Anyone watching this evening? About to go to the attic and get the tree down :)

Nobody is watching with me?? 😥

ineedanewbum · 25/11/2022 19:16

Will be watching here. Put the tree up this morning. Betting on how long the kids will actually stay awake😂. One of my kids is attempting to stay up for the 1st time at almost 4. The bigger ones are super excited🌲🌲 happy toy show night

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 25/11/2022 19:47

I swear every year I will not put the tree up on the toy show night but once again I have succumbed. Mine are older teens but still watch it every year :)

ineedanewbum · 25/11/2022 20:47

There hasn't been enough toys on it in recent years so hopefully that's changed a bit. It's more the tradition of watching it and the novelty for small ones of being allowed stay up late.

Ballygowenwater · 25/11/2022 20:48

My 5 year old is bouncing off the walls with excitement! They were given treat bags at school which she had nearly finished by the time she got
off the bus 🤦‍♀️

No tree yet as we get a real one and it’s just a bit too early for that still but I think from now on we’ll be getting a fake one cos I really want to have it up for toy show night.

ineedanewbum · 25/11/2022 21:34

Well the youngest here has hit the leaba and is snoring. Big ones all excited now though😃

AnImaginaryCat · 25/11/2022 22:08

Only big ones here now but still insisting on watching.

More kids and toys and much, much MUCH less Ryan please.

Peridot1 · 25/11/2022 22:12

I don’t remember it ever being this big a thing when I was growing up but I remember Gaybo doing it. I don’t live in Ireland anymore but I know my sisters have their trees up for it. I cannot do the tree etc before December. It seems to be a lovely thing now though.

JenniferBarkley · 25/11/2022 22:24

Usually there's a massive thread on here! Maybe I just didn't spot it... Anyway, yes! We're watching it. DC1 is 4 so it's recording for her for tomorrow for the first time too.

Fluffnotscruffy · 25/11/2022 22:53

DD (20) and I are on our 2nd bottle of Prosecco. I’ve had a few wee cries and DD having great craic following #thelatlatetoyshow on twitter.

Taytocrisps · 25/11/2022 23:23

Watching here too. The kids have all been great. I knew they'd have a Ukrainian kid on it.

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 26/11/2022 00:23

Ah it was lovely. I mean it is not the best thing ever on telly but there is a lovely element of happiness to it. Great to see a full audience after the last two years. Oldest here thought it was great. Youngest said never again but thats the 5th year in a row for that comment. Me, I will watch it forever just because.

I loved it. DD is abroad and she live streamed it with her boyfriend and we whatsapped thtough the whole show. Was like she was on the sofa with me!!! He was bemused by the idea beforehand, but was hooked by the first ad break and is a total fan now!!!

honeyrider · 26/11/2022 01:13

I loved it, Ryan was calmer this year.

Snowqueen22 · 26/11/2022 01:36

Beautiful kids, every single one of them had me welling up😩 Ryan so much calmer & respectful to the kids, played with them but didn't talk over them as in previous years... My gripe (& I'm showing me fecking age!) was that there wasnt one Christmas carol, hymn or tune... Surely one year there can be a full Christmas theme...! Otherthan that it was the the best one in my dc's lifetime & well done to every single beautiful child on screen tonight!

Taytocrisps · 26/11/2022 08:32

honeyrider · 26/11/2022 01:13

I agree honeyrider. Ryan was less frenetic than previous years and it was a better show for it.

My gripe was with the book reviewers. One of the girls had barely mentioned the title of an Irish language book when he had her sing a song. Then he moved on to the second girl who (iirc) never got to review any book at all. The third reviewer was talking about a GAA book. And they got rubbish prizes - a wooden block with Toy Show on it, or something. At the very least, he could have given them some book vouchers.

I was seriously impressed with Cuckoos Nest and with Cuckoo in particular. She must be incredibly talented to have mastered so many instruments and to able to teach all her grandchildren. I'd like to know more about her.

Some of the kids will be mortified in 10 years or so Grin. Like John-Joe and his clocks and watches from 2009.

honeyrider · 26/11/2022 08:53

John Joe is a legend. 😂

Taytocrisps · 26/11/2022 08:59

Yes, he is. I love how they tracked him down a few years ago. He was a law student in Paris.

ineedanewbum · 26/11/2022 09:39

Well we must have watched different toy shows😆. The kids were great but we saw hardly any toys at all. Tables of toys and they were skimmed over in favour of interviewing the kids and making them sing etc.

While it's nice to have heartfelt parts to the show it wasn't actually much fun was it. Years ago you would see lots of actual toys as well as the chatting to the kids. And as another poster said not one Christmas song or even a Christmas tree. Why do the audience need to dress up in all the Christmas tat when there's nothing Christmassy about the show itself. Half the fun was seeing the toys and the things that went wrong etc. Even the parade with the bikes etc was crazy quick. One of my kids was waiting for the video game section but that's been dropped. I've an avid reader at home but the book review section was very short and nothing she was interested in.

Yes the kids are all lovely and all but no need to call it the toy show anymore unfortunately.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 26/11/2022 10:31

I enjoyed the show. I really liked the opening sequence. I agree with all comments above. Last year I made all the same points!

I live-streamed it from Switzerland and watched while whats-apping the family home in Ireland. Its like a little slice of home! Loved Garda Billy-the-mullet from Kilcullen😂
Loved the opening, liked that they seemed to have more toys at the start and kept the musical acts for later. I felt they rushed the books and if there was a board games section, I missed it. It was great having the audience back in, and LOVED Cuckoo and family!
I put the tree up ... I go back to Ireland on the 20th, so if I dont put it up now, there's no point 😁🌲

I found it very flat. My favourite year was the year Ryan clearly took something in an ad break. Grin

The book corner seems to get less and less attention every year. And I hate when the toy demonstrators do a turn tbh Blush

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 26/11/2022 14:32

They would have had more time to talk about books if they had not had that whole skit on the librarian. Why the hell was that even there like? Totally non sensical.

Snowqueen22 · 26/11/2022 15:10

Yes the book part was very annoying, the poor child in the middle had no time...
