Irish treats for England

Hi folks, I'm returning to visit my old work in England and wanted to bring the department some typical Irish treats that can't be got in England but can't think of what to bring. Any suggestions?

'Ritz' the perry, not the hotel obviously.

TinyPawz · 12/08/2017 00:44

Cinnamon lozenges. I used to get my ma to post them over to me in London. Then they would get snaffled up by my colleagues and the ma would have to send more and repeat

TinyPawz · 12/08/2017 00:47

Soreen loaf was another thing that I craved

WildIrishRose1 · 12/08/2017 00:52

Superquinn sausages
Tayto SALT & VINEGAR
TK Red Lemonade

WildIrishRose1 · 12/08/2017 00:54

Ken Aldi still do jambons in the frozen aisle - got a packet last week. I was only discussing this very product with DC today!

splatattack · 12/08/2017 01:00

Ohhh also Coleraine Cheddar, cookstown sausages and yellow man...

I'm also missing tobacco onions from the Ramore Wine Bar...does anyone know it?

thequeenoftarts · 12/08/2017 01:28

Supervalu also sell jambons, in the same freezer section that the ice is in....

ItsNachoCheese · 12/08/2017 01:42

Im in scotland and for my family anyway any get together has top hats. I make them with my 2yo ds

treaclesoda · 12/08/2017 04:43

@splatattack I was in the Ramore just this week, where my dinner came with an enormous amount of tobacco onions. I can tell you, they're just as good as you remember.

This thread is giving me advertisement nostalgia.

'Kimberley Mikado and Coconut Creams, someone you love to love someone'.

'Cidona, there's no escaping the taste'

'Let the big O flow, Club Orange'.

I think that last one is surprisingly risqué for 1990s N Ireland...

CarolinePenvenen · 12/08/2017 05:22

A nice Brennan’s batch loaf. Toasted. With loads of butter. And a big mug of tea. Sigh.

IdoHaveAName · 12/08/2017 05:27

I'm heading over and have the following on my shopping list:

Tayto Cheese and Onion
Knorr Farmhouse Vegetable Soup Blush
Proper brown bread (brown soda bread)
Manhattan Cheesy Popcorn
Clonakilty White Pudding

Would love to get some Carroll's ham but don't think it would last the travel time. Sad

IdoHaveAName · 12/08/2017 05:32

Also debating about getting Calvita! (plastic cheese should go the distance of travel time?)

pigeondujour · 12/08/2017 05:45

Scottish here and was confused til that explanation as I definitely remember eating 'top hats' although not calling them that. "They're a Presbyterian thing" made me laugh. A Presbyterian marshmallow with a bit of Presbyterian chocolate Grin

Tobacco onions are the shit.

IdoHaveAName · 12/08/2017 05:55

I have never seen nor heard of a top hat until this thread. And I am 39 long years old! And Irish! Must be NI.

CarolinePenvenen · 12/08/2017 06:05

Ive seen Calvita in Asda. Or was it Galtee...? 🤔

IdoHaveAName · 12/08/2017 06:09

Oh, must have a gander in Asda... Was it with your usual cheese?

SwearyBerry · 12/08/2017 06:55

Tayto onion rings

Laineymc7 · 12/08/2017 07:30

@splatattack love the ramone and love Tabacco onions they are NI's best steak topper.
Love the desserts at the Ramone.
Desserts England are missing is the raspberry ruffle cheesecake
If any of your are near Earlsfield in London they have a little Irish ship called Mandy's where you can get yourself some taytos, a football special and a yummy brunch bar (best ice cream ever).

BroomstickOfLove · 12/08/2017 07:55

The Mikados that people are talking about aren't the ones that you get in Supermarkets in England. They are a jammy marshmallowy biscuit.

CarolinePenvenen · 12/08/2017 07:59

No not with the other cheeses, it was in a weird place with Polish stuff etc. In a random section full of dubious looking sausages Wink

CarolinePenvenen · 12/08/2017 08:00

Oh oh! Ice burgers! My favourite Irish thing ever. Not sure they’ll travel well though... Grin

CarolinePenvenen · 12/08/2017 08:01

Icebergers even Blush

JuicyCake · 12/08/2017 11:45

Are Icebergs not available outside Ireland?

Tanora was another lovely fizzy drink, we used get it in Cork. Tangerine flavour. Don't know if it's still made...

JuicyCake · 12/08/2017 11:47

Icebergers!

Bardo · 12/08/2017 11:54

Icebergers don't melt though. That would put me off them. They must be 20% polystyrene.
