So @buckeejit there’s 4 different households mixing in your house?

buckeejit · 11/01/2021 13:55

Yes, 4 households throughout the week, 2-3 at once. I'm in NI & just praying that the other households are sticking to rules.

I so wish our school would have recorded lessons-a bit of normality would be great. Starting earlier than usual would be great for some people but it's a bit crap to do it without even consulting with parents or giving decent notice. Ds teacher records a message showing an empty classroom. They think there is a safeguarding risk showing the teachers face!

Lipz · 11/01/2021 15:42

Well that was a total fuck up. We had contact from some other teachers during the live lessons, one teacher messaged at 2pm to be on live at 2.15pm. We definitely need more notice than that. Some other teachers haven't been in contact at all. During one live lesson a teacher told dd to mute her mike as we were disturbing her class... Really.... Now one school is asking for full uniform tomorrow. Each teacher has a different view on the privacy that some mention, some are fine with students and them been on screen, some want muted Mike's, some muted camera, there's so many different rules for all the schools here that I've had to do up an a3 page for each child, the subjects and what each is allowed to show and not show. Is there a way to put a different background on teams, the way you can in zoom? That way I can put them in the bedrooms and the teachers won't know.

Radyward · 11/01/2021 17:00

It sounds like a complete nightmare
We are just returning work on line TH

thelegohooverer · 11/01/2021 17:19

@Lipz that sounds chaotic.

Ours are only primary and it was fairly well managed. We just had a pre recorded video, list of assignments and explanations on seesaw, and monitored chats for the dc to interact and ask questions.
I felt that they’ve learned a lot, and calmed down since the last round.
I think mine would be a bit more diligent if they had to be in front of a camera and thought their teacher could see them Grin but they got a few things done and it wasn’t a massive battle.

Smurf123 · 11/01/2021 17:41

@Lipz tell all the teachers you don't feel comfortable having children on the camera therefore they will all be joined in without video on... Then let them work away in their bedrooms.
We have done zoom calls as a staff of teachers last lockdown and after the first couple we soon learnt we all had to keep our mics turned off unless we were actually speaking. There's just too much background noise otherwise so I wouldn't take that one too personally.
We are still full time school here atm but if we do end up going to blended learning/ bubble isolating I'm assuming it will be pre recorded videos but my kids are 5-6 and non verbal mostly so I think that would suit their needs better than live videos

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 11/01/2021 18:16

Lipz, what a nightmare.

Why the rule about wearing a uniform?!?

Lipz · 11/01/2021 19:40

The last time we did teams it was similar, there was enough complaints to change it to pre recorded and sending assignments. That worked for us as we weren't sitting there all day waiting for the teachers to contact us.

This time though the parents seem happy Hmm anyone I've contacted they just seem fed up and are leaving the kids to it.

I contacted the schools but no reply. It just seems silly sitting there waiting for the teachers. I thought maybe they were having a settling in but a few of the teachers have given the time table for the week and some are saying they'll let them know each day the live lessons for that day. Even if they let them know for the next day it would work better.

There was supposed to be blended learning but so far they're all doing live, those that have gotten back to me.

It's noisy here, 5 teens. My youngest who's disabled, I had to do her lot upstairs in my bedroom as it's all singing and dancing and noisy. She was getting videos sent for remote learning but with the school closed completely the parents of the rest of the kids want live lessons. It's not as long as regular classes but it's going to be between 9am and 10am every morning, when everyone is on.

The uniform... Jesus that one has me baffled, not sure what they're at with that one, it won't be happening.

The kids were saying that the teachers were telling them that they had to have Mike's and cameras on, there was a few who didn't, but they wouldn't start until they were on. I wasn't sure what is 'allowed'. I don't know why they are insisting as there was lots of messing going on in some of the classes.

buckeejit · 11/01/2021 19:56

@Lipz I think you should ask the teachers to prioritise what's essential to complete. I'm trying to do 3 primary homeschoolers here & it's bloody hard.

Do what you can & don't let it cause you any more additional stress than necessary

LizzieAnt · 11/01/2021 21:17

I think the uniform thing is probably an attempt to give the student a sense of school, routine, work etc.

I have a DS who was a regular school refuser so we tried to work with him at home temporarily. I remember one of the recommendations NEPS made was to get him into uniform every day even if he was studying at home.

He had a school phobia so that obviously didn't work Grin.

Good luck @Lipz and everyone. We're starting tomorrow, hoping for the best.

eggandonion · 12/01/2021 10:50

I can see that tracksuits might work, but I always chucked my uniform on the floor when I got home.
My kids would have been nightmare pupils at home, I think any parents coping and surviving are amazing.

Have you seen the vaccine prediction website? According to that I should get my 2 vaccines end of August beginning of Sept. Definitely no concerts for me this summer then. Grin

eggandonion · 13/01/2021 11:35

I'm similar, two of my kids are December to March.
Although I'm still eating Christmas goodies, my BMI is climbing rapidly.

Is there a vaccine website - I've only come across the Gov.ie information.

Not sure when I might possibly get the vaccine - do know I'm in the second last group though!

Iblinkedandiamold · 13/01/2021 14:01

@CherryValanc to be honest I dont know what it is, I clicked a Facebook link.

CherryValanc · 13/01/2021 14:24

Oh, no worries. It might even appear on my FB. Just thought it might be interesting to have a look.

It'll be a while for me - in the last group - well second last.

eggandonion · 13/01/2021 14:43

It's on something called omnicalculator.com I think? I was sent it via a WhatsApp message and don't know how to link to it.
