Happy Saturday to you all, doesn't it make all the difference to have a bit of sunshine?! Even though it's not exactly warm (it's quite breezy here and there's a real nip in it) the sunlight just seems to lift everybody's mood Smile

Enjoy the weekend everyone, especially if you're meeting up with people you've not seen in a while xx

Gorgeous sunny day here in Dublin but there's definitely wind chill.

MissMaudSilver · 17/04/2021 17:48

I've just bought some cloudy lemon cider in Aldi, hope the sun lasts long enough for me to have some outside. DD has gone for a walk in the park with two school friends, so I can't open it until I collect her

turkeyboots · 17/04/2021 18:12

I think the whole of North Dublin went to Bettystown beach today. It was rammed. Not seen so many non county car registrations in ages!

TheLongRider · 17/04/2021 18:28

I cycled through the Phoenix Park today and gave a wave to Miggeldy's House on behalf of Craicnet. It was cold enough in that wind and the place was rammed with cards.

TheLongRider · 17/04/2021 18:28

Cars!

Thesagacontinues · 17/04/2021 18:55

@TheLongRider I think you need a 'Craicnet' sign so they know youre waving on behalf of us Grin

Most of Cork went to the Long Strand, jumped optimistically into the sea, went blue, screamed, got out again and then tried to get chips at the Fish Basket, which had a woman is hi-vis masterminding a tripartite queueing system, which involved a holding pen on the beach before you actually got into the queue.
Mayzee · 17/04/2021 23:35

Living in a landlocked county, I’ve very envious of your beaches Grin

Carriemac · 18/04/2021 09:26

Had two separate friends send me selfies from long strand this week, was envious until I saw the second families queue pics

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 18/04/2021 20:08

We went to Rocky Bay today to the beach. It was baltic with a very cold wind churning the grey sea into froth. Three brave young ones went into the water in their togs, not a wetsuit between them. It is a wonder that they didn't turn blue. We stayed for a while until we started feeling chilled ourselves and until the whining of young DD reached a crescendo. Then home to a hot drink and hug the stove for a bit of heat. Still, it was the first trip outside the 5km radius that we have been living in for months, so a milestone.

Don't forget to watch or record 'Reeling in the Years' later to see what we were all up to in 2011.

BiddyPop · 19/04/2021 10:40

DH and DD took pup to Dun Laoghaire to walk the pier on Saturday afternoon - and spent half an hour stuck in traffic as all of South Dublin descended on the harbour....the only reason they drove was pup is still only very young and not up to walking that far. I think we are all going to be cycling everywhere locally for the summer (there were also lots of cars having problems with the 1 way system put in last year on the seafront, and the other alternative route to Main Street is Corrig Road, which is closed for works until late summer - so 3 routes now using Main St).

Parents were jabbed last week. So they're getting excited about seeing us all soon (and keep forgetting we're not jabbed yet!).

But Cubs all excited about meeting in person, even if only 2 Patrols at a time, very soon. (The other 2 Leaders are so excited that they want a hike, and to facilitate only 2 Patrols at once and us not having enough spare Leaders for 2 groups at once, are prepared to do 2 ascents in a day!! EEk, I'd better get walking again to prepare for that!!).

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 19/04/2021 12:49

I heard that the traffic has gone mental around Dun Laoghaire since they implemented the one-way system.

SecondRow · 19/04/2021 13:12

BiddyPop, there's something funny about the leaders' keenness to go for a walk! Albeit a more scenic one.

My parents (under 70) getting first dose this week, really delighted for them.

Thesagacontinues · 19/04/2021 13:39

Fuzzy, the thought of your DDs whining reaching a crescendo made me chuckle. I have an almost 2 year old who shouts when he doesnt know the word for something, and it goes through me.

Im back at work (well at the kitchen table) for the week and am feeling fed up Sad. I think the gloomy weather isnt helping.

HaHaVeryBunny · 19/04/2021 14:39

Hi all you lovely people, hope you're having a good day.
l thought l would share this bit of news with you.

Lidl Ireland has now become the first country in the world to offer free period products, to try and end period poverty in association with Homeless Period Ireland.

Yes, Thesaga, the toddler years are tough. I think communication starts to happen after they turn three and have a few more words. The battle of wills can continue infinitely though, depending on the child! Yes, it's a very gloomy day, for sure. I hope the sun comes back soon; it does lift the spirits.

Wow, HaHa, that's great to hear. Well done, Lidl Ireland. My older DD is involved in several youth groups; one of which has the aim to alleviate period poverty for teenage girls.
eggandonion · 19/04/2021 15:32

It gets expensive, having teenage daughters, so that's good news. My daughter, when she was about 21, was having a few drinks with friends and they all ordered moon cups. She is fine with it, her sister who is older and works in healthcare thinks it's gross.
I am cold. I need bread but I refuse to go and buy one item in a supermarket. Tomorrow I will need more. When I am at work I constantly nip in for things.

HaHaVeryBunny · 19/04/2021 16:15

Your DD is fantastic :)

The newly appointed head of the Department of Health is to get an €80,000 increase on his not insubstantial salary.
FFS they won't give the student nurses what they are owed !!! Angry
It's disgusting.
I'm contacting my local "in government" TDs to object.
Hope some of you Craicnetters will too.

JaneJeffer · 19/04/2021 21:33

the toddler years are tough
I absolutely loved them Sad
Dylan Moran said toddlers are like small drunk people Grin

halfpasteleven · 19/04/2021 21:51

The toddler years are tough
They sure are!
I often marvel at the confidence they have..
if only we could bottle it and sell it ! We would be millionaires!
