@ElspethFlashman it's very easy for us to become blase about it all when we are not on the front line. Hopefully people will still take proper precautions.

I literally got dressed today just to go for a run, getting back into pjs now. I was hiding from the sun.
I was also doing some online courses so not all bad.

Inniu · 09/05/2020 19:19

It’s very hard to stay inside in the lovely weather people want to go out and enjoy it. Lots of people don’t have much or any outdoor space.

My brother lives near a park in the north inner city in Dublin. Lots of complaints in the media about the crowds out there playing football etc but my brother told me some of these are just really large households. He knows plenty of groups of mostly South American’s or Roma who live 10 or 12 people to a flat.

We did some gardening and need potting compost. The local supermarket has pots and plants but no compost.
Garden centres will be very busy when they open, I think they should have been operating all along. And I am not a keen gardener.

Inniu · 09/05/2020 20:15

Our local petrol station has compost.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 09/05/2020 20:50

Some of the Bulider’s yards do huge bags of soil and even compost, but our local ones are packed.

eggandonion · 09/05/2020 21:02

Our petrol station has plants. We have loads of flour, eggs and yeast locally. I need a sort of grow bag amount of compost!

LadyEloise · 09/05/2020 21:13

I really really don't want a second wave of Covid19 to hit but I think it will happen as people have really eased up on restrictions.

eggandonion · 09/05/2020 21:46

Dd2 and i have been walking in the more upmarket parts of town the past few evenings, there are sounds of jolly barbecues in back gardens, more than just a nuclear family. The guards are driving round main roads, they should be wandering round suburbia a bit more.
There must be a huge number of wealthy people living near us, some houses are massive, with several expensive cars outside.

ElspethFlashman · 09/05/2020 23:37

I think we can guarantee a wave after restrictions ease, all countries seem to have one. Some have clamped down again in alarm.

But I suppose as long as our ICUs are ok, then we can manage. And we haven't reached capacity at any point nationwide so we'll be ok.

mathanxiety · 10/05/2020 09:14

'All I want is a simple pint of fucking stout. It's my right as an Irishman!'

Just want to share this Smile

eggandonion · 10/05/2020 09:56

That's great.

LadyEloise · 10/05/2020 10:14

Oh Mathanxiety Grin

MarDhea · 10/05/2020 10:27

Brilliant math 😂

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/05/2020 10:53

I never thought I would feel sorry for Hitler, as an Irish woman, I feel his pain. Grin

Iblinkedandiamold · 10/05/2020 12:30

Seriously how did we go from Yesterday's weather to today's?

Inniu · 10/05/2020 13:07

One of the local restaurants here does collection/delivery of pints in glasses with food. I could walk in under 2 minutes.
I’m not a pint drinker so haven’t bothered. I was looking at their cocktail list

NewAccountForCorona · 10/05/2020 13:36

I just love that Grin

eggandonion · 10/05/2020 14:03

I'd love a cocktail. We went 5 km to a not very lovely beach, I've never seen more than three cars at it. Guards were there, so we went 5km back to the petrol station and got compost, the shop is small and very hard to be2m away from people.
Then we went another2km to an industrial estate with lots of disused land, so the dog got a run.
It's beside a closed off amenity walk, lots of cars parked up for people to go to the walk, under the tape. I think should have a direct line to the gardai station. I know what's going down amongst the middle classes.

NewAccountForCorona · 10/05/2020 15:47

I'm really glad we don't have the English government in charge here (English - Scotland and Wales seem a bit better). I can't believe Boris is drip-feeding, the government are issuing guidance via stealth and waiting to see what the reaction is before making decisions, and Boris is tweeting new slogans but not telling anyone anything.

Even tonight's big address to the nation (that everyone has been anticipating for about 3 weeks) is going to be pre-recorded, and presumably no-one will be able to ask any questions.

It's a complete shambles.

eggandonion · 10/05/2020 16:57

He must be tired, having been ill and with a new baby. Maybe he should take a wee break.
I am just realising how often I nip out for bread, or go to the CoOp for a paintbrush, or wander into the pound shop, or go 10knm to the big city and look at shoes or other random things. I can feel myself starting to do that more now, and thinking I should be more organised.

ManorMouse · 10/05/2020 18:40

and look at shoes or other random things

I know how you feel. Not that I was ever a big spender, but the chance to mooch about the shops for a couple of hours is something I really miss. That and the banter and socialising at work. When it comes to WFH, all I'm doing is the 'work' bit and nothing else.

Granted, in the current situation, it's only a small whinge compared to what others are going through and will go through but....

eggandonion · 10/05/2020 19:10

My slippers are worn out, I wear shoes for about an hour a day now.
I miss the chitchat in work, and meeting people in our small town. Dh misses his lunchtime friends in work, goodness knows when his staff canteen will reopen. Dd2 misses after work pints on Friday. Ds misses his Mammy!

Iblinkedandiamold · 10/05/2020 20:31

I'm watching Emma and I've just realised that the film Clueless is loosely based on this.
I think I've just realised it anyway, it might have been something I knew before but forgot. Grin

eggandonion · 10/05/2020 21:27

Ten things I hate about you is the taming of the shrew. It's fabulous.

Inniu · 10/05/2020 22:15

My Dad was an English teacher and used to get students to watch Clueless when they were studying Emma.
