Unlinked because I can't remember how to do it, and can't find Help thing.

Well after seeing the big funeral on line this evening I don't think it'll ever be under control. Hundreds of people walking down the street in the video I saw.
I was just starting to see a glimmer of hope too.

JaneJeffer · 27/01/2021 19:35

not even appearance-wise what? Stephen looks like a conehead!

JaneJeffer · 27/01/2021 19:36

Oh I've just seen your correction @LifeInAHamsterWheel. Phew, I was worried about you there for a minute Grin

123MothergotafleA · 27/01/2021 22:57

I hope the Gardai have issued the appropriate fines etc to the fools attending the funeral. Who in their right mind doesnt know what's at stake?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 28/01/2021 14:03

Outrageous about that funeral, the priest and undertakers should have refused to carry out the funeral until it was just the permitted numbers attending (in my opinion, probably easier said than done)

HaHaVeryBunny · 28/01/2021 17:25

The government need to set out a timetable, not a target for vaccine.

The over 70s

eggandonion · 28/01/2021 19:10

Maybe things will become clearer soon about what vaccine is available when.
There are still many health care workers not vaccinated, outside the hospital system. Teachers, sna, childcare staff, supermarkets all need to feel safe. It's complicated! Difficult to prioritise.

Did anyone see the older Englishman being interviewed at Dublin airport on the 6 One News.
When asked about his travel plans, he replied that he was flying from Portugal and the only way to get to the UK ( mainland - not NI ) was via Ireland.
FFS 🙄
So the UK won't allow flights from Portugal but we will. Shock

halfpasteleven · 28/01/2021 21:12

@LadyEloise I heard Stephen Donnelly being interviewed about the flights from Portugal in Claire Byrne and he had no straight answer re why Ireland will let the flights in any the uk will not..
just changed the subject and waffled on...
Painful to listen to

No didn't see that.

I did read about a man stopped going to Dublin airport who had no insurance or driving licence. Though I'm starting to think I dreamed it as I can't find it anywhere now.

First sign of my decline into madness, just call me Jack Torrence.

CherryValanc · 29/01/2021 09:45

(He was going to the airport to go on holiday - meant to add that!)

Iblinkedandiamold · 29/01/2021 12:16

Really enjoyed my first week of Irish lessons. Monday was the lesson and Thursday was just an informal meeting and chat.
I find I can understand a lot more than I speak so it's more about getting the confidence up again.
It was great though, almost feels like I was out chatting to people again. Wish they'd do something at the weekends though. They are long and lonely for me.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 29/01/2021 14:22

That's great to hear Iblinkedandiamold. Maith thú!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/01/2021 15:34

Tá sé sin go hiontach @Iblinkedandiamold 👍🏻

I was chatting with my MIL earlier and she's so anxious about the vaccine after hearing that it's not suitable for people over 65 (her and FIL are late 70s) It's so disappointing I was trying to keep her spirits up but she's very much a stickler for the rules and hearing "experts" say this has really shaken her. They've been pinning all their hopes on the vaccine. We've not seen them in a full year now. I wish there was more clarity on this Sad

eggandonion · 29/01/2021 16:08

That's only one vaccine though, and drug companies tend not to run tests on minors pregnant women or older people. The number of elders vaccinated in the uk can be studied now.
I heard a Dunnes worker discussing vaccine results with a customer earlier, so many opinions!

I was out with my grandmother for a walk today ( I’m her cater so I see her everyday still) and we bumped into a friend of hers who was warning her not to get the vaccine after reading those reports. I was raging! Couldn’t find an excuse to get away from the poor woman either she said she’s not seen another soul in a week so I felt horrible trying to shut her up. It took me ages to convince my grandma to get the vaccine in the first place.

Are they in Ireland? It has only just been approved in the EU and isn't supplied to Ireland yet.

As far as I'm aware this query about effectiveness in the over 65s is only in the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. The query has arisen due to the trail groups not including the over 65s - one of the groups didn't anyway where they gave a half dose at first and full dose at second.

Your in-laws (if in Ireland) are likely to get the Pfizer vaccine. Mind you if they are in the UK and get the Oxford vaccine it looks like it is suited to the method the vaccine rollout is being done there - as the Oxford vaccine shows more efficacy where the two doses are further apart
(Two standard doses given less than six weeks apart efficacy rate is 53.4%. The two doses given more than six weeks apart was 65.4% -that's all age groups I think)

I haven't read that much about it - outside of news reports that is, no science papers or reports anyway. I read a summary of what The Lancet reported on it and that's it.

It wouldn't be this, would it? He was at Dublin Port but a lot of other details match up.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/01/2021 19:15

Yes we're in Ireland @CherryValanc and I do understand what you're saying but it's being reported in the news (about it not being suitable for those over 65) and my MIL is taking that as gospel and panicking about it now.

eggandonion · 29/01/2021 20:38

I think the eu medical register thing, also headed by an Irish woman, have said it's ok for all ages. Except I know that mils are more likely to believe the woman who is married to the oil delivery man, my mil would!

But THE GERMANS said it @eggandonion and they're all very smart people Grin

eggandonion · 29/01/2021 22:42

My mil wouldn't believe them because they are foreigners. Nor would she believe people from the free state. She would believe Stephen Nolan on Radio Ulster.
I'm not even attempting to follow the eu, northern Ireland, astra zeneca protocol shenanigans.

Nor me - I've just been reading the sciencey things about the vaccines.

Aa far as I can make up a pharmaceutical company messed up and is unable to fulfil the volume of stock they were contracted to.

Made the mistake of reading a few threads on here about it. Fecking hell. The vindictive bitterness is so breathtaking, I've concluded the EU are actually planning on killing newborns, rather than trying to secure a stock of vaccines as per a contact.
