Hi folks, I'm returning to visit my old work in England and wanted to bring the department some typical Irish treats that can't be got in England but can't think of what to bring. Any suggestions?

Lindy Club Orange is a fizzy orange drink.

Youcouldbemysilversprings · 11/08/2017 21:26

Veda! Fifteens, punjana tea, or suki tea, even better! Copeland gin, the rhubarb one is amazing, tayto cheese and onion obviously, potato bread (fadge)

Unescorted · 11/08/2017 21:27

An EU passport.😉

OlennasWimple · 11/08/2017 21:28

Black bacon and white pudding if you have a short journey

Tayto cheese and onion
Barry tea

Soda bread is relatively easy to find

TheScottishPlay · 11/08/2017 21:28

Red lemonade.

FannyFifer · 11/08/2017 21:29

King crisps, Rancheros.

HolyShmoly · 11/08/2017 21:31

Club orange/lemon is a superior fanta. Rock shandy is kind of like the two mixed together but you can get it in a bottle on it's own and it's a hangover miracle cure.

A ham and cheese jambon is one of my recurrent homesick cravings. If anyone knows of where to get similar in England I'll be eternally grateful.

Also, Doherty's sausages. Not as workplace-friendly though.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 11/08/2017 21:36

I love rockshandy !

Ah rock shandy. Could just down a bottle glass of that now.

CarolinePenvenen · 11/08/2017 21:53

Never had a top hat, are they a NI thing? Never mind, I’m adopting them as my own!

LivLemler · 11/08/2017 22:06

Top hats definitely a staple at all kids parties when I was growing up in Dublin in the 90s.

Youcanttaketheskyfromme · 11/08/2017 22:07

Taytos salt and vinegar twists. Oh god can you send me some ? I love them so !

HelenaJustina · 11/08/2017 22:11

Cadbury's Golden Crisp
Barry's tea
Cheese and onion Taytos
Red lemonade

DM is coming over soon and all of the above are in her checked baggage!

nancy75 · 11/08/2017 22:15

After reading this thread I think someone needs to send me a care parcel - I've obviously had a very deprived life & now need all the stuff mentioned above (apart from the sausages, I can do without sausages Grin)

KenDoddsDadsDog · 11/08/2017 22:16

Tesco have a good Irish food aisle in the bigger stores.
ALDI used to do jambons , not sure if they still do.

ThreeFish · 11/08/2017 22:17

Club Orange:

I'm indifferent to top hats. They're just a bit of chocolate and a bit of marshmallow.

ThreeFish · 11/08/2017 22:20

Potato bread, so they can enjoy this lightly toasted, buttered, and served with runny Brie and black grapes. Yum.

And Nambarrie tea. Proper strong stuff.

HolyShmoly · 11/08/2017 22:21

Oh I've never noticed the jambon in Aldi. I'll take a closer look. Any idea where about they are?
Gregg's bacon and cheese thing is ABSOLUTELY NOT the same. They broke my heart.

The Irish bit in Tesco never really has anything I desperately miss.

BroomstickOfLove · 11/08/2017 22:22

Kimberley's
Mikado
Cheese and onion Tayto (although I had some at an Irish festival recently, and they weren't as good as I remembered)

And a new one for the list:
Ballymaloe Relish.

ThreeFish · 11/08/2017 22:22

Squoosh, me too. Toddler party food.

BroomstickOfLove · 11/08/2017 22:24

You can get potato bread, wheaten bread and soda bread in most supermarkets here. Not Veda, though.

whojamaflip · 11/08/2017 22:25

Brown lemonade
Tayto cheese and onion
Breakfast strips
Plain loaf
Veda
Cadbury mint crisp

Mums just come over for a week and her case was full of the above Grin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 11/08/2017 22:25

I'm not a jambon expert but DH said they were the right ones as they had sauce in them but just cheese ?
I'll see if I can find them .
