I'm in NI but that is the rules here. Also a teacher. At the beginning we were told we were keyworkers and therefore could have a test of someone in our household or a close contact of ours tested positive and that if our test was negative we could come back to work. Now the guidance has been changed again and we have been told everyone who is a close contact must stay off for 14 days regardless of negative test. We have several staff off after receiving close contact notifications on their phone and principal has clarified with the public health agency who had confirmed the 14 day isolation period must be completed before they can return to work.
Over 1000 cases again today..
I nipped into tesco quickly to get some bribes to attempt toilet training ds 2.5 since we are pretty much in lockdown for the next 2 weeks and the queues were mad. Shelves empty and lots of people seemingly stockpiling again 🙈

Get all the party leaders at the meeting with NPHET- all opposition leaders including Mary Lou- work together for the good of the people. It's a national emergency-be states people not politicians for once.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 17/10/2020 17:23

That article raises many good points @TheKeatingFive. We need some 'joined-up thinking' to get through this crisis.

Philip Nolan's response to Jack Lamberts article is also worth reading

My neighbours family have all tested positive, but one. The negative member, who should be restricting movements came under huge pressure from their employer to get back to work in a customer facing retail role. And the construction company who employ the oldest son saw no reason at all for him being off work while he was awaiting his results because he wasn’t actually unwell.
When you hear stories like that, it’s hard to see how we can ever get through this.

I get so irritated with the “let the vulnerable shield” posts that keep cropping up on MN because the vulnerable are doing what they can.

If everyone else would do their bit at level 2, I don’t think we’d need to go to level 3,4 or 5. And moving up levels won’t make the slightest bit of difference to those that wouldn’t pull together at the lower levels.

Neither of those employers were small businesses.

Quarterback11 · 17/10/2020 22:24

@LifeInAHamsterWheel As a PP said, you daughter need to isolate for 14 days regardless of a test, if she is a close contact.

If she develops any symptoms or tests positive, the rest of her household needs to isolate too.

Yes, there's a lot of people self isolating at present! Thankfully lots of close contacts don't actually get it but still need to isolate as if they did get it, they would be contagious before they have symptoms.

Quarterback11 · 17/10/2020 22:29

*your daughter needs to

321mamma · 17/10/2020 22:35

House 3 doors up from me had an indoor playdate with 4 kids from dc's class, called for my dc obviously she didn't join.... Its fecking ridiculous. Some people just won't follow the rules ...

thelegohooverer · 17/10/2020 22:52

My neighbours are making plans to leave sweets out for the dc. I’m not keen (not least thinking about some of the older ones thinking it’s hilarious to cough on them or worse). I’d just about convinced mine that we would be having a great time in our back garden and now they’ll feel really badly done by if they don’t go out.

Juvernia · 17/10/2020 23:08

Years ago when there was chickenpox doing the rounds at Halloween going trick or treating wasn't a runner so we put on our coats and scarves and had a winter 'midnight' barbecue, but at 10 pm instead. We could see the fireworks going off nearby and told spooky stories and it was really enjoyable.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 17/10/2020 23:11

@Quarterback11 it's not my daughter, it's my boss' daughter. But I'm not sure that he knows she'll need to isolate for 2 weeks even if negative. I'll tell him on Monday 👍🏻

Andi2020 · 17/10/2020 23:18

My teenager friend was having a house party tonight for her 17th and of course I was the only bad mum who wouldn't allow my dd go. I am so furious we live in a border county so we would of had to go past guards there is no way I would let any party take place at 17 they should have more sense.
I know they are missing out but if someone in their family gets covid19 they could be missing a person rather than a party.
My dd is huffing since about 2pm

thelegohooverer · 17/10/2020 23:50

@Andi2020 There should be bad mum medals. 🏅

Andi2020 · 17/10/2020 23:56

@thelegohooverer I get gold medal every day.
I can't believe 17 year old girls would be so immature
My dd was going to walk 12 miles to get there because me or Dh would not take her.
I had,to threaten I would report the party to stop her going

Lazysundayafternoons · 18/10/2020 07:52

There are too many people avoiding the rules that are already in place.

Another one to add to the couple already mentioned is the 'wfh unless absolutely necessary'.

I have been WFH since March. There are about 10 back in from our department since July. (Large company, lots of different departments, I'd say at least 150 back in the office across all departments).

Now the 10 from our department, I can 100% say it's not necessary for them to be in the office, but they have been told to continue going to the office.

10 people might not seem like a lot of people, but that's 10 people in one department in one company. How many other people across the country are still going to the office when not absolutely necessary? - potentially crossing others on their travel to work, using the same doors, kitchen and bathroom facilities as others.

My brothers company are the same and the company he works for are nationwide - so many extra people going out to work every day when they could easily WFH.

Iblinkedandiamold · 18/10/2020 10:21

I've noticed less traffic on the roads since Dublin went into L.3 lockdown. I dont live near Dublin but on a Thursday and Friday evening it used to be mental trying to battle through traffic to get home from work.
I think when Dublin went into L.3 it shocked people and people were less likely to go away for the weekend.
Hens and stags have also stop coming.

ClinkeyMonkey · 18/10/2020 10:29

I'm really fed up with people. Someone posted on our local community Facebook page last night that they could hear music and possibly the noise of a generator coming from a nearby industrial estate. They were wondering if it was a 'disco' or something similar. Loads of people piled on to ask whereabouts and saying they might head down there with a bottle or a few tins. Unbelievable. One person commented saying they hoped this was a joke, given the current Covid restrictions, and was rounded on for not allowing people - specifically young 'uns - to have a bit of fun.

To be honest the conversation petered out shortly after that as a couple of people said they had noticed a few teenagers sitting having a takeaway in a car with music pumping out (which in itself is likely breaking the rules if they are from different households) so it was probably that and not a 'disco'. But Christ Almighty, the attitudes. Let people have a bit of fun. Poor things need an outlet etc etc. I just despair. It's no wonder we've got the some of the highest figures per head of population.

And a woman in front of me in the local Spar last night spent an extra couple of minutes at the checkout espousing her theory about how it was all a big conspiracy and designed to enforce social control. Of course, she had no mask on. Maybe she is exempt. I don't know. But if she is, she needs to get her shopping, pay for it and get the hell out, without all the unnecessary and, frankly, offensive, chinwagging.

That's me done nowGrin

Iblinkedandiamold · 18/10/2020 10:38

I dont buy the whole "young ones need to let off steam" there will be plenty of years for them to have parties.

Also conspiracy theorists, why do the government want to control us? They want to force us to do what exactly?

hopeishere · 18/10/2020 12:00

I'm not a conspiracy theorist but I don't think the idea would be that they wasn't us to do anything more that we would stop questioning what is being done allowing the government to impose greater resin our lives but to what end I'm not sure! I guess as from another thread that CT are concerned all sorts of civil libertines - eg the right to gather / meet are being restricted and people are going along with it?!

Iblinkedandiamold · 18/10/2020 15:18

Yeah hopeishere maybe. I'm antisocial so I dont care about gatherings. Grin
I am missing the park runs and the races. Used to be a great atmosphere.
Anyway we'll see what tomorrow brings with the announcement.

Radyward · 18/10/2020 16:01

People need to mind their own business end of. Why is my business anyones reason to comment on??
I hate how society has become. Twitchy curtains brigade and judgey of everyone
Just butt out and do your own thing .
I see such a sea change in behaviour now this weekend pre more restrictions- . Was in a massive tesco today in kildare .
Thought it would be crazy with panic buyers. No.no queue at all. Cafes packed doing outside dining-was delighted for them to be busy!!
Saw a sign up hiring waiters too. Fire pits going etc etc outside .
Just to reiterate what I do is absolutely no ones business why should it be???
Twitter et al if you aren't on same hymn sheet -You are mocked!! Differing opinions prompt debate. This deadly pandemic isint so deadly after all imagine that 10% of icu admissions prove fatal now as opposed to over 80%last march.
It's just crazy social media now- the mammys in our school who dont work and hang around in gangs chatting are the very ones calling for them to be closed. I dont care if my kids are the only 3 waltzing into school on level 5 ,they are getting an education.

Iblinkedandiamold · 18/10/2020 17:53

I really dont think they will do a blanket closure of schools. They might look at it county by county. They may give an extra week at midterm at the most. Who knows, not point worrying until tomorrow I suppose

Readandwalk · 18/10/2020 18:40

Why are they waiting until tomorrow? It's hard to know about schools. A quick discussion with my 5th years and they all said they'd stay at home if country went to level 5.

Boscoforever · 18/10/2020 18:57

I'm in NI and there is some school work being done online, google classes etc this week coming.
I'm also a nurse and our hospital doesn't have too much Covid at the minute luckily, just hoping our unit can stay open, as patients need to be treated.
I'm dying to see my friends, but sticking to 'the rules', hate busy bodies too.
Want to scream at folks I know who were cramming in their socialising the last few days, grow up! But what can you do? Human nature.

Radyward · 18/10/2020 20:21

33 in icu - it's the beds taken up by people ie the other 260 others that's putting serious strain on already full hosps at this time of year. It really is the failings of proper home care for our elderly that's showing up here. What relative is going to send their parent ready for discharge from an acute hospital to a nursing home where they wont see them for weeks and a high chance of covid . The total dependence on NH by the HSE taking our elderly into care who didn't have enough support at home to be looked after or too unfit to come home to family physically is now really rearing its head. That really is the crux. Can u blame any family refusing NH care nowadays? They need time to sort their houses plus carers to look after family members. I can see it in the all ireland ads for homecare agency's doing the rounds . Getting people discharged to proper care at home is the answer ( I feel !!)
