Hi Craicnetters!

I was looking for the other thread and see it's fallen way down the list so I decided to make a new one for all our daily musings ☘️

Thank you @MarieDeGournay for the explanation.
So it was donations.
I'm sure many of those donors would be spinning in their graves if they knew the atrocities that occurred on land/property their money was used to buy.

On those programmes where people try to trace their mother nuns seemed to be meticulous in financial record keeping...and mothers often paid for the baby's keep.
Not so good on life admin...birth certs, medical records, fostering, planes to usa...death and burial records.

Oh God, how true @eggandonion

The hypocrisy of them calling themselves Christians. Angry

eggandonion · 16/09/2024 12:14

(I'm on the thread about class chatting about our local nuns in England! We also had an elderly priest friend. Looking back we do wonder what all those people knew about their peers).

eggandonion · 26/09/2024 16:38

I am so cold...

DeanElderberry · 26/09/2024 17:27

I closed both north-facing windows in the bedroom this morning. The south-facing one is still just cracked. Woodstove lit and heating on for a little while to top up.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 26/09/2024 17:42

It is indeed very chilly! A real nip in the air.

eggandonion · 26/09/2024 19:30

I'm sure we have had milder weather in December recently than today.

DeanElderberry · 26/09/2024 19:32

I see a forecast of possibly down to 1 tonight and -1 tomorrow. And I haven't brought the pot plants in.

eggandonion · 26/09/2024 22:01

I can't cope with 6 months of cold. Waaaaa.

halfpasteleven · 27/09/2024 11:46

It's bright and breezy here but much colder. Lovely to see a blue sky. Sunday not looking good now so better make the most of this (as I lie on the couch with a hot water bottle)

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 29/09/2024 11:09

We're getting a hammering down South. There's no way anyone is putting a foot outside the door today 🌧🌧🌧

DeanElderberry · 29/09/2024 11:19

It hasn't got here (and may not with hills in the places they are) yet but I have brought in firewood and taken out rubbish and am contemplating filling a few cans of water so I can flush the loo if the electricity goes out.

honeyrider · 29/09/2024 11:24

It's only started raining here in Waterford City in the last hour, strong wind too. I better pop to the shops before it gets worse.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 29/09/2024 11:27

It's been really bad since early this morning. Torrential rain with occasional gusts.

LadyEloise1 · 29/09/2024 11:40

So far just very windy here in Dublin.
Big dark clouds looming . ☹️

honeyrider · 29/09/2024 16:01

Torrential rain and wind here for the last two hours, stove is lit so it's a day on the couch for me.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 29/09/2024 17:26

It hasn't let up all day. Still raining hard but winds have eased a bit.

UtopiaPlanitia · 30/09/2024 14:08

After that weekend I’m seeing brown leaves on some of the trees around here, as well as leaves on the ground. I think the autumn is definitely arrived - there’s a proper wee nip in the air this last few days.

loropianalover · 30/09/2024 14:45

We’ve done a fire yesterday and today 🙈 feel like summer is over… We had a nice week or two last year in October so would love to get that again. I remember because we moved house that week and got very sunburnt.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/10/2024 15:24

Ah here you all are! This thread had dropped off my watch list and I lost track! Came on to Craicnet to see if anyone had mentioned the budget and found you again. I always find the weeks speed up once the kids go back to school. It doesn't help that tubs of Celebrations & Roses are in the shops already now too, it all gives me 'winter' feels. Which I don't mind, but not this early! At least the spiders might be gone now for another year...

eggandonion · 01/10/2024 15:34

I think the school year speeds up at Halloween. Possibly because schools go back in August which is September in my mind. So September drags on!
I'm sure we will all feel really happy with the budget and ready for an election!

DeanElderberry · 04/10/2024 07:55

RIP Mary O'Rourke.

LadyEloise1 · 04/10/2024 08:39

I wasn't a fan.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 04/10/2024 08:53

May she rest in peace. For me, she represented the wrong party. However, I recognise her commitment to politics particularly at a time when it was very male dominated. She was a strong, forceful woman and stood her ground and I admired that.

DeanElderberry · 04/10/2024 09:15

At that time, when it was Haughey vs Fitzgerald, she was the wrong party for me, but I respected her as a woman who blazed a trail. I also knew a fairly senior female civil servant who was very pro her as a politician to work with - felt she was honest and neither a manipulator nor a bully, in contrast to many others at that time. She was disappointed MO'R didn't get the party leadership post-Haughey, but with hindsight Reynolds (who I think was a lot dodgier that we were ever let know) was probably the only man who could have delivered the negotiations that led to the IRA ceasefire and the place we're in now.
