I think the stay in your own county thing is good and bad. I went for a walk today 20mins drive my house. I never realised the place I went to was just over the border into another county. Yet I could drive an hour to go for a walk in my own county.
I think a radius should've been brought in instead.
Then again maybe I'm only saying that as where I live I'm no more than 30mins away from another co if that makes sense.
Basically I'm quite close to 3 others counties.

Lazysundayafternoons · 18/10/2020 21:34

Ds school have also set the last few classes up on Google classroom again, and we are one of the counties with the lowest growth rate at the minute.

Zeebeezee · 18/10/2020 23:04

The lockdowns or levels will last over the Christmas period.

Why would they open up again for Christmas just to let the hordes out shopping and visiting and so on. But I suspect that is the plan.

Anyway just tell your kids that Santy/Santa and his helpers have Coronoavirus and they may not be able to deliver all the goodies.

Life lesson. They will survive.

halfpasteleven · 19/10/2020 12:21

@Zeebeezee
That's harsh- I'll be telling my children that santy doesn't get the virus and he will still visit on Christmas Eve.

anomletteandaglassofwine · 19/10/2020 16:28

RTÉ are saying level 5 for 6 weeks. I wasn't expecting that, I thought level 4. God, it feels grim, at least the last time we had good weather and bright evenings.

Have they announced it? I thought it was later, I know virgin have been speculating re levels, had to turn off ireland am as they were really panicking. Is there much difference in level 4 and 5? I need to find that chart they released a while back.
MotherForkinShirtBalls · 19/10/2020 16:34

A well briefed sounding piece on the IT website too, anomletteandaglassofwine. I was talking to a reasonably high up civil servant yesterday who was expecting a cobbled together level 4 minus so I was really shocked to see it. Sad And a bloody status yellow rain warning to cap it off.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 19/10/2020 16:35

Cabinet meeting now, Lipz, announcement due at 9pm, according to the IT. Covid-19 restrictions: Government prepares move to Level 5 for six weeks (via @IrishTimes) www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/covid-19-restrictions-government-prepares-move-to-level-5-for-six-weeks-1.4384986

Joolsin · 19/10/2020 16:42

Bloody hell, I'm so fed up with it now. I've been pretty chipper all along so far, not a natural worrier so just getting on with whatever level/restrictions and being "good". Now I've got the major hump.

Lipz · 19/10/2020 16:57

Thanks for that 👍

TheKeatingFive · 19/10/2020 17:13

They better hope this works. 6 weeks to save Christmas, I see how that will motivate (some).

After that, compliance is shot. If they don’t let people travel freely at Christmas they’ll just do it anyway.

Also the HSE better pull their finger out, I’m livid at how little they’ve done to increase capacity. Not to mention the government and track and trace.

Last chance saloon

Radyward · 19/10/2020 17:58

Total last chance here- this is the highest level and if that doesnt work ( which what we are dealing with is an air borne virus FGS) that's it. Chatted to a hair dresser today
Said she Is tempted to stay open but will close. If same scenario in Dec, there will be business owners opening left right and centre- Wanting to make a living and feed their families FGS . Forcing closures ( but disguised as asking people to close do the right thing blah blah is all to stop insurance payouts -it is an absolute joke) who do NPHet think pay their salarys??? Its such a blow to so many people who have spent big to reopen. Just terrible.police state now

anomletteandaglassofwine · 19/10/2020 18:12

@Radyward if people had followed the level 3 guidelines to the letter we wouldn't be here now. The were flouted right, left and centre and here we are with record high levels of cases.

The very fact that we're relying on people to do the right thing shows you we're as far from a police state as you can get

TheKeatingFive · 19/10/2020 18:17

if people had followed the level 3 guidelines to the letter we wouldn't be here now.

They didn’t enforce anything. They changed up the rules far too frequently. The highest powers in the land didn’t follow it either.

I have no one to blame but the government.

Also, if our health service functioned properly, we wouldn’t be in such dire straights.

Blaming the people is letting them off the hook for their incompetence.

Radyward · 19/10/2020 18:19

People abide for the most part. They really did. It really is insurmountable battling a virus. It's completely unstoppable and a pipe dream to try and eradicate it. Whatever happened to flattening the curve!! People did their bit the last 8 months. Govt is on v thin ice. Chatting to.people today- one girl said I know 2 people who had it that are fine !!
. Its everywhere and people are not going for testing.
Esp the self employed I'd imagine. Too scared

Radyward · 19/10/2020 18:20

So this all in this together BS Less and less people are on that hymn sheet .

7Days · 19/10/2020 18:21

I disagree Keating.
The people are to blame also, everyone had their own decisions to make. Some choose badly, regardless of what anyone else did, Golf Dinner or not.

TheKeatingFive · 19/10/2020 18:24

The people are to blame also

A tiny number behaved badly. But where were the guards when the raves and the parties happened? Apparently not able to break them up. Wtf not?

Most people breaking the ‘rules’ were just visiting family.

It’s a virus, it spreads, we’re humans, we spend time with each other. It’s ridiculous to expect anything else.

LadyEloise · 19/10/2020 18:26

I'm not blaming the government.
We all had choices to make.
Some made good ones.
Others didn't give a sh*t Sad

LizzieAnt · 19/10/2020 18:53

A tiny number behaved badly

I disagree, I think lots of people haven't been careful enough.
Just wearing a mask and washing your hands isn't enough.

LizzieAnt · 19/10/2020 18:56

I agree the test and trace system needs to be working better than it is though. It's just way too slow.

thelegohooverer · 19/10/2020 19:08

I’m disgusted at the speculation on RTÉ. Nothing has been announced and they’re only fear mongering. Absolute disgrace for a national broadcaster.

Radyward · 19/10/2020 19:16

We are told repeatedly to soc
Distance and wash hands- "it's that simple "apparently
Joe public has given up so much
Their families facing unemployment now due to bad governance. The mantra from the govt do what ye are told and finger wagging doesnt cut it any longer .
The govt. Is all about blaming the public and not looking at themselves and their mismanagement!!!
WHO( tell me something we didnt know )are saying now lockdowns dont work!
Dec will come then Jan feb flu season.omg I'm so sad for Dublin city centre .Poverty I hope will not be out of control by then it's just terrible

Lazysundayafternoons · 19/10/2020 19:29

@thelegohooverer they are at it all the time. I have the app on my phone and they keep sending me 'breaking news' notifications - most of the time it is only speculation and not facts Angry

anomletteandaglassofwine · 19/10/2020 19:29

I just can't see how this is the governments fault. The government can't stop transmission, only people staying away from each other can do that.

@TheKeatingFive if it was only a tiny number behaving badly we wouldn't be at this point, it was a sizeable minority, and where I live it wasn't the much maligned youth it was middle aged and older who were congregating. Every weekend the guards had to attend the local pub who were doing take away, to disperse the crowd. Likewise a restaurant who consistently had more than 15 diners seated outside who all sat closer together the more wine was consumed, and as for the food market every weekend, it was bedlam, no social distancing whatsoever.

And we've all heard about the communions/confirmations/ bouncy castles on the green scenarios. And let's not forget all of he GAA celebrations which caused umpteen outbreaks

Did you read the article in the IT about the person who didn't quarantine and caused 56 infections (and many of those didn't follow the rules either)

How is any of that the governments fault? It has been made abundantly clear what we need to do to get the numbers down but people just won't do it.
