I think you are right EmeraldShamrock people have got lockdown fatigue.
I do remember them saying that at the start, it's a thing that happens, and that's why calling lockdown etc has to be considered so carefully. Theres enough people who cant/wont carry on after a certain time.
I'm brilliant at lockdown, so I am, but that's because we have serious reason to be, in our family. Would i be be as good if we didn't? Can't honestly say so. Like to think it, but, if the danger was a bit more distant...?

Iblinkedandiamold · 22/11/2020 00:08

I haven't seen my friends since July. I miss them. We all have people 70 or older in our families so not risking it.
All we can do is look after ourselves.
Myself and my work colleague were only talking yesterday about how much of an impact it would be if one of us tested positive. The whole school would be affected as we have children from all classes in our afterschool.
It's amazing how one person can infect so many people.

Looks like Boris is planning on relaxing restrictions for Christmas!! NI cases will rocket further, so much for trying to have type of Island approach!

Vangoghimnot1 · 22/11/2020 10:22

I wish there wasn’t such an emphasis on Christmas. In my area plp are so compliant , businesses have been shut for weeks , I can’t imagine how stressful it must be for them. They have made a huge sacrifice. We aren’t seeing extended family this Christmas and I haven’t seen my older parents in months and months. When I hear about our airports being open for Christmas without testing I’m just incredulous !! After all the sacrifices plp have made to open the place up and have a massive lockdown again in January with maybe even schools closed...

LadyEloise · 22/11/2020 12:49

When i hear a pub in the airport is open at 8 am in the morning I just think what is the point of all the sacrifices.
Why is it allowed ?
Where were the airport police ?
Why were they allowed on the plane if it appeared they had drink taken ?
Why were they not arrested in Malaga for endangering the safety of an aircraft and its passengers ?
Is it because it would be bad publicity for the airline which would mean others thinking of flying wouldn't buy tickets ?
Personally it would reassure me more if the airline showed that they wouldn't tolerate improper behaviour.
Will the airline allow those people to fly back ?
Will they have to quarantine for 14 days ?
Who will police it ?
Sad

So MM has just announced we're going into level 3.. This is BEFORE they have met with NPHET. I thought they were meeting together and then deciding?

Is level 3 the same restrictions as what is on the chart they released months ago or are they creating a new one, cos going by that we can only meet up with one other family. Or an I reading that wrong? That's not going to go down well. Lots for this 6 week lock down so they could have a 'normal' Christmas. What about pubs and restaurants? Are they getting a chance to re open?

TheKeatingFive · 23/11/2020 17:23

My understanding is that non essential retail, gyms, hairdressers and so on WILL open next week.

The jury’s out on restaurants and pubs. Maybe outdoor only, maybe later, maybe not this side of Christmas.

Mixing indoors will be allowed at some point, including outside of county, closer to Christmas. Not sure about immediately.

Thanks for that. It'll be interesting to see what they decide for mixing indoors, just anxious waiting to see if I can keep using the virus to keep some in laws away 😂

Feel sad for pubs and restaurants, wouldn't be a huge goer myself but it must be very hard for them.

EmeraldShamrock · 23/11/2020 18:58

I hope restaurants were good to go on December 1st.
I really hope they are allowed to open.

TheKeatingFive · 23/11/2020 19:15

Yeah I hope they’re able to trade in some capacity. It’s been so difficult for them and they’ve been very patient and innovative all along the way.

eggandonion · 23/11/2020 19:38

I think level three restriction means no inlaw visits.

EmeraldShamrock · 23/11/2020 20:06

Level 3 includes no indoor dinning.
I'd love to go for a family meal with my siblings social distanced in a restaurant I'm not planning on meeting for our usual family Christmas dinner it wouldn't be the same after losing mam to covid in April hence my longing for a restaurant meal as a Christmas meal sometime in December no enclosed space in anyones home.

Lipz · 23/11/2020 20:24

I think level three restriction means no inlaw visits.
I shall print this out and send it to them 😁😁

Fingers crossed!!!
halfpasteleven · 23/11/2020 21:55

@EmeraldShamrock I'm sorry for your loss.

Iblinkedandiamold · 23/11/2020 22:08

I'd really love to sit in somewhere and have tea and cake. I'd even do it alone at this rate. At least I can travel within my county on l.3. Still no penny's though. 😔
@EmeraldShamrock so sorry your loss. Hopefully ye'll be able to do something.

EmeraldShamrock · 23/11/2020 22:24

Thank you. Flowers
It's a horrible situation for everyone fingers crossed we'll see an end to this soon.

LadyEloise · 23/11/2020 22:30

Oh EmeraldShamrock, sympathy to you on the loss of your Mum. Sad

eggandonion · 23/11/2020 23:07

It is a very difficult time of year for families who have lost someone, this year is especially hard.
I love tea and cake too!

thelegohooverer · 24/11/2020 06:42

MM really lacks emotional intelligence I think, which, until this year, I’d have assumed was a necessary characteristic for a career politician. He’s failing to make a connection with the people. It’s not enough to declare Level this that or whatever.
We’re supposed to be at our highest level of restrictions but, apart from pubs, restaurants and shop workers I don’t know anyone else who is working from home. The last lockdown was so quiet, but this time everyone seems to be an essential worker. I think everyone is doing their best for their particular individual circumstances because they know that no one will help them if they go under. The sense that we’re all in it together, that we were working for a greater good, is gone. People know that if they lose their business there is no recovery package, if they lose their mental well-being there are only waiting lists instead of services, etc.
And if the Taoiseach isn’t interested in what Nphet have to say, why would he expect anyone in the country to respect their advice either, or his for that matter?
I thought it was shocking at Halloween that it was the Minister for Higher Education that was speaking to the children about Halloween - where was the minister for children? The minister for education? Or the Taoiseach? They think that kind of thing is too small an issue to be bothering with at their level but that’s exactly why they’re failing.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 24/11/2020 07:38

EmeraldShamrock I'm very sorry to hear of your Mum's passing. My sympathy to you and your family.

I totally agree with this.

I think it became obvious the government wouldn’t be doing any of the difficult stuff to get this under control, just pushing the burden of lockdown after lockdown on the people. So people do what they can to survive.

They better get their shit together and get that vaccine out fast, as a third lockdown will be even less effective.

emeraldshamrock Flowers. I hope you get to spend time with your loved ones, it’s very tough.

I’m stunned at how unimpressive many of the ministers are in this government. No skills, no charisma, no basic connection to speak of.
