Yes, 321mamma. I can't understand why those rallies are allowed happen either.

LadyEloise · 05/10/2020 11:08

The guards are too busy doing traffic duty on the N11 going out of town as Pat Kenny said ".....shooting fish in a barrel..."
as motorists may exceed the 60kmh limit on a dual carriageway at 11 am in the morning or 2 pm in the afternoon but you can do 100 kmh on narrow roads all over the country.

A money making exercise.

I believed this Police Commissioner would prioritise things.

@TheKeatingFive

I am self-employed in the health sector, level 5 will screw me financially.
It could lead to my being unable to pay my mortgage by the end of the year.
Saying that...
"For a disease that’s hospitalising less than 5% of those who get it."

I have seen several post-Covid patients, none of whom required hospitalisation. Each of them are operating at 50% of their normal capacity. The "long Covid" exhaustion is a real thing.

They are not able to keep up the demands of their job, running a home, keeping kids going.

There are bigger implications to this disease than "just" the people who died or who are hospitalised.

Personally, I am fit and slightly overweight. I am worried about getting it, as I cannot afford to be working at 50% energy levels. My business will go under.

I'd rather a month at Level 5 than me being ill with 6months of recuperating.

That’s very far from a given though. There are thousands getting this disease whose illness is barely registering.

Which is why we need much clearer data shared on illness severity rather than ‘cases’. 4 people I know have contracted Covid in the last month. 3 of them were asymptomatic, one very mild (had backache). All tested as close contacts.

We need to understand what’s actually going on - based on hard data - instead of reacting to anecdata and the stories that hit the media.

LizzieAnt · 05/10/2020 11:49

I'm sure NPHET have data that you or I don't have access to. I'd say they have a pretty fair idea what's going on. We need to listen to them.

TheKeatingFive · 05/10/2020 11:49

And what about all the people for whom a ‘month on level 5’ will certainly mean job loss and an inability to pay rent/mortgage? These numbers are very significant.

TheKeatingFive · 05/10/2020 11:52

They have a very limited remit though (as I keep stressing).

Are they looking at the unemployment predictions that go along with level 5 for ‘four weeks’? The child poverty stats that will go along with that? The numbers that will lose their homes?

I doubt it.

TheKeatingFive · 05/10/2020 11:53

I mean, it’s not their job, so that’s not a criticism. But there’s is not the only voice that needs to be listened to.

TheKeatingFive · 05/10/2020 11:53

Their’s

LizzieAnt · 05/10/2020 12:22

I agree all that has to be considered, which is hopefully what the government is doing right now. There's no good way out though. The economy will suffer too if the virus is allowed to keep spreading.

Lipz · 05/10/2020 13:20

As much as I hate lock down, I think I'd rather level 5 get this sorted and back to some sort of normality. Maybe my 2 who are still shielding could return to work and school.

There's still a significant amount of people shielding, if they go out and mix the hospital numbers will rise.

We can't continue watching numbers, having each county on different levels and different rules. Not knowing what each week will be.

It would be so much better to suffer a couple of weeks of lock down then knowing our numbers will drop and be able to feel safe returning to work etc. Instead of months of being put on different levels and been angry if we see someone having a party or breaking rules.

Of course there's the downside of MH, loss of jobs etc no income we have it here in our own home, but if this was tackled properly my dh would be able to return to work and my dd to school. We're currently living not knowing what's safe and what's not.

I just don't know how they can achieve this leaving the schools open, out of my 5 schools we've 35 positive cases, my kids are practically sterilised when they come home to protect the 2 shielding, it's stressful. I rather the schools open but how can having that many people moving about stop the spread. Our teachers and principals are arses, I've seen their true colours during this time, harassing me when one of them is out, they're looking for letters from GPs for normal illnesses. My eldest dd year had 12 cases last week so I kept her off as she was in contact with 4 of them, I could paper the walls with the arsey emails they've sent me about sending her in, I'm still been hassled by my disabled dds school even though I've sent in a full medical report, a letter stating that she's high risk and they rang me to tell me that she has to return to school that the government has not accepted her many illnesses as very high risk!! They also informed me that because the letters and reports have not been accepted by government they have had to now report her missed days as they're over 20. Talk about been fucking cunts excuse my language. And to top it all off her school has 5 positive cases, there's only 50 pupils who all have serious illnesses.

LizzieAnt · 05/10/2020 13:26

@Lipz
I'm so sorry, that sounds horrendous.

Shopgirl1 · 05/10/2020 13:39

2 weeks won’t do it though. Lockdowns don’t work to completely eradicate it unless you are an isolated island with closed borders. All that will happen is another cycle of relaxing restrictions and then tightening them again.

Shopgirl1 · 05/10/2020 13:42

Those schools are out of order. I’ve similar. My son was off due to contact with a confirmed case in school. He restricted movements and thankfully tested negative twice. It was stressful. Didn’t stop school sending mixed messages - principal noting he must stay off, teacher sending messages about how TULSA would be notified if absence about 20 days.

Shopgirl1 · 05/10/2020 13:42

Above 20 days.

JaneJeffer · 05/10/2020 13:48

They have to notify TUSLA

JaneJeffer · 05/10/2020 13:51

Sorry posted by accident.

They have to notify TULSA by law. The teacher may not agree with it but they have no choice. I think 20 days is too little in the current circumstances. It should be increased especially for children with underlying health problems. DS2 has mild asthma and could miss that many days in a normal year because he picks up chest infections so easily.

JaneJeffer · 05/10/2020 13:53
  • TUSLA (can't type today)
Shopgirl1 · 05/10/2020 13:58

Fair enough they have to notify them, but it’s written like a threat when all we are doing is following guidelines. The tone of the note was my issue, I don’t care if they notify them, my son had never missed a day in three years school before all this, standard emails about notification are pointless in the current climate.

TheKeatingFive · 05/10/2020 16:03

Well, looks like the government has seen sense on this.

JaneJeffer · 05/10/2020 16:08

So are we all on Level 3 now?

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 05/10/2020 16:09

It looks like it.

eggandonion · 05/10/2020 16:17

My head is melted looking at my chart! Will it be real level three or will there be optional extras?

Lipz · 05/10/2020 16:39

I thought they were meeting at 5.30pm? Are they definite on level 3?

TheKeatingFive · 05/10/2020 17:08

Strong suggestions from the government, etc, etc.

I expect they leaked that to calm the business leaders down.

Whatever anyone thinks about NPHET’s recos, their communication on this has been absolutely shocking. To leak that to the press last night, with no warning to government, was not acceptable.
