I was looking for the other thread and see it's fallen way down the list so I decided to make a new one for all our daily musings ☘️

He has been in office since 2011! Absolutely ages.

I'm not sure whether I'm imagining a discussion here on wearing poppies or not, but I was pleased to see a little group of people, including the parish priest, at the war memorial in town this morning.

I won't be wearing a poppy ever but I will wear a fuchsia if I see them collecting!

I won't be wearing a poppy because of all the UK militarism stuff, but like the idea of a fuchsia instead. I have some just outside the door. Good to remember the dead grand uncles.

Mind you I haven't seen them collecting since Covid. They used to look so distinguished in their uniforms.

I've never seen one of those - will keep an eye out next year.

It’s just over now, more or less. I didn’t see any badges or collections or anything but then I’m not in a city. People can support it online too though if they want.

“The Fuchsia Appeal will be launched on the 26th September 2024 at 1200, at the Defence Forces Memorial, Merrion Square West, Dublin and finish at the Defence Forces Veteran Coffee Mornings, which will be held in Defence Forces barracks/posts/ships and in other locations on Friday 25th October/Friday 1st November.
The Fuchsia Appeal will conclude on the Niemba Day Commemoration, Saturday 9th November 2024.”

I've never heard of the fuchsia appeal! I would never ever wear a poppy but I might don a fuchsia if I see them on display I'll get one.

"A lovely man stopped me the other day and got out of his car and said he was clearing out a house and he was hoping he might bump into me and would I like this? And I couldn't say "Gosh no thanks" (jk jk) so I said
"Gosh yes thank you" and we said goodbye and I was far enough away from my house so I walked around and did some errands and went to the post office and then walked home just me and my giant framed photo of my husband. It was just so lovely and so Irish níl mé abálta cope-age in aon chor.

For goodness sake @JaneJeffer, Amy is from Foxrock. Her beloved late father was English. Twas never "messages" in that house.

Errands is the post office, atm, credit union and buying a gift voucher.
Messages is Dunnes, Aldi, Lidl and Super Valu. Which my neighbour does on Wednesdays.

What happens if you buy a gift voucher in Lidl?

Or even Dunnes.

It was never messages in my house in rural West of Ireland.

The only person I'm aware that says messages is one of my sisters since she married an awful gobshite that none of us like. Most of his adult children don't go near him.
