Not guilty. So will they be back on the pitch or are their lives blighted forever by this?

Her photo was doing the rounds on social media during the trial along with a lot of unpleasant comments about her.

TaytoAllDay · 29/03/2018 09:30

I am absolutely devastated for that girl, this is why people don't come forward! Men & their glistening careers chosen over the welfare of a woman/young girl. Can't stand it!
Dragged her name through the muck to make themselves look "better", makes me sick.
Just because they're "famous" and have "status" this was let away with, disgusting. I wouldn't have even known who they were walking by them in the street. Such egos.

I hope that girl isn't too devastated my heart goes out to her Sad poor little thing, so young.

MrWriter · 29/03/2018 11:33

I'm horrified by this decision, those Whatsapps are shocking and the medical report is shocking.

The way "middle class" girls where referred to, and the rugby player being from "good families" yeah, if you're from a privileged background then you couldn't be a rapist. Ugh. Drives me nuts!

FlaviaAlbia · 29/03/2018 11:43

I have no words for the acquittal.

General opinions of my wider friends and family is split into either one of, they're guilty and should have been convinced and the poor girl will have to emigrate or they're not guilty but still despicable human beings.

I can only hope their careers crash and burn since justice wasn't served in court.

It's not much, but at least you can register your disgust by signing.

honeyrider · 29/03/2018 12:50

I signed it earlier. I hope those vile men and their families that despite their own opinions of being good families this court case has shown they're far from that image.

Somerville · 29/03/2018 12:53

All of my family are Irish rugby fans (and in some cases Ulster supporters too) and they're all saying they shouldn't play again based on the vile texts messages and the holes in their stories. They're also all saying they'll boo them if they do play again. I'm trying to get them all to write to the respective clubs.

Viviennemary · 29/03/2018 12:56

I doubt it will bother them. Because that is the type of people they are. They will think what they have done is quite fair enough and the court has agreed with them.

Somerville · 29/03/2018 12:58

Thanks for sharing that Flav - I've sent the link on to a lot of people.

RosaDeZoett · 29/03/2018 13:04

I totally agree with you Maryz, it would never occur to them that a woman would be anything other than thrilled to be part of their little porn fantasy. Lucky her.
I hope this ends their careers at the very least.

TheCraicDealer · 29/03/2018 16:16

Thanks for the petition link, I've signed and sent on to my friends who are equally pissed at this whole scenario.

skippykips · 29/03/2018 18:30

Signed!

MegCleary · 29/03/2018 18:41

Signed and I am intrigued that this is the Irish rape case in the papers. It was tried under the British judicial system.
I am appalled there is so little about it in the Guardian and the Telegraph.
I am delighted by the amount of support she is recovering from the protesters in Ireland and the north of Ireland today.

Is it showing us closer as a people?

Is it another case of bad things Irish good things British as it used be in the bad old days of the media claiming actors and singers as British when they were good and ditching, them after misdemeanours.
Not a gripe of fight picking fancy genuine debate.

FlaviaAlbia · 29/03/2018 20:28

I think it's because the men played for Ireland and whole island sports vs NI being part of the UK is too confusing for the average UK person who doesn't know or care about NI/Ireland Meg

drinkswineoutofamug · 29/03/2018 20:34

I'm disgusted , the poor girl.

Signed and shared on twitter

MegCleary · 29/03/2018 20:53

FlaviaAlbia thanks for the reply and yes maybe that's it.It is such a vicious attack and all women should be up in arms not just Irish women.

Yeaididthat · 30/03/2018 06:59

I just can't believe how things are continuing to unfold- this morning it seems one of the jurors has been answering questions about the trial online! Lunacy Confused

OP posts:
OldBlueStitches · 30/03/2018 07:06

Is that even legal?!

StripySocksAndDocs · 30/03/2018 07:14

Really Yeaididthat? What a farce.

I was so saddened by the verdict. Also sad that I wasn't surprised they weren't convicted. They aren't 'innocent, a 'not proven' (like scotland) would have been better that this 'not guilty. Too many disgusting humans now justified about their opnion of the woman and the vilification of her.

It's so depressing.

sashh · 30/03/2018 10:42

Can we go for the sponsors?

Money seems more valuable than women, ask sponsors if they will continue to sponsor if the players are re instated?

A mass email asking their position might be worth a shot

Link to a list of sponsors.

@Yeaididthat I heard that on radio this morning! Anyone any idea what she was saying? Be interested to hear what she had to say. But yes what an idiot - and this is one of the ones who judged on this case - hang my head

sashh · 30/03/2018 11:10

Hi all, I've just been blocked from twitter, not sure why, was having an exchange about this.

Noname9 · 30/03/2018 11:21

I’d like to offer a different perspective here .... I know it won’t be popular and everyone will just dismiss it as ‘rape apologist bollocks’ etc but there we go.
The consensus seems to be that these men had an overwhelming sense of entitlement that made them immune to thinking they needed to explicitly seek consent - almost as if they think “well of course she wants to sleep with me” but can we consider WHY they might think that? Because either you have to believe they are born that way or you need to start thinking about why they feel like that?
I have a friend (I know!! But I really do!) from school. He is average looking, funny and a generally nice guy. Not sporty. My school was big in sport and, guess what, none of the girls were interested in him romantically at all. But the sporty guys - well, they had there pick of girlfriend - a queue in fact. They were no better looking, no more funny or intelligent but the girls literally fought each other to be the girlfriends of those in the team. Why is that?
Fast forward 20 years and my friend is famous. Very famous. And guess what? He is literally besieged by women. And I’ve seen it for myself. If we eat in a restaurant, notes are sent over from women offering to sleep with him (they are a lot less polite!), before he moved into what is basically a prison, women would track him down to his home and try to sneak in! If he’s at a party, he’s surrounded. It’s fucking ridiculous.
When I was younger I worked in a club frequently by a top football team. The ‘VIP’ area was roped off. Women would stand in a queue waiting all night in the off chance of being let through. They’d offer the bouncers “favours” if they’d let them through.
Might that contribute to this sense of entitlement do you think?
My friend has not got any better looking, not got any funnier or kinder or cleverer - he has got famous (& rich) - what has changed dramatically is women behaviour towards him not the other way round. Interesting?

sashh · 30/03/2018 11:24

Noname9

So?

Does your friend thin he has consent to have sex with every woman on the planet?
