Another dreary day in Ireland

Well, on the East coast anyway. It is so disheartening all this rain. Feel like summer is passing us by.

Was there a heatwave in June in Ireland? We had one here in southern England--about second and third weeks, I recall.

I bought some new t-shirts and a sleeveless cotton dress. This is all my fault.

Nah. May was very good and the first week in June ...Agus sin sin

honeyrider · 01/08/2023 17:58

It's been the wettest July ever recorded in Ireland, 4 times the amount of rain as July last year.

Apart from just over a week in June we've gone from spring into autumn.

Chickenkeev · 01/08/2023 18:07

Idk, it just feels 'normal" wet here. I must be desensitised.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 02/08/2023 14:42

I've just had to turn on the light in the study, in early afternoon, in the summer. And my hydrangeas have fallen over again because of the weight of the rain on the blooms (to be fair they are very showy Annabel and Vanille-Fraise, my lace cap hydrangea is fine).

The Irish weather needs to take a good, hard look at itself and do better.

Annasgirl · 02/08/2023 14:54

I’m working at my desk in front of a huge window - looking at sheets of rain. I am so fed up of it. We went on holiday in early June, to avoid potential heatwaves 😂 , and we got rain in Athens !!! No more sunshine for me until next Summer - I’m already scrolling through holiday websites.

I feel sorry for my DC - they will be back to school without having had as much fresh air as possible. And we have tried to make the most of it, but you can hardly go to the beach or climb a mountain in this weather - although we managed the Sugarloaf last week.

I’m heading West with DC3 for a few days on Sunday and hoping for a miracle.

But I’m glad I found this thread - misery loves company 😉

It is bucketing down here, and blowing a gale, I was out in the car earlier and the temperature was 13 degrees.

I put on the heating the other night.

I haven't bothered to take my summer clothes out of the attic, I'm still wearing my winter jumpers.

I am so utterly fed up with this 'summer'

Happierwithouthim · 02/08/2023 17:12

Betsy I also put on heating last night and priced heating oil today €100 less than when I bought it at end of October, will monitor it and if it starts to rise I'll buy. I am wearing my summer wardrobe however as temperature is still reasonable.

JaneJeffer · 02/08/2023 17:43

I want to know why there's so many flies around! Why haven't they drowned in the rain? Feckers!

honeyrider · 02/08/2023 18:10

I've just turned on the heat as it feels damp and chilly from trying to dry some clothes indoors. I've put some things in the dryer but the things that cannot be tumble dried are taking days to dry so I've put some of them on the radiators.

JaneJeffer · 02/08/2023 18:14

I had to put a fire in the stove for the same reason @honeyrider. Even when the rain stops I don't trust it enough to put stuff on the line!

PlasticSheetingRTÉNews · 02/08/2023 18:56

We had thunder and lightning last night.

Loads of wasps around too. Feckers.

JaneJeffer · 02/08/2023 18:58

We had it too @PlasticSheetingRTÉNews but thankfully it was short lived

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 02/08/2023 19:25

Where do you have wasps @PlasticSheetingRTÉNews? I don't think I've seen any in South Dublin so far this summer. Hundreds of bees in my garden though, which is lovely.

PlasticSheetingRTÉNews · 02/08/2023 19:33

I’m in the midlands, @BlackAmericanoNoSugar

I’ve never seen so many wasps. Had four today make their way into my kitchen.

At one stage last week, we went checking to see if we had a nest somewhere as they were coming in constantly.

alittleadvicepls · 02/08/2023 19:58

All is well everyone. I went and got myself a lovely summer dress today so now the sun just HAS to come out. Naturally. You’re welcome.

I admire your optimism, but it doesn't work that way. If you had bought full rain gear and a dozen umbrellas then the sun would shine. Grin

Lionoso · 04/08/2023 10:32

I gave in and ordered a heated airer this week. I'm fed up having to put heating on to dry washing in July. I haven't been able to line dry for weeks.

alittleadvicepls · 04/08/2023 10:48

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar um excuse me! Is the sun not shining today 😊😊

I'm in Dublin and the best that can be said is that it's not raining and it's warm.

Shurleyknot · 04/08/2023 11:23

Hint of blue off the sky there today I will admit.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 04/08/2023 12:38

Correct @BlackAmericanoNoSugar but then no Irish person would buy rain gear. That's for tourists. We'll just run around with a handbag or newspaper over our heads.

Soonenough · 04/08/2023 12:55

It's a grand drying day where I am. So far. But don't want to get notions and do a load of towels.

Chickenkeev · 04/08/2023 13:00

That wetting type of mist here. Grey, dull and miserable. Sucks for the kids :(

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 04/08/2023 13:41

Nevermind @Chickenkeev the kids will be able to look at the glorious sunshine through the classroom window for the first month that they're back at school. Grin
