DH lost a close family member and the funeral was tiny. Sad
One rule for them and one for us.

eggandonion · 06/07/2020 17:29

I think everyone on the island now knows someone who has had that experience, dh lost a relation and a friend lost his dad. The latter would have had a very big funeral family, friends and through business. It's very upsetting for people.

chartreuse · 07/07/2020 12:09

I just downloaded the app, I hope it has a high uptake, might enable us to get back to some kind of normality in the autumn

Re the funeral, SF/IRA have always been utter hypocrites, that display they put on at the cemetery shows that they still regard themselves as entirely above the law.

I heard Mary Lou trying to justify it, talking about what a great guy Bobby Storey was and how her son idolised him, what a great role model he was for her kids. There's a good article in the IT about what Storey was actually like, not a role model I'd choose I have to say.

Our family friend was a lovely man, spent his whole life trying to help others, and we had to watch a live stream of his funeral where his wife of 50 years couldn't even be comforted by her family. Two of their children had to watch from abroad as the couldn't travel.

I hope people remember this kind of thing when the next election rolls around.

eggandonion · 07/07/2020 12:48

To be honest, Belfast is 300 miles from where I live, it doesn't affet people personally if people go to a funeral five hours away, and they will make fancy promises about how they will spend the magic money. So I don't even know if it has registerd.
If Arlene Foster had gone to a funeral of a UVF leader in East Belfast, visited Roselawn with a few hundred people (it has a lot of quite staunch loyalist graves although no 'plot' as far as I know), then headed over to the City Cemetery in West Belfast I think similar questions would be asked.

Mícheál Martin appointing Barry Cowen and leaving Jim O' Callaghan and Dara Colleary out of cabinet.
I despair !

eggandonion · 07/07/2020 14:15

I bet Mrs Martin is sick hearing about Barry.

LadyEloise · 07/07/2020 14:28

eggandonion

?????**

eggandonion · 07/07/2020 15:19

Can't you imagine... All the angst about who to appoint and Jim complaining, then giving Barry a job and nobody had ever mentioned his driving conviction. My dh would go on and on, I'd be fed up hearing about it.
I'd sack Barry.

AngelaScandal · 07/07/2020 19:09

I’d say Barry’s last name isn’t winning him any favours with the popular vote

eggandonion · 07/07/2020 21:44

He's very sorry and sad.
How was it kept quiet, it would have been front page news had he lived near us! At least he wasn't stopped by a guard and let go.

eggandonion · 07/07/2020 21:59

The road safety lady on Prime Time doesn't care that he is sorry and sad, quite rightly.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 07/07/2020 22:01

And he was still on a fucking provisional. How did he get a speeding ticket and a drunk driving conviction on a provisional and only get a 3 month suspension??

honeyrider · 08/07/2020 03:50

Just goes to show FF haven't changed, Barry Cowen's drink driving on a provisional licence kept quiet yet 3 years prior to this Claire Daly hadn't even made it to the garda station and it was all over the media and she wasn't over the limit.

Then Kellegher the MEP flew back from Brussels to vote for Mehole for taoiseach and he didn't self-isolate. Definitely do as I say and not what I do.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 08/07/2020 07:57

Sorry, I was wrong above about the speeding ticket. I was sure I'd read that somewhere but according to a piece in the IT today I didn't. Still, drink driving on a provisional. If only i thought he'd lose his ministry over this...

LadyEloise · 10/07/2020 08:36

6 deaths and 23 new cases yesterday with 77% under 25 years of age.
Scary.
It hasn't gone away. Sad

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 10/07/2020 09:04

I saw that figure about young people.
DC are dying to get out and meet their friends, who they see on SM. Friends are all meeting up, going to the beach, hanging out at each other's houses. Sad

And, then you see those figures. R number gone back over 1.

It's such a tough one. Kids and teenagers especially need to be with friends for their social and emotional development, and their mental health.
But balance that with the risk.

mummabear1967 · 10/07/2020 09:10

I wonder when they’ll allow unlimited gatherings indoors and outdoors in NI?

mummabear1967 · 10/07/2020 09:12

@LadyEloise is that in ROI?

LadyEloise · 10/07/2020 09:31

@mummabear1967
Yes it's in Ireland.

mummabear1967 · 10/07/2020 09:38

@LadyEloise that is quite high and rather scary.

I hadn’t been paying much attention to ROI’s numbers - I hope they start to come down sooner rather than later!

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 10/07/2020 16:16

To put it in context that's 77% of 23 people.

eggandonion · 10/07/2020 16:30

So about 18 people. It would maybe be good to know if there was a party, shop, sport or wherever people were infected. I don't see social distancing at all between teenagers, and local supermarkets seem to have a lot of children in now, with parents browsing - the 'control' is gone.
I'd say ask wearing in supermarkets near me is 40 percent, no social distance from staff.
I met a friend who is a nurse, and we had a lovely masked chat.

Iblinkedandiamold · 17/07/2020 19:08

Oh, a little concerned about the numbers. I really hope we can keep going forward. All over Facebook people on blaming tourists, no mention of all the house parties that are going on. I did worry we were rushing things a little.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 17/07/2020 19:26

I agree...we're supposed to be going to a holiday home in Kerry in a couple of weeks and I'm starting to wonder if it's a good idea...
