The paramilitaries are basically drug/organised crime gangs nowadays.

Sarahtrue11 · 08/04/2021 14:55

@SionnachRua "anyone who spouts off is an idiot filter". So are you saying that if anyone disagrees with the teacher's unions, they are an idiot? Even though, right now the teacher's unions are disagreeing with risk based population health assessments.

I would actually think that the teacher's unions who are arguing with population health experts and scientists are being idiots.

Imagine saying, "We should get the vaccination before the elderly! Even though the school term is nearly finished anyway", now that is supreme arrogance and idiocy.

sillysmiles · 08/04/2021 14:59

@Sarahtrue11but is it not the government changing the goal posts based on logistical failures to date and not the advise of nphet to change the vaccine order.

Not. Engaging. With. You.

Puppalicious · 08/04/2021 15:51

My family members who are teachers disagree with the Irish teachers unions too. Are they idiots? Or the many Irish teachers who disagree with their unions?
I think what the Beacon and Combe scandals show is that any system that isn’t absolutely clear and simple is more open to abuse. Going by age is simple and evidence based. I mentioned all those professions at more risk than teachers but no one had said whether they should be prioritised as well? You can add delivery drivers, water and electricity plant workers, meat workers, food distributors....all the unseen who have been working throughout this pandemic.

Nobody is saying that @Sarahtrue11. This is a quote from the INTO:

"It is essential that teachers and all key workers should continue to be prioritised once vulnerable people and the elderly are vaccinated in order to ensure that schools and essential services remain open."

No issue with actual professionals criticising the union. God knows it's warranted, I do plenty of it myself. Also no issue with non-teachers criticising the union. Again, it's quite often warranted (though a lot of the time they'd be better off criticising the Govt for a lot of the issues).

However, I don't waste my time on clowns with an axe to grind and who:
A) know nothing about modern teaching
B) don't try to inform themselves

And that's all I have to say on the matter.

JaneJeffer · 08/04/2021 16:20

clowns with an axe to grind Grin
I have no problem with people who are dealing with hundreds of other people or who have to work close to others getting vaccinated first. However it's much easier to do it on an age basis.

Apileofballyhoo · 08/04/2021 17:19

I hate teacher bashing. Easy target. Also feel the unions are being misrepresented. Wouldn't fancy being in a smallish room with 30 others myself to be quite honest, and SNA assistants do indeed have to get up closer, as do teachers of little children who often can't quite manage opening their lunches or typing their laces and so on. I'm hoping the going by age will vaccinate the most vulnerable people first, but I'm not quite sure what the situation is for those with underlying conditions.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 08/04/2021 17:24

Well one thing's for sure, it wouldn't matter what system we had in place for administering vaccines - age, job, health needs etc - what happened at the Coombe, the Beacon and god knows where else would still have happened. 100%. Those people would still have felt entitled and not in the least bit sorry about it. As much as I love being Irish and living here the cronyism is an awful stain and we'll never be clean of it.

My understanding was that there was a clear system and they still ignored it for their personal benefit.

LadyEloise · 08/04/2021 17:37

Don't forget the Mater too.

Puppalicious · 08/04/2021 18:09

@Apileofballyhoo, it goes to age based after those aged 18-65 with vulnerabilities www2.hse.ie/screening-and-vaccinations/covid-19-vaccine/rollout/rollout.html

FinallyFluid · 08/04/2021 18:36

Christ the arrogance and snobbery in your post. So, you have called people clowns and idiots now. That is definitely the last time that I engage with you. Other people are able to have conversation with people on here, without calling them clowns and idiots.

How do you know that I haven't been a teacher in the recent past? I haven't said what my profession is, or the professions that I used to work in. You don't know the profession of anyone on here.

Plenty of teachers are also upset about what the Unions have said.

Sarahtrue11 · 08/04/2021 18:38

@Puppalicious

"Going by age is simple and evidence based"

Absolutely.

JaneJeffer · 08/04/2021 18:42

Love Foil, Arms & Hog @FinallyFluid Grin

Apileofballyhoo · 08/04/2021 18:46

Thanks Puppa - so once the over 65s are done? I seem to know an amazing amount of people with different chronic health conditions.

Emeraldshamrock · 08/04/2021 19:50

The numbers are staying reasonably low getting my hopes up.
Selfishly I want my hair done. Grin

SionnachRua · 08/04/2021 20:03

I'm with you on wanting the hair done, the fecking weight of it now! And the split ends are driving me mad.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 08/04/2021 20:32

I got older DD to give me a trim last week, just an inch off the ends. My hair grows out as well as down; it was driving me daft. It's bearable again. Second time she's been my hairdresser. Well worth the 20e I gave her :)

SionnachRua · 08/04/2021 20:41

I don't know if I'm desperate/brave enough yet to give DH the scissors Grin

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 08/04/2021 20:42

It was a brave move borne out of desperation, I tell you :)

halfpasteleven · 08/04/2021 21:25

@FinallyFluid they're hilarious! I love the mother and son sketches they do..so Irish and so funny

LizzieAnt · 08/04/2021 21:45

I love Foil, Arms and Hog too Grin
Thanks FinallyFluid.
