Oh found you!! Admittedly not that difficult seeing there was a link in the old thread. I thought you'd all just gone very quite 😆

Thesagacontinues · 08/04/2021 21:52

My dad has cut my mums hair during lockdown - she doesnf like it getting long at all.

I had to give DS a scissors cut before he went back to school too. I watchex youtube vidoes on how to cut boys hair first Blush. He cant stand having a razor cut which would have been much easier.

I've also had to trim my almost 2 year olds fringe. He has long blonde curls and strangers think hes a girl but I just havent been able to bring him for a proper hair cut any where.

I just need my roots to be covered!

riverrunner · 08/04/2021 22:10

Can I ask what is everyone’s approach to getting a hair appointment?

I left it too late during the run up to Christmas relaxation and only got a January 4th appointment, by which time we were back in lockdown. I now have Bellatrix Lestrange’s hair, only badger-y, and with split ends as long as my forearm. I look like her Wanted poster.

sillysmiles · 08/04/2021 23:23

@riverrunner do you have a hairdresser?
I'm planning to txt my hairdresser next week and ask her to let me know eaten she's working again- but she works independently.

Maybe check your salons Facebook page? Message them to let you know when they are taking bookings. They are going to be run off their feet.

sillysmiles · 08/04/2021 23:23

When not eaten..... need an edit function!

JaneJeffer · 09/04/2021 01:14

I see that 10 people in hotel quarantine have tested positive.

Iblinkedandiamold · 09/04/2021 04:32

The guards came to my door at 1am, woke me up and they got the wrong house. Now I cant go back to sleep.
When I answered the door, after asking who was there, I thought my legs were going to go, I thought they about to tell me someone was dead.
I then began to wonder if that really happened and now I am just hungry.
I've only just gotten rid if that sense of dread.
Wouldn't mind but it's a small town. That's what happens when you dont have actual guards in the town. I didnt even know these two.
Good job I am not working, I would be majorly pissed off then.

halfpasteleven · 09/04/2021 05:34

You must have got an awful fright @Iblinkedandiamold. I know I would have.
Maybe have some tea and toast then go back to bed.. it would take away the hunger and tea is soothing.
DD just had a bottle and is asleep but I'm wide awake now.. the dawn chorus hasn't even started yet! Feels like the middle of the night!

@riverrunner and anyone else who's having issues with their roots, the Loreal Retouch root sprays are good but they can be drying, so l would spray it in when your is towel dry, oh and put something around your neck too it, tends to go everywhere.

Apileofballyhoo · 09/04/2021 08:34

That's awful blinked. Hope you got some sleep and you're asleep now!

No, it's an awful feeling glimpsing uniforms through your front door. It does happen in the city too, though on one of our first nights in this house the guards showed up when DH and DS had gone to bed and I was sitting having buyer's remorse and drinking among the boxes. And they were on full alert, as they'd apparently been called out to a noisy domestic altercation by neighbours and were anticipating trouble, rather than one very dusty woman drinking hot port out of a Sports Direct mug only they'd been called out to number 3 Road Name, and we're Number 3, Terrace Name, Road Name. (Unfortunately, we live on a very long, old road where names, numbers and terrace names and numbers are insanely jumbled up.)

Sorry, didn't see replies! Not really, @sillysmiles -- I only arrived back in Ireland after na blianta in early 2020, and only had my hair done once, in a big city-centre chain, the whole year!

@HaHaVeryBunny, I've been using a root spray (not sure which brand) but have kind of given up on it lately, because my 'roots' are so long. I've been wearing a hat a lot, but we're getting past that part of the year...

Iblinkedandiamold · 09/04/2021 09:27

Thanks for the replies, got a few hours of sleep. My salon sent out a text and an email to say that they have a waiting list. I added myself to it.
I was lucky that I got my hair done just before Christmas. I made the appointment in October though.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 09/04/2021 09:31

That's good, iblinked, what a shock to get.

My salon didn't have a list last time. They took bookings when they opened up.

It was massively busy though, so I'm thinking of letting the crowds go first.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 09/04/2021 10:19

Oh god I'd die if the Garda knocked my door at that time, I'm not surprised you couldn't get back to sleep @Iblinkedandiamold I hope they were suitably apologetic!

I have my name on the "list" at the salon I go to. I was ar an liathróid this time round and messaged them as soon as lockdown was announced. Last year by the time I contacted them there was a huge wait! I wish we had an actual roadmap with dates, I think we'd all cope better if we had more certainty about when things will happen.

Apileofballyhoo · 09/04/2021 10:38

Glad you got some sleep, blinked.

Can I ask you all about spuds? I was buying Slaney Farms golden wonders all winter but supervalu don't seem to have them at the moment, or supervalu own brand either (though the last bag of them were brutal). I've tried roosters and Maris pipers (both Slaney farms) and I was surprised that they both turned out to have black bits after cooking - I'm used to golden wonders misbehaving themselves but you can usually see the bad bits before cooking.

I've got aldi, supervalu, lidl, dunnes and Tesco. Any good spuds?

TheLongRider · 09/04/2021 10:52

I think the black bits are where the spud is developing eyes. It's spud planting time so any spuds you have would much rather be in the soil growing baby spuds rather than in your mash!

TheLongRider · 09/04/2021 10:59

If you do have any spuds with eyes, you can grow your own quite successfully in a bag or deep plant pot.

In Senior Infants DD got a potato and she decorated it with stick on eyes and pipe cleaners. We forgot about for a few weeks then I noticed it had sprouted shoots! I took the decorations off, planted it in a large pot and we got about 2kg of new potatoes from it in the Autumn.

Unlocking Ireland - thread uimhir a seacht!
Iblinkedandiamold · 09/04/2021 11:06

I never thought of planting a potato. I always just cut them off or throw away the potatoes if they are too old.
I dont eat a lot of spuds anymore but I always buy roosters. Sometimes whites when tesco sells them for 49 cent but I prefer Roosters.

Emeraldshamrock · 09/04/2021 11:21

Can I ask you all about spuds? I just heard Keith lemon say "potatoes" in my head. Grin Our local butcher sells nice potatoes.
blinked You must have got a terrible fright then relief. I was feeding DD one night at 3am I saw them go into my neighbours with bad news their DS died I'll never forget her screams. Sad

M0rT · 09/04/2021 11:28

@riverrunner do you know anyone whose hair you like? You could ask them where they get it done and try get on a list.
My cousin is a hairdresser and does my hair at home so I'm no use to you.
I am on what was a 5 month waiting list in September for a specialist curly hairdresser...I'm afraid to ask how long it is now!
@Iblinkedandiamold that is horrible! I think my legs would go to see Guards at the door at that time. Would be sure there had been an accident.
I meant to say to you yesterday how impressed I am with all your home/garden improvement work. I have little dexterity and no strength so it's amazing to see someone using YouTube etc to do all these tasks!

Apileofballyhoo · 09/04/2021 11:35

The roosters are nicer than the whites all right. I know the spuds are getting old this time of year but sometimes I hit on someplace or brand that are better, I don't know if it's better storage or they were dug later or some other factor!

The roosters were showing signs of sprouting all right, long. I've grown potatoes before but none of us are mad on new potatoes. I like queens when they've been out for a few weeks and are floury.

DH won't grow any main crop types either because of having to spray for blight - thinks it's too much of a pain. Our garden in tiny in any case, so it would be pots and watering and so on. We could get an allotment but DH thinks he has too much on to take one on this year, and it's all organic there so he doesn't think we'd be allowed spray for blight even with the copper stuff. I do worry about the amount of residual pesticides in potatoes but any organic ones are usually white wet types and we don't like them. I did get organic roosters in Aldi last year or maybe the year before, which were grand. I liked the novelty of eating the skin. They were Scottish though.

Can I ask where the curly hair specialist is, @M0rT?

I can’t think of anyone’s hair — I’m a hermit living on a building site. The only people I see regularly are the builders, and they all have buzz cuts?!

M0rT · 09/04/2021 11:51

@riverrunner the waiting list I'm on is for a woman in Derry. It's called the hair studio curl bar a friend recommended it to me.
There is one in Dublin city centre that another friend went to and they did a great job but waiting list is even longer!

TheLongRider · 09/04/2021 12:49

@Apileofballyhoo
I grow spuds and I don't spray for blight neither does my Dad in his South Dublin back garden. I grow Cara and Maris Piper. Dad grows the blight resistant Sarpo Mira variety. They are very like a Rooster in colour and flavour. These are all main crop varieties.
