Anyone inclined to give an opinion? I am leaning towards a yes/no vote, the yes to remove what I see as sexist language in the constitution, the no because the government are so appalling in terms of providing services and rights to disabled citizens and I feel the clause is paternalistic and pushes care on families yet again

@festivefavorites · Who's 'your lot'? You do realise that there are women who campaigned for marriage equality and Repeal who are not voting yes.

Exactly. I voted against the 8th in 1983. I voted for divorce both times. I voted for marriage equality. I campaigned and voted to repeal the 8th. And I am voting No and No in the upcoming referenda.

Radyward · 28/02/2024 19:59

In a nutshell, a womans place is in the constitution . Vote NO

Onceacheetah · 28/02/2024 21:10

I assume Flounder is someone else who can't be asred to argue with stupid.

#VoteYesNo

If you're voting No then are you on the side of the Gript I'm afraid - which in your words makes you far right.

JaneJeffer · 28/02/2024 22:59

Don't be daft @Farmageddon

Huh? My only mention of far right was a critique of people using the term as a way of dismissing those who disagree with them.

And no, I'm not on the side of Gript. My reasons for voting no are different to those of many socially conservative individuals. They are the same as some. That doesn't mean I agree/disagree with them on everything. I engage with a wide variety of opinion in order to help me analyse and research different aspects of an issue to come to a position that makes sense to me.

You seem to be severely lacking in critical thinking if you can't see that.

Farmageddon · 28/02/2024 23:40

Ooops, sorry I thought you were Onceacheetah, sorry! I keep getting your usernames mixed up.

But my username is steeped in culture (and the horrors of Peig). How could you🙁

DeanElderberry · 29/02/2024 06:28

The only trouble with your name is that sometimes I want to use those words to lament the state of the world and daren't in case you think I'm blaming you. On here that is. In the wider world I carry on invoking the spirit of Peig and my own grandmother. Also wirrastrue.

DeanElderberry · 29/02/2024 06:31

I do find onceacheetah's approach to life of picking an enemy and letting them decide what she or he should think on every subject not only daft but also dangerous. Quite common with lazy thinkers though, I fear.

100% agree. It's scary the number of people who choose a side and that's it, their opinions are decided upon for everything.

StephanieSuperpowers · 29/02/2024 09:22

Yeah, I mean, to me, it's outsourcing your thoughts to the people you hate. I don't decide what I think based on what Gript or anyone else thinks! Why would I give them that much command of my brain?

Poor aul Peig. By all accounts she was great craic altogether but the story was censored to match sensibilities of the time.

I did always wonder why they never fenced off the cliff, given all the cows and children falling off it.

Yes. It's the advantage of a working brain.

TDs very vocal in the Dáil about a certain media outlets biased, unbalanced reporting. Yet again proving all media is subjective & has an agenda.

Hence the importance of being well read, logical & getting news from ALL sources not stupidly dismissing willy nilly because one didn't like the one & only article they read 🤣

You just don't get it, do you?

You see, biased, unbalanced reporting is fine when it's representing their point of view and excluding any opposing views.

VoteNONO · 29/02/2024 14:33

@OchonAgusOchonOh nope I get it that's why I like to read all new outlets & get my sources from everywhere, Gript & RTE included.
However I do agree with TDs mentioned in this article , RTEs reporting on the referendum has been very biased.
I can come to this conclusion as I have been watching the news, primetime & have read articles on RTEs page.
They have been very biased towards a yes vote as have other mainstream media outlets that I follow.
Every outlet has a bias Gript included.

I thought my sarcasm was obvious😁.

I 100% agree with you. I also read a wide variety of sources. I've even been known to shout at some of them as I disagree with them so vehemently. I believe the only way to be fully informed is to read widely and from a variety of perspectives.

VoteNONO · 29/02/2024 16:51

@OchonAgusOchonOh apologies ☺️ 💐
I think this past year especially people have taken onboard alternative media alongside the traditional media sources, opinions are changing & people are no longer afraid to question the status quo any longer.

Beautiful though, if you like that sort of thing...
