Anyone inclined to give an opinion? I am leaning towards a yes/no vote, the yes to remove what I see as sexist language in the constitution, the no because the government are so appalling in terms of providing services and rights to disabled citizens and I feel the clause is paternalistic and pushes care on families yet again

@festivefavorites thanks

jonnytightlips · 28/02/2024 14:49

Hasanyone not got their voting cards yet?
My husband and I are both registered and we are on the "check the register" site and we have not received them as yet, I am getting a bit worried nowHmm

Slanabhaile · 28/02/2024 14:59

We got ours early last week, or possibly the week before. Definitely have them for a while now.
I know they say you can vote without them, just with ID, but I've never done it.

DeanElderberry · 28/02/2024 14:59

I got mine, also one for my mother who died more than 5 years ago. Sadly I live in the kind of rural location where you get greeted by name as you go in the door, and they check you off the list without having to ask your townland, so no chance of my corrupting the system.

JaneJeffer · 28/02/2024 15:02

We haven't got our cards yet

Ours came today!

That grand, great to know I can show up with my id.
I don't trust what's going on at the moment so was getting just a little bit paranoid!!

I love when people share Gript links. You instantly know not to even bother reading their post. Far right weirdos.

Or people who are sufficiently capable of critical thinking that they can assess various sources and determine which elements are worth considering.

Lots of gript is biased and comes from a socially conservative perspective. That doesn't mean all of it is nonsense or irrelevant.

I personally love when people dismiss particular sources without reading them. It shows they are incapable of critical thinking and unwilling to be exposed to anything they disagree with. You instantly know not to bother reading their posts as they are incapable of original thought.

I also love when people refer to those who disagree with them as "far right". It means they are rigid and unwilling to listen to anyone who has a different perspective. You instantly know they won't listen to anything that doesn't fit their narrow, biased worldview.

StephanieSuperpowers · 28/02/2024 17:59

My polling card came weeks ago. I did have to re-register though, so maybe they were looking to get rid of me moaning!!

What a weird way of thinking - totally dismissing something without even reading it. How very immature.

I'm guessing this is either Orla, Leo or Roderic 😂

You’re generous in suggesting the poster is an adult given the childishness of the post content!

What a small little mind you have @Onceacheetah .

Fortunately I'm in a position to get my news stories from many sources as we live in a democracy! Were you not aware of this?

I can read Gript, RTÉ, The Examiner, The Irish Times, the Indo, listen to Newstalk..
Compare & contrast opinions then draw my own conclusions. Free thinking & critical thinking!

It seems to me you would prefer censorship & state propoganda 🤠

Love the way you throw in the far right shite. A sure sign of a well read, astute individual capable of a logical debate.... Not!

For someone who's not far right you sure use a lot of their buzzwords!

The time for your lot is gone! Ireland is an inclusive, progressive country now and all the better for it.

Educate me on far right buzz worlds please 😁😁 and list the ones I used in my post! Please don't flounder about 😉🐠

I've read a few articles in the distant past and quickly realised what type of organisation (far right) it was, so I now dismiss anything they promote. That's ok isn't it? Free thinking.

Onceacheetah · 28/02/2024 18:51

The really sad thing is, this nonsense divides us so we don't come together to tackle the real issues we have. Half of us are fighting an imaginary bogeymen. And while we're fighting each other the government will sneak in more legislation that "strives" to give us what we need. 🙄I

Sure it's all right.

It tends to be the approach of those incapable of critical thinking but that's obviously your choice.

And your posts on here are reaching out to try and bring us together.

Hint: insulting people and derogatory language is really not the way to achieve that.

I do love a good conspiracy theory though. Could you share some of yours please?

Whatever you say Flounder!

Unfortunately I can't take you seriously nor can I engage with you further as you are clearly not very well read if you can dismiss a whole publication (especially one that is gaining a very, very large following!)
In a democracy it's very important to read all news sources available, look at all agendas (as no publication is completely neutral) & draw conclusions.
Unfortunately Flounder you see still the same, your lack of insight & critical thinking is always so obvious in your posts.
I'll engage with you no further, I prefer to discuss matters with intelligent, well read mumsnetters who know what they are talking about. Bye bye🐠

festivefavorites · 28/02/2024 19:17

Who's 'your lot'?
You do realise that there are women who campaigned for marriage equality and Repeal who are not voting yes.
Or are you talking about people with disabilities who are campaigning for a no vote?
Or carers who will receive a clap on the back from the government when they tell them they will strive to support them while they provide round the clock care unseen and alone.
Tom Clonan?
ICCL?

I would consider these people to be open minded and progressive.

I would consider people who object to diversity of opinion and thought to be the 'far right'.

See how it goes?

Have you read the Gript article?
Your earlier post indicates not. If you haven't then how do you feel in a position to comment on its content? Or are you afraid that by reading it or agreeing to anything in it your opinions might be challenged?
Not everything is about extreme views. Most people are somewhere in the middle, making up their minds by reading a wide variety of opinions.
