Appalled by the sentencing in the Wexford case (trigger word)

This really has me so so angry. I just don't understand the sentencing. Is it just me?

The sentences are derisory. That poor girl, she is so brave.

There are so many things wrong in that, it beggars belief.

Any reader not so familiar with the details, must be totally shocked to learn that several others in the group stood by and watched events. These observers could have intervened, or at least made the garda case investigation much easier. Animals!!

The sentences are disgusting.

Yes, indeed a lot of the details can't ever appear in the mainstream press, and only locals will be aware (but I know some has been shared in forums).

At a minimum, the main culprit will be out by the time he is 19. Most likely he'd be out in 2.5 years ... to offend yet again no doubt.

I'd imagine that this is a classic case of the influence of porn on young boys. How can a young boy know about all these things? And think to do them?

There are a lot of similarities in this case with the Winnie Li case from a few years ago in Belfast (attacked by a young teen traveler, multiple offense just like AF mentioned with clear porn influence, pleaded guilty, a joke of a sentence).

Yes this jumped out at me in the report this morning. The longer I live the more I realise that many, many, (the majority?) of men do not value women ( I’m speaking about the judge here, not the boys). And please don’t give me NAMALT - I know, I have a DH and 2 DS, but I fear for DD, and the porn addled young men - and old men - who are out there. I really don’t know if these types of crimes are increasing, but it seems as if they are, and certainly the violence snd the voyeurism is a modern development

That is shocking but a lot of rapists sentences are ridiculous considering the lingering effect rape has on the victims

Sounds like the boy is out of control and has no empathy; dangerous. He should be off the streets for a lot longer.

How can you rehabilitate a boy like this ? He isn’t going to grow up and regret a bit of petty pilfering or stealing a car, is he ?

To demonstrate such a disregard for another human life is akin to murder and should be punished as such.

Why the fuck the level of protection for these shits? Why no names? Is it because the names are well known?

Horrendous. She could have been pregnant and had to deal with that and perhaps STDs as well as the rest of it. The younger creature sounds like a very dangerous individual.

I wish it was feasible to ban porn, I really do. The damage done to a whole generation is beyond imagination.

That 14 year old knew what he was doing was wrong.
Drink, drugs ( and age to a point ) should not be mitigating circumstances.

There should be no concurrent sentences.

Extra time should be added on for bad behaviour in prison and good behaviour should be expected and not rewarded by giving prisoners earlier release.

@MichelleScarn, the first rapist was age 14 and his name will not be released, that's the law. The second rapist was his older brother, who would normally be named, but not in this case since it would identify the younger rapist.

Typically in these cases the names are in fact well known locally.

The judge should be ashamed. It's also hard to believe that a group stood by and watched this happen over what must have been an extended period of time (based on the reports)
