Referendum!

Anyone inclined to give an opinion? I am leaning towards a yes/no vote, the yes to remove what I see as sexist language in the constitution, the no because the government are so appalling in terms of providing services and rights to disabled citizens and I feel the clause is paternalistic and pushes care on families yet again

Twitter, hmm, excellent research material.

Twitter, hmm, excellent research material.

If you look, they’re actually mainly links to articles, the post was shared on twitter so I imagine the person who posted it found it expedient to link them that way. Before you start making negative comments yet again, please check what you’re commenting on.

I really liked this. I hope it's readable.

Referendum!
Languageofdelight · 05/03/2024 00:01

Nope. Sorry. It's the indo if anyone has online access.

VoteNONO · 05/03/2024 00:04

@Languageofdelight I couldn't make out the text when I zoomed in but the heading is good enough for me!
At this point I think it will most certainly become an anti government vote.
Watching the news & reading many articles today shows that the government clearly know that they may very well be defeated.

Good enough for them on International Women's Day & Mothers Day weekend.

Trying to remove both from the constitution. The significance of the dates is no coincidence.

This government is anti mother & anti women.
VOTE NO NO to keep us woman & mothers in the constitution continuing our place in the history of our the state.

Alan Shatter is a former Minister for Justice, a Consultant in Family Law to the Law Society of Ireland and has written books on the topic of Family Law. This is his contribution.

I can't understand why the government aren't taking on board the alarm bells that are being raised by some prominent legal minds in the country. It doesn't make any sense to just dismiss them.

Amendments are legally flawed

Litigation will be required to unravel legal obscurity and vacuous irrelevance

I stand by my statement great research

Any chance today will be the day you highlight the quote sent me directly requesting what I use for research

Or maybe just even the quote which I referenced Gript?

Dublincailin · 05/03/2024 07:30

Women in this country born between 1900 - 1970's have dam well earned their place on the constitution.

There is not a family in this country that not use those women as slave labour to get their pissy, shitty, bloody sheets scrubbed at some time

Women have earned the right to be recognised in the constitution with hard labour, blood, sweat and tears.

There are no stats, as they would have been kept but there was more than one suicide.

DeanElderberry · 05/03/2024 07:36

I also like having the desirability of 'home' stated in the Constitution as a thing vital to the existence and proper functioning of the state.

I can see why our present pols would be happier to see it removed.

Agree @Dublincailin . Twitter of all things! The cesspit of all things "right wing"!
The most "right wing" of all the social media outlets.
It's owner Elon Musk is also a big supporter of Gript & has given interviews to John McQuirk.
I think the pot is calling the kettle black here 🤣

Do stop mischaracterising what I posted. As I said, the links are mainly to articles and policy documents that were originally linked via twitter. It’s an app with a huge spectrum of opinions.
Characterising everything posted on twitter as anything in particular is like saying all print and paper are the same.

@festivefavorites yes but the government don't care what the legal minds like Alan Shatter think.

They have their agenda. The fact that Roderic O Gorman is refusing to release the details of the meeting which discussed what changes woule come about if the acts passed speaks volumes.

This current government think they are above the law.

This referendum is as much anti government as it is about the two acts & hopefully all who detest this shower & all they stand for will come out!

As a mother of three daughters it must be a No No from me. The future is bleak enough for young girls in this country as it is.

@VoteNONO

There was no "articles" in the twitter links. It was blank pages.

I'm not sure if the pictures loaded

Dublincailin · 05/03/2024 08:04

Even if they scrap this across the line.

Their days in government is limited hopefully 🤞

Their timing of International Women's Day & Mothers Day this weekend was no coincidence.

Kick women & mothers out of the constitution on their dedicated weekend of the year...

DeanElderberry · 05/03/2024 08:08

I'm not convinced 'no' will win on the home question, but at least there'll be an indication of resistance.

Dublincailin · 05/03/2024 08:09

They won't take it on board until a major case goes through the courts which they lose and they are forced into it.

It always takes a court case to have governments do the right thing

I’ve just tested it, articles loaded fine for me. Maybe you need to update your browser.

Isn't that always the case. But by then it will be too late if the referendum passes.

I think it will be a yes no result too.

Dublincailin · 05/03/2024 08:14

Ah so it's my fault the pages are blank.

Gotta 👍

Still waiting on the quote and/or quotes where I referenced Gript and/or where you asked me directly for what I look at to make my decision m.

Dublincailin · 05/03/2024 08:19

@DeanElderberry

I think you are right.

If they lose the care one, the court case coming down will interesting.

It's no coincidence this referendum is set for weeks before the case to be heard, they couldn't have it while the judge/judges deliberated.
