Chicco Next2Me Magic is tilted

I have been using a Chicco Next2Me cot with my new born and have noticed it is slightly tilted thus my baby wakes up with his face against the side bar. I thought it was him that moved naturally towards us but have tried moving it and rotating it and it is always against the same side (with the side that lowers down) even if we are the other way around. I can also see that the cot tilts a bit even without the baby.

Any has had the same experience?

I complained to John Lewis and they said it was fine, when it is clearly not and still trying to get a proper response (they are being terrible, with really late emails and asking for pics even if I have already sent them).

Hey OP

We have the same crib and I thought our 3mo was just shuffling himself into the side!

I am out now but will be checking if it’s tilted as soon as I get home.

His poor face is right up against the mesh every morning.

This is precisely what happens to mine. Have tried other 2 cots and no problem there!

Ours tilts too! It is so annoying and often wakes up my now 14 week old baby because he ends up so close to the side that his arm falls in the gap. We have to move him to the non-opening side continuously throughout the night. He can't even move himself that much because he's in a sleeping bag and he still ends up right up against the side. We never leave the side down at all because at least when it is up, his face will go up against the mesh.

We got our money back from JL, but neither them or more importantly Chicco admitted there was a real problem. There was a mention to a «non flat angle» which was astounding. Check out the response from Chicco: «We do not recognise that there is any fault with the product, the rocking feature of the Next2Me Magic naturally creates a non-flat angle, which is normal and is part of the product characteristics.«They also mentioned the angle is naturally reduced if you strap the cot to the bed but this is only possible with very specific beds.

What you describe is exactly what we had. I think we should all complain. How is this cot and its non flat angle nominated as «best cot of the year»????

Sorry for necroing a post but just in case someone stumbles into this thread like I did... The tilting happens if you don't assemble the next2me correctly (I had the same issue).
The claws that fix the the crib need to be facing downard (the open part of the claw needs to be facing down) instead of upward. If you put them facing down, the crib will have the slight tilt towards the bed.

I mean the hooks that stop the crib from swinging.
In the manual they are called Crib Structure side uprights or Locking/unlocking right/left tilting function.

That fixed it - many thanks! I think it is fig 24 that has the claw and that I got backwards. Now completely flat. :)

I've just fixed mine, thanks so much to the person who said there was a fix, I assumed there was something wrong with the crib after all those comments.

To fix the problem, switch the arms around with the 'claws' on the end. I had mine the wrong way around. It was obvious when I looked at the cover page of the instruction booklet x

I have the exact same problem but cannot fathom out the fix as described by @Palmeida and
@rach1stbaby. I would be extremely grateful if you could detail step by step what to do please. I cannot identify the "claws".

@Florencehill I'm sorry I have no idea how else to explain the claw, I feel like you would know what it was if your crib has some, there should be two. One each side of the bottom of the crib, which clips onto the bar across the bottom to stop the crib swinging. Mine is the Next2me magic crib, it may be different to yours? X

@rach1stbaby firstly thank you so much for replying. Ive been pulling my hair out trying to decipher yours and @Palmeida's descriptions, cross referencing it against the paper manual and getting nowhere. And no wonder, my Chico Next2me Magic must be a different version as there are no claws that fix it to the bar underneath the crib. Im wondering now if mine is simply faulty. There are a metres of straps and clips that fix rightround the base of my bed and attach to the bottom of the crib. I think thats supppsed to steady the crib but it doesnt work for me. In the meantime I have gone off piste and tied these straps tight to the bar nearest to the floor. The crib is petfectly still now but I.wont know if the angle is level till my son sleeps in it tomorrow...

@Florencehill just learned that that is another version of the next2me. In this other version the "claws" are replaced by 2 buttons (one on top of each handle). You press the buttons and the crib no longer rocks. My solution doesn't work for this model of course.

@Florencehill the only thing I can think of is that you put the bars (the ones that end near the straps at the bottom) in the wrong places. Try switching the left one to the right and vice-versa.

Hello @Palmeida, thanks for getting involved again. And yes I have the other model you mention above. My problem is that the buttons seem to be faulty. The swing motion is limited (it swings out one way but stops in the middle). When I deactivate the swing there is still a lot of play/wobble in the bracket meaning the crib comes to rest at a tilt. (Staping it around the bed frame does not resolve this) In the meantime my makeshift fix may have worked. I woke and my son was in a diagonal posistion, not forced against the mesh as previously. I have contacted the vendor to ask for an exchange and they have asked for a short video of my problem. Fingers crossed they will admit its faulty.

P.S Thanks for your suggestion but the parts you mention (the two upright ones do you mean?) Are not interchangeable.

Hi @florencehill where did you get with this? What was the outcome with the vendor? I have tried everything to stop mine ( no claw model) tilting towards the side u can open. Still each morning my little boy is nearly sideways with his face squashed up against the mesh😔😔.

Hi there. I emailed the online company I bought it from and they have asked me to send a video of the fault which I have yet to do as my first video was too big to attach. I have discovered a temporary fix using the long strap that is intended to go around the bed frame from clips underneath the crib. I discovered that if I use one of the straps to loop from the clip on the underside of crib then go underneath the central bar that almost touches the floor (the lengh of the stand) and back again using the other free clip and pulling it taught with the buckle then this stops the crib from tilting and its level. Its worked for me. Youre basically strapping the crib to its centre. I will take a photo tomorrow for you as baby asleep in it now.

@Goldilocks12384 I am sorry for the overdue update but sadly the online shop I bought it from said the movement was 'normal'. But I don't think they are familiar with the product and who are they to decide what's normal? They also said I could contact Chicco for another strap and they would send this for free. This shows they have not understood my problem as I have no need for an extra strap to put around the bed frame.
My son is 5 months old and no longer ends up in the side mesh but this is only because he is now 18lb and takes up a lot of the space.
I am exasperated with the vendor's reply. It took me a long time to get round to taking the video of the fault as it had to be under a certain size file and I am alone with my baby and now they have completely disregarded the problem.
I feel I might be better emailing Chicco to complain.
I am attaching the image of my "fix".
I would not recommend this crib obviously. I have never been able to.use it "next to me" as intended to be level with my mattress as the crib's legs do not extend high enough. Its been a disappointing product that I regret buying and now feel I could not sell on with a clear conscience.

@Florencehill, thanks for the update! Yes they have not understood the problem indeed. I see you have it well strapped up. Chicco would definitely be the best people to direct our concerns to however we could be fighting a loosing battle!! It's definitely a design fault. I too think it was a disappointing buy!

Hi all, sorry to revive this (again) but I'm having the same issue with my Maxi Cosi iora bedside sleeper. Does anyone know if there's a similar issue/fix?
