I suppose I’m referring to large demonstrations on Grafton Street and raves in flats being broken up. I think they have capacity for that and expect the army would be an option for back up also.

wannabebetter · 06/10/2020 12:40

I hope there'll be some sanctions for NI residents travelling to ROI too as last time loads of people just went ahead & travelled as 'ROI guidelines didn't apply' if you weren't a ROI resident!

eggandonion · 06/10/2020 13:48

I don't understand why the postmaster or postmistress can't sign forms instead of guards. Social distance seems to be a thing of the past since masks arrived, and automatic gel dispensers seem to dribble out tiny amounts now.
Visors are reduced to a euro in Dunnes, maybe they could be decorated as Halloween decorations or something?

Shopgirl1 · 06/10/2020 14:17

Visors are not meant to be effective.

eggandonion · 06/10/2020 15:32

They are more or less useless, the rules should be tight fitting mask. But I can see why a visor is more pleasant to wear.

MadamBatty · 06/10/2020 15:56

Anybody had a test recently? How long did it take you to get a result?

LadyEloise · 06/10/2020 18:13

Of the army are brought in to dispel crowds the Council for Civil Liberties will be up in arms as usual.

Quarterback11 · 06/10/2020 21:20

@MadamBatty Getting results the next day around here

Quarterback11 · 06/10/2020 21:23

Visors should be worn with masks IMO, visor to help protect you and mask to reduce risk of you spreading it. You can catch it through your eyes.

MadamBatty · 06/10/2020 21:37

@Quarterback good news. I want to know either way

halfpasteleven · 06/10/2020 22:15

Hope you get good news @MadamBatty

LadyEloise · 07/10/2020 10:32

Checkpoints and tailbacks.
What's the point ?
Restricting off licenses hours of opening would make more sense. Though it would be very unpopular.
Pubs are a more controlled environment than house parties. Unless your like the idiots who go on a multi pub "pub crawl" with booked slots as mentioned upthread.

How come Leo as Tánaiste is so vocal. I don't remember Simon Coveney being so prominent when Tánaiste.
It must really grind Mícheàl's and Fianna Fáil's gears

eggandonion · 07/10/2020 10:42

Leo isn't great at keeping quiet, there was always a loud, opinionated person in school!
The off licences stayed open in lockdown, didn't they? I was passing a local third level place a couple of years ago, late morning, rag week. The amount of drink being bought, slabs of lager, was incredible. People are obsessed with buying drink.
I'm sad about cafes closing around me, I'd happily sit outside in winter on a dry day, but most places where I live have no outside area.

MegCleary · 07/10/2020 11:04

Hmmm level 3. Am in uk and am planning to try and come home for christmas. Take kids out of school early dec, ferry home quarentine and then see parents. Will we still be level three then do ye think? My sister wont be able to come up from Kerry if so. Can I still drive cross country with the restrictions. Am so hoemsick, not seen them since last christmas and they are aging Sad

TheVeryThing · 07/10/2020 11:27

Med that's so tough. I really hope we won't be at level 3 by Christmas as so many people won't be able to visit family. Level three means no travel between counties so can't see that happening at Christmas.
My brother lives abroad and has given up on the idea of coming home this year.

TheKeatingFive · 07/10/2020 11:41

If we are at level 3 (or higher) at Christmas, compliance will be pie in the sky. Good luck to them.

What a fucking nightmare,

LadyEloise · 07/10/2020 17:02

I was in a big shopping centre today.
One of the very popular stores was closed, temporarily apparently, because of Covid19. Probably staff were having to self isolate.

My friend is going through a tough time but because she lives in Meath we can't meet up.
All those people missing loved ones who are in hospital or nursing homes or long term accommodation facilities it must be so difficult for them. That's why the feckless, be they ministers, judges or ordinary Joe Soaps really annoy me.

Iblinkedandiamold · 07/10/2020 21:18

Well my trip to Belfast is off. I'm glad really because I wasnt comfortable about going. I'm exhausted anyway so will be using midterm to recharge.
Really nervous about the numbers, not so much the number of people infected but the death rate and the hospitalization seem to be climbing too.
I can see the affects on the children too. The older ones talking about no trick or treating, worried about confirmation and communions. Anxiety manifesting in headaches and tummy pains that dont exist. Poor things.

thelegohooverer · 08/10/2020 09:19

At this stage I would settle for people keeping away from strangers. I’m vulnerable and quite capable of staying away from raves and house parties but I do need to shop. Every time I go out I have people breathing down my neck, leaning across me and a disturbing number of maskless men walking straight into my space. It shouldn’t be this hard to stay away from people I don’t even know, but it is.

mrsfeatherbottom · 08/10/2020 09:58

@Iblinkedandiamold - probably wise to delay your trip and come when you will actually relax and enjoy it!

eggandonion · 08/10/2020 11:48

I am increasingly annoyed with the visor people. They look super smug. They come closer than the undernose mask wearers.

JaneJeffer · 08/10/2020 15:16

I felt sorry for Dr. Martin Feeley last night. He's been treated so unfairly just for giving his opinion.

LadyEloise · 09/10/2020 10:36

Listening to GPs, one working in Donegal and the other in Monaghan on Pat Kenny on Newstalk. It's meet ups in houses and house parties. It must be impacting schools too if the Government are now considering a two week midterm break at Halloween.

What2do2 · 09/10/2020 13:25

In our town ( which usually a busy , touristy place) all the pubs, restaurants, cafes are now closed....
I believe this will encourage even more house parties and get togethers in houses..
The businesses here could not have done more to comply with the regulations. By introducing this new max 15 and outside dining it’s basically left it impossible for businesses to open again. Schools more than likely to close for two weeks or maybe again for months, who knows!? How exactly are people supposed to work. And I’m one of the lucky ones who works from home flexibly.
The knock-on , economic fallout from this will be disastrous... The lack of proper management of money in our health system is also why we are in this situation, our economy will collapse because the hospitals can’t at all cope with any big surge in cases whatsoever.

Quarterback11 · 09/10/2020 15:46

Absolutely, it's driving me mad (no pun intended) seeing the garda checkpoints doing nothing only causing delays. I've always just been waved on. It's not the people in cars in the middle of the day spreading it.

Enforce isolation. Give isolation address and then it will be spot checked (Garda call to the door). Fines if breaching it.

Garda to drive around at night/answer calls to where house parties are.

Spot check businesses to ensure they are compliant, businesses with customers and without customers. Most are. Check ventilation, cleaning, social distancing etc. Frequent checks on known offenders and close them down (e.g. pubs that are known to have lockins)

Allow things that are low risk. They lost me when they tried to stop parents watching their 8 year old play gaa (they rowed back a bit on that). So instead parents went to a cafe, which is much higher risk.

Invest in public health department and contact tracing instead of garda check points.
