We're used to being broke Grin Grin
I love this.

It'll all be grand unless you have notions about yourself... you'll not be getting your new electric Rav4 this year.

Iblinkedandiamold · 22/04/2020 11:09

MCD are releasing a statement today at 12 regarding cancelled or rescheduled shows with a follow up next Tuesday.
@NewAccount, dont think there'll be pay raises anytime soon. The October budget will be interesting, but at least we'll be alive..hopefully, and hopefully back at work by then.

eggandonion · 22/04/2020 12:00

Dd2 was supposed to get a pay rise, but it's postponed. I thought McD was McDonald's! Super Mac are starting to reopen, we use it occasionally at Mayfield services but I don't think it's got a drive through.

7Days · 22/04/2020 12:52

God I'd murder a snack box, none within 2k of here unfortunately

AngelaScandal · 22/04/2020 13:08

Curry chips and cheese come this way

Iblinkedandiamold · 22/04/2020 13:20

You can go further than 2k for food, Supermacs back open by Friday. I missed it, although I rarely ate there. It was nice to have the option.
Westlife Concert rescheduled until next year. I've heard nothing about my 3 yet.

NewAccountForCorona · 22/04/2020 13:59

If Supermacs are open, surely they could open the Mcdonalds drive throughs? Imagine the queues!

ElspethFlashman · 22/04/2020 14:06

Well I for one am going to HORSE into a Supermacs the first minute I can.

I think they're opening today!

Zantedeschia · 22/04/2020 15:10

McDonald's were always allowed open, they just choose not to for the sake of their staff. It's easy to socially distance from customers if drive through only but very hard for staff to socially distance from each other in small kitchen/serving spaces.

I’m waiting for a refund from Vue for a movie we’d booked for tonight. Also hoping Ricky Gervais rescheduled for later as we had great seats lol.

Iblinkedandiamold · 22/04/2020 20:27

Mcd have a list on their website with rescheduled dates for a some of the shows and concerts. A whole list should be complied by next Tuesday.

Bedroomdilemma · 23/04/2020 09:19

I like this thread, but shit like EarlofEggMcMuffin’s last post make me want to throw my phone out the window. My dh’s thriving business pretty much disappeared in the length of time it took Leo to make his speech closing the schools. He can’t really earn again til the lockdown is lifted. Almost every couple I know, one of them is already on the covid pandemic payment, or is worried about their job disappearing in the near future. My old place of work is now talking again of a 10% paycut and “voluntary’ unpaid leave just like in 2008. Mostly people are keeping their spirits up and trying to appreciate the extra time, but this is v dependent on the €350 which takes some of the burn off, and which the country can’t afford for long - I see already today there’s talk of tapering it out. But to insinuate people who are worried about their economic futures are people with notions is just fucking insulting.

eggandonion · 23/04/2020 09:34

My job is possibly or probably gone for good. My dh is public service and was hit by every pay cut, tax change, levy in the recession. This might well happen again. My ds has a public service job, and will be busy as things reopen in the economy. One Dd is in the hse being redeployed, the other is in a fairly new job with an employer who has been good so far.
But we were going to change our car for a second hand hybrid. We spend way too much time wondering if we should tax the current car for three or six months.

Iblinkedandiamold · 23/04/2020 11:18

@Bedroomdilemma that's really tough. So sorry you're going through that. To be honest I'm not sure about my job. I'm 99 percent sure I have one but it all depends on funding. What I'm reading on Facebook on a Childcare group has me a bit worried. There's that 1 percent that's waking me up at 6.30am every morning.
I honestly dont think EarlOfEggMcMuffin meant anything by the post. Just a bit of an Irish Joke about notions. As in will you look at Mary down the road in that get up, she's got notions.

eggandonion · 23/04/2020 11:26

It's not a great time to have notions, with nobody to admire you. My neighbour has notions, her recycling bin is still overflowing with the big brown boxes flatpack furniture arrives in. What is she buying, where is it from?

LightACandleHoney · 23/04/2020 11:43

I have notions.

We have had a truly shitty five years with (among other things) cancer, 2 long term illness with some significant flare ups in the last few years (most likely due to stress), the painful reality of so-called friendships when we were at our lowest, and selling our house at a loss.

We are not out of the woods yet, but we were just starting to see light at the end of the tunnel when all this covid stuff started. We had an offer accepted on a house and I’m not going to lie - I had notions! I wanted it to be a sanctuary for my family.

I don’t even know if the sale will proceed now, but if it does I will hold on to as many of those notions as we can.

NewAccountForCorona · 23/04/2020 11:49

Bedroom, the comment about notions was obviously a joke, as was my comment about being "used to being broke". Surely we can hang on to a bit of ironic humour though this.

I've lost my job, as has my son - neither of us will be back working until pubs and clubs open which might be December at this rate. When the €350 goes we'll be on around 200 quid between us (not enough stamps so we'll be on jobseekers allowance, and he's under 25 so will get practically nothing) so I know what it's going to be like. Fucking hard.

I won't see my kids for probably 6 months or more and I'm worried sick about them, and my parents (late 80s) haven't seen anyone for 6 weeks.

But it's not the politicians' fault. They've done a great job here; it's the virus to blame.

eggandonion · 23/04/2020 11:50

i hope the sale goes through OK, it's bad enough at the best of times. Our new second hand car isn't important as we can't go anywhere.
I find New Year really unsettling - this year I was right!

Iblinkedandiamold · 23/04/2020 11:59

Ah lads I'm in bits watching this morning. Marti pellow singing love is all around me and all the messages. My heart goes out to people in nursing homes who cant see their families.
My problems now seem so small.
I wont be getting my wages after June 19th as that's when we were closing for the summer and I haven't been saving like I should due to depression which flares up every now again leading to late night shopping but at least I'm not dying alone. My parents have a huge garden so I can sit and talk to them when I drop shopping off. My son may not be talking to me and I cant see other family members but thank God I'm not alone day in and day out. I am blessed really.

NewAccountForCorona · 23/04/2020 12:03

My neighbour is taking advantage of this by building an extension, by himself. It's fantastic to see; only problem is he can't source windows and doors so it's looking lovely and airy at the moment. I'm not sure how pleased his wife is about it Grin

NewAccountForCorona · 23/04/2020 12:05

Yes, I'm lucky I have my son here, and to be in my own house; I could be so much worse off. I'm also really lucky my parents have each other.

I'd be very lonely on my own.

eggandonion · 23/04/2020 12:11

I have a neighbour whose wife and son have designed a fabulous garden project for him. Without garden centres and DIY places, they are asking for materials on Facebook - it's amazing what they are gathering up that others want rid of.

Focalpoint · 23/04/2020 12:18

Saw this on Twitter for Dr Gabriel Scally who did the review of the smear test controversy.

Ireland is an 'experiment' in #coronavirus response. N Ireland has followed Whitehall approach. Rep of Ireland has followed @WHO advice. The death rate for #COVID19 deaths in hospital (and for all COVID deaths) is 50% higher in Northern Ireland. bit.ly/2zhaPJf

Coronavirus in ROI/NI part 2
LightACandleHoney · 23/04/2020 12:31

That makes me want to weep @Focalpoint

And to hear the chat today from Arlene about when our schools might reopen and how it might be different from the rest of the UK, but the decision would be taken in consultation between the NI government and CMO and their counterparts in the UK, with absolutely no mention of consulting/coordinating with ROI just made my blood boil. This is NOT the time to play party politics.

Focalpoint · 23/04/2020 12:41

I know. The positives are that this is being highlighted by NI academics and medics. It is not even about "following the ROI" it's about following the WHO advice, putting in robust testing and tracing.

The big issue is going to be the rules that are put in place for people arriving into NI once restrictions ease. I can see ROI telling people arriving to self quarantine for 2 weeks but can't see Stormont agreeing to that for people coming from England. Scotland and Wales. And then what will ROI say about the border.

Brexit arguments on steroids.
