Looking for a hotel for a two night honeymoon. Preferably with a pool. Not in Dublin. Any ideas?

Lough Eske, Donegal is beautiful.

RuggerHug · 30/08/2017 17:06

Dromoland Castle is amazing. Didn't make it to the pool but everything we had/did there was wonderful!

Maudlinmaud · 30/08/2017 17:13

Agree lough eske is gorgeous. If you want to come north of the border the Galgorm is lovely too. Food is super as is the spa.

MadeinBelfast · 30/08/2017 17:52

Galgorm is great or maybe Slieve Donard if you are coming north. I've heard great things about the Ice House in Ballina (although I'm not sure it has a pool).

WipsGlitter · 30/08/2017 19:23

I'm in the North so have been to the Slieve and Galgorm! And Lough Eske! Will check out Dromoland. Thanks.

Wips what about the good old K club? I can't complain about it. Farnham estate cavan is very nice, I love the spa. There is a nice outdoor and indoor pool. Foods excellent and the breakfast mmmmmm

Powerscourt in Kildare is lovely

ArieltheMermaid1720 · 30/08/2017 20:07

Louth Erne?

WipsGlitter · 30/08/2017 20:29

Not sure about the K Club. Farnham looks good! Have been to Powerscourt as well!

The Osprey in Naas is gorgeous. Naas not so much but the hotel is lovely.

Fauxtatoes · 30/08/2017 20:33

Alternatively Inchydoney Island if you're looking for something further afield.

FlaviaAlbia · 30/08/2017 20:34

Druids Glen, we were there over the summer and it was lovely.

What did you think of the Slieve Donard? I was so unimpressed and disappointed, I felt it was resting on its laurels a bit.

Maudlinmaud · 30/08/2017 20:42

Flavia I've had some good times at slieve Donard. They make the best long Island ice teas, in fact the cocktail bar was great in general. I had a very good time Grin
I thought it was interesting that Charlie Chaplin stayed there.

curragh · 30/08/2017 20:49

Cliff House in Ardmore, exceptional in every way

FlaviaAlbia · 30/08/2017 20:53

I've just worked out how long ago it was when we stayed there and I can't believe it but it was 8yrs! So I hope it's not the same.

At the time, the service wasn't great, things like not being able to get an expresso at breakfast because the bar was shut, we were charged for different, more expensive, spa treatments than we'd booked and some of the furniture in the spa was broken. Just left a bad impression overall. Wink

Hayfield Manor in Cork. Gorgeous pool and spa.

ilovepixie · 30/08/2017 22:02

Lough Erne resort, Fitzwilliam Belfast. Europa hotel all lovely hotels.

Foggymist · 31/08/2017 04:06

Ashford Castle, heaven!! Knockranny House Hotel's penthouse suite is amazing and they have a pool. Parknasilla is lovely as well, not sure about pool but fantastic food. The Europe in Killarney.

WipsGlitter · 31/08/2017 07:32

Some great ideas! We're in Belfast so some might be too far when we only have a few days - don't want to spend ages driving!

Castle Leslie is fab too and a bit further up the country, don't think there's a pool.

justforthisthread101 · 31/08/2017 13:20

Cliff House is fabulous. Worth every penny.

Personally I think Dromoland is dreadful but to each their own!

hollyisalovelyname · 31/08/2017 20:02

Kelly's Hotel Rosslare.
On the beach.
Food to die for.
Swimming pool.
Train down from Belfast.
They'll pick you up from the station I think.

Ballyfin- but soooo expensive- I don't know if it has a pool.

WipsGlitter · 31/08/2017 20:14

Ballyfin is ludicrously expensive. Guess it keeps the riff-raff like me out!!

I'd choose the Park Hotel in Kenmare. Lovely grounds, great spa, fabulous food and rooms and Kenmare's nice to wander round as well.
