The place that I go to in my head (when I am having a smear or something else that I need to do my yoga breathing and zone out for) is sitting cross-legged on the rocks that go straight out into the sea at Spanish Point, when the tide is already well in so water surrounding me (but not massive waves that would wash me off) and facing a fabulous sunset across the water.

In reality, when I am actually down there, I go along the shore from White Strand to the point and do my yoga there on the peaty bog facing the sea just above the rocks and tide (if it's dry enough to not sink into the bogginess).

BloodyInternetFood · 14/04/2021 13:51

A day in Spanish Point would do me good I can tell you. Used to go to one of the hotels there with my gran for an evening drink back when she was well.

eggandonion · 14/04/2021 14:35

It would blow away the cobwebs!⁰

Thesagacontinues · 14/04/2021 14:52

You are all very quick off the mark with your suggestions, thank you!

That will keep me busy for the evening researching all these places Smile

Mayzee · 14/04/2021 15:21

Great suggestions there - Clare is on my to do list this summer if I can escape further than 20km!

SunlessSea · 14/04/2021 15:37

Hi all, haven’t posted here before, but I’ve very much enjoyed all the threads. @FionaMacCool I think you’re in my neck of the woods. You referred to a very nice supermarket in a previous thread which I also frequent 😀

Joolsin · 14/04/2021 15:57

My favourite county other than the one where I live is Donegal. Spectacular scenery, stunning deserted beaches, great accent. Ok it can be a shocker for rain and wind but on a sunny day, there's nowhere more beautiful (in my humble opinion!!)

FionaMacCool · 14/04/2021 16:10

@SunlessSea, are you ?! How lovely to chat to another south-eastern-er.
Yes, tis a lovely supermarket and a big draw whenever I need to travel down to UHW.
We'll have to come up with a sign to recognise fellow posters (or perhaps not, I like the relative anonymity here).

SunlessSea · 14/04/2021 16:17

@FionaMacCool I enjoy the anonymity too, but lovely to know we’re not all complete strangers, and to have chats about familiar things to Ireland. Maybe we should have an Irish equivalent of the mumsnet scarf 😀

Mayzee · 14/04/2021 16:25

@Joolsin agree about Donegal - we had 3 summer holidays there when our kids were small -making the 5 hour trip up to the Gaoth Dobhair area but my was it worth it! The beaches are amazing and we lucked out with the weather usually when we were there.
My kids still look to go back even though there is nothing around the house we stayed in and barely a phone signal let alone wifi or 4G!

mathanxiety · 14/04/2021 18:09

@Carriemac Grin
I have cousins whose names are mangled beyond recognition 'down home'.

Carriemac · 14/04/2021 19:22

@mathanxiety someone from Tipp came to give a talk in my workplace, I have been there for about 20 years. when she left my colleagues were like" what did she call you? is that your name in Irish? '
no, its just how they say it at home :)

you can do a lovely guided boat trip on the river barrow if you are looking for a day out

mathanxiety · 14/04/2021 19:56

Yes, the Barrow is a lovely river. Around the St Mullins/Graigue area you could spend a great day. There are also walking/hiking paths in the Blackstairs.

LadyEloise · 15/04/2021 08:29

A stay at the Cliff house hotel in Ardmore has been on my wish list for years.

TheFourOhFour · 15/04/2021 09:49

I'd like to go to all the islands off the west coast -- both the ones that have some form of boat service, at least seasonally, and the little ones you could just land on if you had your own boat, like some of the small islands in Roaringwater Bay in west Cork. I've only been on the Aran Islands, the Great Blasket, Sherkin and Cape Clear.

I've never yet made it to the Skelligs has anyone here? (I worry that a tendency to seasickness and not being great with heights would make it a miserable experience a friend who took a summer school out there years ago threw up the entire way and felt too bad to make it up the steps once they got there...)

And we're in fantasy territory here, obviously but I've always fantasised about doing something that incurs me major national gratitude and gets me into the chamber at Newgrange for a (magically sunny) solstice. (I think there were well over 30,000 applications for the lottery for the last one...)

LadyEloise · 15/04/2021 10:31

Isn't Roaringwater Bay the most amazing name ?

eggandonion · 15/04/2021 10:44

We stayed in the lighthouse in wicklow head a few years ago, that was amazing.

MissMaudSilver · 15/04/2021 10:56

Hi All, first posting here too. I've spent a few hours catching up. I love Wexford and Waterford, but I'd be happy anywhere at this moment. DH is not a fan of self catering in Ireland but I have managed to talk him into a short trip. I love the idea of a quiet cottage within walking distance of a beach or a lake and a pub/shop. I can't find anything at the moment so I am amusing myself by looking at lighthouses and other beautiful properties on this site www.formergloryy.ie

Thesagacontinues · 15/04/2021 11:19

Considering I rarely get out of my house and talk to people any more, I am loving this thread with people from different areas given suggestions of places I have never heard of.

It is a gorgeous clear day here with blue skies, I hope it holds up til this evening so I can enjoy it after work.

MissMaudSilver · 15/04/2021 11:30

Typo in the email address, it's www.formerglory.ie. eggandonion I was looking at the Wicklow Lighthouse last night but it's booked out to January 2022. Not sure I could cope with a winter storm

TheLongRider · 15/04/2021 11:33

I was on the Skelligs, well Skellig Mhíchael, when I was a kid. It was memorable, we had a beautiful day and the sun shone. No-one was sick on our boat.
Inisbofin is absolutely beautiful and well worth a day trip. I've been on Great Blasket and Sherkin. For Dubs, I highly recommend a trip to Ireland's Eye from Howth to see the puffins nesting. Then get back to the pier and stuff your face on the fresh seafood from the many restaurants

eggandonion · 15/04/2021 18:28

The covid statistics were a good bit better today, I'm scared to be optimistic Hmm

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 15/04/2021 18:31

Thanks be to God (says she, cautiously).

Hopefully there won't be too much of a bounce in two weeks time after the return to school.

MarDhea · 15/04/2021 19:35

I'm kinda amazed there hasn't been a Paddy's day and Easter bounce in cases as well... Maybe most people except the crowds of drunk teenagers that trashed the local park a few weeks back have been sticking to the rules after all.
