They calmly stood outside the entrance, ripping the containers apart and throwing the wrapping on the ground.
Thieves and litter bugs.
They were between12 and 15 years I guess. Boys and girls.
🥲

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 20/11/2024 12:25

God that's terrible @LadyEloise1 any chance they'll be caught? Might be recognisable on CCTV?

LadyEloise1 · 20/11/2024 12:28

The management knew what they were up to.
They tried to stop it.
The small group made at least 2 forays in to the store. In pairs. Or alone.
The brazeness of unpacking their stolen goods just outside the shop.
They know they are untouchable.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 20/11/2024 14:43

Ugh, that would make my blood boil. What sort of society will we have in the future with these sorts as adults 😩

Carriemac · 20/11/2024 18:04

And Connor McGregor is seen as a role model to kids in some areas

eggandonion · 21/11/2024 15:44

There are some really horrible people about. He owns a massive rental portfolio in Crumlin area? (Hazy Dublin geography...)
