I think she now is recovering from pleurisy, which is a complication of the original virus? In the early days there was a diagram of who a close contact was, and who had to be isolated.

Barbararara · 14/04/2020 16:58

It’s funny but this whole situation is changing how I see politicians - before I saw them as the personification of their politics (which isn’t unfair, I think) but now I see them first as fellow humans. I’m genuinely happy to hear about Boris and Mary Lou recovering, and concerned for their emotional well being, just as I would for anyone else. It’s almost maternal. Shock

One of dh’s employees is being tested today so we’re praying that he comes back negative. It’s a slow enough process from being concerned enough to ring the GP to actually getting a test appointment and God knows how long until he gets a result. We were hanging on his every word listening to a blow by blow account of the test process. We have too little excitement these days 😂

I didnt think much of Leo, I mean I liked him when he first became taoiseach then he said and did somethings that made me angry, now I am thanking God he's our leader, i shudder to think where we'd be now if Enda or Bertie were still in charge. Shock
I too was concerned for Boris. Glad he's doing well. Also happy to hear Mary Lou is okay, who's going to disagree with everything buy not actually offer any solutions. (Okay that's not fair, poor Mary Lou.)

eggandonion · 14/04/2020 17:59

Or Dr James O'Reilly as health minister, or Mary Harney!
But in a small country you get to know people, whether they are mates or not. I think Mary Lou and Leo would be good for a gossip, Simon Harris would show pictures of his baby on his phone, Boris is a disaster who would be accident prone. But would talk to anyone

ElspethFlashman · 14/04/2020 18:02

I always secretly enjoyed Leo, ever since he was just some random young TD who had a serious case of "say what the fuck he actually thinks" disease. I remember him sailing close to the wind on occasion and was probably only saved cos Enda liked him. People always thought he was too blunt and too frank.

Of course now it's working in our favour, as it all feels extremely transparent.

And I thought he looked knackered on Easter Sunday.

NellGwynsPenguin · 14/04/2020 18:04

@3luckystars NI has a land border with the republic. You don’t need a ferry to drive down......

People are driving down from the North to their holiday homes in Ireland. I think the tolerance will be very short lived for that kind of entitled selfish behaviour tbh. Everyone needs to stay at home.

Iblinkedandiamold · 14/04/2020 18:07

Today is a day where I seem to be hungry all the time. I've only just ate and I'm hungry again. I did a work out this morning and since then the pain in my hip is worse and it's shooting down my leg, even when I move my ankle the pain shoots up my leg. I didnt get out for a walk today and I cant sit in my Garden, the neighbours can see me and they have barky dogs. They are so loud and annoying.

Inniu · 14/04/2020 18:14

Iblinkedandiamold
That is me all the time these days. Hungry and eating!

Iblinkedandiamold · 14/04/2020 18:19

Oh Good glad it's not just me then. I know most of it is boredom.
A big jump in deaths today. Very sad to hear. Sad

eggandonion · 14/04/2020 18:28

They do keep warning us about dark days to come, but the bigger figures bring it home.

Iblinkedandiamold · 14/04/2020 18:36

Yeah, they keep saying we'll probably hit the peak in mid April but they dont know for sure. It's good they are keeping us informed though.

Dk20 · 14/04/2020 18:43

@eggandonion couldn't agree more with your descriptions of Leo, Mary Lou, Simon Harris and boris 😂😂
I went through a phase of eating eating eating, then realised the other day I'm the heaviest I've ever been Confused so since then I've been our for a long walk every day. I worked 7 til 4.30 today, then went straight out for a walk. Now sitting with a cup of decaf coffee and no biscuits to go with it Sad

eggandonion · 14/04/2020 19:16

I can't drink tea or coffee with no biscuit, toast, cake, chocolate. One of them, not all of them at once.

Iblinkedandiamold · 14/04/2020 19:18

I could easily have a cuppa with all of them. 😂

eggandonion · 14/04/2020 20:02

Sometimes if you have tea or coffee out, you get a perfect scone. With lovely jam, some places give you the wrong jam. I'd love to go to a cafe now for a perfect scone.
DD2 is monitoring my food intake, and my tea level.

Iblinkedandiamold · 14/04/2020 20:54

I miss going for a Sunday walk with my mum and having a cuppa after it. Never even thought twice about it before. Days like today I would've gone for a walk in the forest and had an ice-cream sitting g on a bench watching the world go by. I would be off for Easter. The cafe in the forest park would have lovely Easter decorations up, I'd take a picture or two, maybe read a book. It's still so surreal that I cant do that. I never thought I wouldnt be able to do that.
Even if I was bold and broke the rules travelling mord then 2k from. Y home for a walk, the shop isnt open anyway.

Apileofballyhoo · 14/04/2020 22:46

We all think the same about Mary Lou and Leo! I am glad we have a doctor in charge at the moment, and grateful for the transparency also. To be honest I don't know what to make of Leo. I think I've read his DM came from a traditionally FF house and his DF voted Labour when he lived in the UK. Recently I have been wondering if he has High Functioning Autism.

eggandonion · 14/04/2020 23:43

Or is he just a posh boy who forgets we aren't all from well off families, and lacks a bit of empathy? Simon Coveney has vanished recently, I wonder if Brexit is still occupying him. I like wee Pascal too.
My test is whether they'd talk to you on a plane, and how boring they'd be.

7Days · 15/04/2020 00:57

Oh, trapped on a plane with a boring neighbour... those were the days .....

Inniu · 15/04/2020 01:04

I think Leo’s mum is Labour. I remember when he came out as gay people asking his Mum how she felt and she said she was upset when he joined FG but not when he told her he was gay.

I also heard that Simon Covney is practically being kept in a bunker. Until a new government is formed, under constitutional law he is the only one who can take over if Leo gets sick. Don’t know if that’s true though.

LadyEloise · 15/04/2020 09:55

Miriam Lord in an Irish Times interview states Leo's Mum came from a Fianna Fáil family and his father was a Labour supporter in UK.
Personally I would have preferred Simon Coveney but Leo is doing very well now as caretaker Taoiseach.
Being a doctor, living with a doctor and having family working as health professionals must give him great insight into what is happening on the ground, so to speak.

NewAccountForCorona · 15/04/2020 10:18

I never had much time for any of them before this, but I do think Leo and the two Simons (and the medical lot) are doing a great job at the moment. I'm wondering if this new agreement with FF and FG means that Leo will have to step down - if they have any sense they'll leave him in charge until the crisis is over as I think most of the country trusts him to get us through this as well as anyone could.

I'm also eating out of boredom. If this goes on much longer I'll be rolling out of here. ds got some flour last week, so I'm baking, eating half the mixture before it hits the oven and most of it when it comes out Blush

eggandonion · 15/04/2020 11:40

I'm about to make a lemon drizzle cake, I never bake before lunch. And I have a supermarket trip ahead of me, to get fresh food. I have a lot of tins and frozen vegetables.

Inniu · 15/04/2020 11:45

You’re right Lady my mistake. Leo’s mum must be happy at the prospect of an FF/FG coalition.

eggandonion · 15/04/2020 11:57

But she'd want her Leo to be head boy.
My dh vaguely knows Micheal Martin, he is pleasant enough but no fun.
