IME most people are hopeless at social distancing after the first 5 minutes, but especially teenagers. Not intentionally, they just forget when they are with their friends. I just can't see how it's going to work in schools despite everyone's best efforts.
Our school (secondary) plans to have all year groups in 4 days a week, remote working one day. I wouldn't be surprised if that becomes 2/3 days at school. DS met some school friends today that he hadn't seen for 6 months, it still seems crazy to say that.
I feel so sorry for school principals, what an absolute nightmare trying to balance providing an education while keeping everyone safe. I heard a discussion on the radio this morning that it would be safest to keep all windows and doors open for maximum air circulation, pupils and teachers were advised to wear base layers and keep coats on! A principal was talking about the protocols they had put in place if a pupil has symptoms during the school day, involving a coded note to be brought to the office, full PPE and isolation rooms. It's like something from a dystopian movie.
I'm trying not to think too far ahead, this winter has the potential to be very difficult. I'm in 'one day at a time' mode. So much can change so quickly.
