Does anyone know if you're allowed to travel to get a Covid test? I'm moving back to Ireland at the weekend, and will be self-isolating in my dad's house, and not sure whether to get one of the self-tests or book one in the Randox testing centre in Cork (about an hours' drive).

EmeraldShamrock · 24/11/2020 10:34

Thank you everyone. Smile
@MoreOfADogPerson If you're isolating will you need one?
I'm sure travelling to get a test isn't a problem.

Radyward · 24/11/2020 11:02

I am so very sorry for your loss @EmeraldShamrock. A neighbour died who had covid recently and the devastation was made worse we felt by the restrictions on her family. No visiting to the house just awful - no support. A very lonely funeral which all our community tried their best to help with from afar. Standing outside on a guard of honour etc. It really was in the end a lovely send off. I hope your mum got something similar too .

MM hasn't a clue what he is doing in his gilded office in Dublin. So out of touch with the public. I'm getting an I'm alright attitude from him and nphet plus anyone else in govt.
Throwing lockdown upon lockdown. Finger wagging and veiled threats to elderly people you wont be "allowed " see your families.the double standards .I have had enough !!!
. Not a word about rural loneliness. Throwing the hospitality industry to the dogs- as I have said before if we had a loved one in icu we wouldntt want 1000's of people to lose their livelihoods over it !!

Icu at capacity. Icu is always near / 100% full esp at this time of year BUT there is always someone earmarked to come out if an RTA comes in iykwim. People in icu are all at various stages of recovery iykwim !!

Nphet have scapegoated pubs and clumped the super pubs in with rural pubs in decision making how is that ok ???
Actually, who is making these decisions, our democratically elected Govt. Or holohan??

Like who came up with lockdown as a solution .

We as a family are consciously buying local as if leaving the management of this crisis to MM et al ,There will not be a pub / cafe / restaurant/ little shop left open in this country.
Who do they think funds the public purse??

sooo near sighted.
I think the govt.is so PC . Have to be seen to be protecting all lives makes them afraid of making the bold decisions we need .omg its absolutely soul destroying
The sacrifices people have made and not a word of acknowledgement from the govt/ nphet
I worked in private industry.target for bonus always just that bit unattainable. Work harder etc etc etc. And you will make it. Constantly moving goal posts
This is what the Gov carry on feels like now.
It's just all so animal farm - its spine chillingly terrifying.

EmeraldShamrock · 25/11/2020 20:44

@Radyward She did thank you, it made a big difference the support from neighbours.
Thankfully there is some light at the end of the tunnel with restrictions lifting on Tuesday. Judging by the crowd at primark in Belfast on Saturday people are not taking the measures seriously it will hold us in this lockdown cycle.
I've no doubt we'll have similar problems with crowds once the stores open Tuesday.

MoreOfADogPerson · 26/11/2020 10:38

@EmeraldShamrock

Thank you everyone. Smile *@MoreOfADogPerson* If you're isolating will you need one? I'm sure travelling to get a test isn't a problem.
It's the private test to hopefully allow me to shorten quarantine. I've emailed the test company to see what they say.

I'm very sorry about your mum - it's so hard at the best of times, let alone this year.

Lipz · 26/11/2020 19:43

SO annoyed with the schools today. Got all the performance reports online and everyone of them says that the absent days are UNACCEPTABLE, all in caps. big long winded writing about the importance of attending school . The only time they've missed is when the school told us to isolate them for 14 days ! one child has isolated twice !! they told me to keep them fucking home !!! sick of this shit storm. Well now I'm going to send them in no matter what they say and if they've an issue with that they can go fuck themselves !!!!

mrsfeatherbottom · 26/11/2020 20:38

Did you all see Simon Coveney's speech about Santa? So cute! DD was delighted.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/11/2020 20:54

I just saw the Coveney bit about Santa, so sweet, and almost completely straight-faced the whole way through. Doesn't he have children still of the age to ask those sorts of questions?

7Days · 27/11/2020 08:02

Lipz feck them. Write back, There is a pandemic on, I'm following official government advice about isolating with symptoms. Keep a copy and do what is the right thing for your own kids.

How could they possibly argue against that? Nothing will happen til the dust settles anyway, hopefully in the spring.

EmeraldShamrock · 27/11/2020 10:14

The advertising from GD tours in Derry was ridiculous. What were they thinking.
I'm thrilled it is cancelled after being on lockdown for 6 weeks I'd go onto the M1 to stop that bus myself.

EmeraldShamrock · 27/11/2020 10:16

Lipz ignore it they keep changing the rules do what works for you a responsible parent not sending sick DC in. Grin

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/11/2020 10:40

Lipz they are being ridiculous. Completely ignore them and follow your instincts.

eggandonion · 27/11/2020 17:40

Simon has three little girls, and lots of nephews and nieces. I think Michael McGrath has seven kids. They are both in my constituency. (Or I am in their constituency).
Much as I want to go for coffee/bowl of soup/ fancy dinner, I really really want to see my two big kids who are four counties away. (Although they treat me like a hotel!)

Lipz · 27/11/2020 19:00

So when they say 3 households can gather, is there a limit on the amount? So can my 7 gather with my sister's 10 and my brother's 8?

TheKeatingFive · 27/11/2020 19:23

Looks like it lipz

I haven’t seen any clarifying info on numbers. It would be difficult to do too, as some Irish families are big enough.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/11/2020 19:28

I'm in your constituency, eggandonion Wink

Lipz · 27/11/2020 19:50

Thanks for that, wasn't planning on doing it myself but everyone on my side and dh's side are pretty excited at us all being able to meet up over the Christmas. Lots of texts coming in and lots of planning going on....Yikes
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/11/2020 20:10

I don't think we'll be seeing our extended family in another county. I can't see it happening.

TheKeatingFive · 27/11/2020 20:18

Well I’m crossing the border on Stephen’s day to see my family, with Leo’s blessing or without.

I’m very glad to see restaurants given their chance. I’m unlikely to visit one in the run up (maybe afterwards) but they deserve a run at some decent business. It’s been very tough for them.

eggandonion · 27/11/2020 22:33

@IsFuzzyBeagMise isn't it a fabulous constituency, we can't go too far because the road to the city is practically non existent!
Are we all watching the Toy show?

OP posts:
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/11/2020 22:40

Hey eggandonion, I haven't been to the city for a long time; I've nearly forgotten what 'Pana' looks like!
Yes, I'm watching The Toy Show and enjoying it. Lovely kids and the format isn't too different from the usual.

halfpasteleven · 28/11/2020 00:18

The toy show was brilliant. So much positivity and a feeling of hope. An escape for a few hours.. badly needed.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 28/11/2020 00:19

I thought it was fantastic.

LadyEloise · 28/11/2020 09:57

What's "Pana" @IsFuzzyBeagMise ?

Taytocrisps · 28/11/2020 10:14

Loved the Toy Show and they raised an incredible amount of money (over €5m.) for the children's charities. Did you see the astronaut Chris Hadfield sent a message to the little boy Adam who has a brittle bone condition?
