So sick of the attitude on our road... Our bell rang 6 times yesterday for our dc to come out & play... I understand they're kids & of course we will be lovely to whoever calls its the parents I'm annoyed at... They are working from home & don't want the kids disturbing them... I mentioned to my neighbour the figures were terrible again & she replied "I've stopped following it, it's too negative, we're going to live as normal from now on, kids are fed up"....
My dc are really enjoying being in this week with their playdoh, books, lego etc... They're also delighted homeschool hub is back for autumn... I probably come across as judgy but if kids also don't start reducing their social contacts outside of a school setting we're going to be on level 3 plus forever

I checked Tesco and the next available delivery slot is Tuesday, so not too bad. During lockdown it was 3 - 4 weeks.

anomletteandaglassofwine · 16/10/2020 10:07

This pandemic has exposed so many people as selfish and stupid. So many seem to feel that the rules don't apply to them. After last nights NPHET briefing, I don't know how we can turn this around if people won't do as they are asked. I'm not talking about careful people looking after elderly family, I mean people like PPs neighbours, who seem to have no common sense or sense of responsibility. Also why on earth are any GAA activities going on given how supporters behave.

TH says that the numbers are so big now that contact tracing is no longer functioning.

It's only October, it's not even winter yet and we are already at this point. It looks like TH wasn't being apocalyptic when he wanted level 5 less than 2 weeks ago.

This article was an eye opener, it's shows how widely spread the 'hotspots' are.

@anomletteandaglassofwine @321mamma
I couldn't agree with you both more.
As you say, it's not even winter and people are acting as if this virus doesn't even exist anymore - T H doesn't strike me as the type of man who would suggest level 5 for any other reason other than it is necessary. It's too early in the year for such high figures. People need to cop on and stop meeting unnecessarily including children.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 16/10/2020 11:09

Yes. That statement from NPHET says it all. We're on the brink.

eggandonion · 16/10/2020 11:18

In hindsight the leak was a shock, but by Monday people seemed accepting - then Leo said his piece and confused us again.
I have done my own supermarket shop throughout, because I need to see items, I just can't do the website. I wish they'd hold emergency slots for people who might suddenly need to isolate or restrict movements. I am scared of self isolation!

Just heard on Newstalk that Level 5 to be introduced for six weeks. Government decision imminent. ROI.

Now bear in mind this is just what is termed "breaking news" not confirmed. But I wouldn't be surprised. I'd say we are being prepped.

eggandonion · 16/10/2020 12:01

I saw that on Twitter, it was in the Irish Daily Mail. I wonder if that is totally reliable or unreliable?
I felt they were testing the waters with the leak.

OP posts:
eggandonion · 16/10/2020 12:07

RTE is also reporting it now, I wonder will the government agree this time?

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 16/10/2020 12:15

Just heard it. It must be critical for them to make this recommendation.

TheKeatingFive · 16/10/2020 12:17

There will be rioting on the streets if they do.

321mamma · 16/10/2020 12:24

When is the announcement due? Glad the schools are supposed to remain open, kids will have some normality... I'm happy for mine to go in, their school has been amazing however many parents want the schools closed due to covid fears & vulnerable family members which is totally understandable too...

LadyEloise · 16/10/2020 12:25

I'm abiding by the rules and now, because of stupid, selfish People it looks like we could be heading for Level 5.
If they had closed the off licences or limited their opening hours weeks ago perhaps we wouldn't be in this position.

Taytocrisps · 16/10/2020 12:45

I'm not sure closing the off-licences or restricting their hours is such a good idea. Remember the scenes in the off-licences on holy Thursday when the pubs used to close on Good Friday? People will find a way to obtain alcohol - whether that's buying extra during the hours the off licences are open, or driving across the border to off licences/pubs in NI. The anti-mask protesters would be joined by the 'Nobody's taking my alcohol away from me' protesters.

If we do move to Level 5, when will they announce it? Around teatime?

eggandonion · 16/10/2020 12:54

I think there is has to be a cabinet meeting, Micheal Martin is in Brussels. All this and Brexit too.

OP posts:
321mamma · 16/10/2020 13:00

Ffs, if they had followed nphets recommendations at first we'd have been nearly 2 weeks in at this stage.. Can't understand all this waiting around, surely the longer they procrastinate the more lives at risk.... They should have reviewed last night immediately after nphets letter : had Michael on video link...

Zeebeezee · 16/10/2020 13:29

321mamma

Agree. It is like they are wearing us down now, and hope that we will just throw in the towel and demand Level 5 lockdown now to try and stem the spread.

As you say, had Vlad not had a hissy fit re NPHET signal about L5 we would be more used to it now.

I dunno. Life is very fragile now for many. There is a lot of fear around, but still schools are open and life is going on for better or worse.

eggandonion · 16/10/2020 13:42

With lower death statistics, and a lower age profile of infection, I think there is a lot less fear. I had coffee a few times in a local hotel which took email bookings only at the start. As time went on people could turn up with no booking, it became busier. It made me a bit twitchy.

Lazysundayafternoons · 16/10/2020 14:27

From reading RTE news, am I right in saying that if we move to level 5, they still want schools to remain open? And construction workers can continue to work?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 16/10/2020 14:32

I honestly can't see how we could have level 5 and still have schools open. I know it's always been in the detail of level 5, but realistically I can't see teachers accepting it, I'd imagine they'd strike. And I would see their point. The whole country told not to work, not go anywhere etc yet teachers are ok to be confined to very small spaces with up to 30 children from different households for hours! Two of my siblings are primary school teachers btw so I'm certainly not a teacher-basher!!

Taytocrisps · 16/10/2020 14:39

Leo says there are no plans for a cabinet meeting today and that he hasn't seen the letter from NPHET yet.

Lazysundayafternoons · 16/10/2020 14:40

@LifeInAHamsterWheel I agree with you, it seems completely unfair on the teachers. I just dont get how it will work.
Again back to the GAA, ds age group are training again tomorrow, so mixing with kids from 4 other nearby schools, then will be back in school on Monday and in their class bubble (but will have mixed with children from 4 other nearby schools at the weekend). It seems crazy. I havent had ds at training since late Aug and am surprised at the number of kids still attending.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 16/10/2020 15:12

Leo says there are no plans for a cabinet meeting today and that he hasn't seen the letter from NPHET yet. FFS, he doesn't need to get back to the office physically see it, the whole country is talking about it Hmm The constant announcements/leaks are really starting to get on my nerves. NPHET should meet with government officials behind closed doors, discuss their thoughts & findings and make their recommendations. Then government officials should discuss and decide course of action. And then there should be an announcement. It's too stressful hearing what NPHET and every other expert thinks should happen and then having to wait to find out what's actually going to happen. Stressful for me, and I (thankfully) don't suffer from anxiety or depression. But it's certainly bloody annoying me.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 16/10/2020 15:13
