This is petty but it's genuinely blighting my days

I have cheap boots, the only ones I could afford, and my feet are permanently cold and damp. I couldn't afford leather when I was buying them, and now I can't affordmore.

I could wear trainers but they leak in wet weather, I could wear my wellies but they aren't warm. I'm stuck with cheap boots and I'm pissed off about it. I'm not used to it, I was a spoilt child and always, ALWAYS had leather winter boots.

second hand/charity shops

or wellies and double thick socks?

Fimbo · 27/11/2009 16:08

M & M Direct sometimes have leather boots at a fraction of the full price. Do you have any spare cash at all?

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 27/11/2009 16:08

what about ebay? I got a second hand pair - literally worn once with an £80 receipt from John Lewis - they haven't been off my feet in two years - I paid £6 for them.

Life is too short to wear shitty, uncomfortable shoes or boots.

posieparker · 27/11/2009 16:09

Ebay....

LynetteScavo · 27/11/2009 16:11

Could you get some after Christmas in the sales...something to look forward to?

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 27/11/2009 16:12

no idea what size you are but there are 36,000 pairs of leatehr boots

colditz · 27/11/2009 16:14

You know, you lot are ace. I was expecting tpo be bawled out for being such a spoilt baby (And in my dad's words "you made your bed, now lie in it!")

I will peruse ebay.

You are right, life is too short. I shall put the water bill off another week and damn well have comfortable feet./

I bought a fab pair of Clarks leather boots in excellent condition in a charity shop. I think I love them even more because they only cost me a fiver.

It's astonishing what people just throw away - often new

posieparker · 27/11/2009 16:25

don't know what size you are but....

jbg · 27/11/2009 17:38

Try ebay. I'm wearing a pair of Nine West boots that I got for £15!! They're comfortable, look good and are leather. )

tiredfeet · 02/12/2009 22:46

wellies and really thick woolly socks are my solution. I have to commute by train a lot and I don't care about how I look, just staying warm and dry!

also, could you get to an outlet store or similar for good leather boots at a better price?

AmericanHag · 03/12/2009 00:36

Until you get some better boots...have you tried one pair of thinner cotton socks and one pair of thick, warm ones over them? This works for me and I have very cold feet.

Oh, and you're not a brat for not wanting your feet to be cold and damp!

LentilsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 03/12/2009 00:40

Bendybob -rofl at 'sounding like a Womble'.

Hope your feet are warmer soon Colditz ..

VicarInaTinselTuTu · 03/12/2009 00:40

why have i been paying full bloody price for boots when there is Ebay??

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 03/12/2009 00:50

You can get some warm fleece insoles in the £1 shop.

LastTrainToNowhere · 03/12/2009 01:01

Never think you're being miserly by desiring good shoes, especially in winter. Good shoes are very very important...I'd rather have one good pair of shoes that keep me warm and dry than several cheap pairs.

Like others say, definitely try ebay and charity shops. I got a lovely pair of Hush Puppies leather boots from ebay for only £20 including p&p. Try to get the best you can within what you can afford.

Best of luck

NorkyButNice · 03/12/2009 07:10

What shoe size are you?

I've got numerous pairs of size 8 shoes that have either never been worn or only once or twice which I'm about to charity shop.

Happy to send them on for p&p!

Lizzylou · 03/12/2009 07:15

Same size as Norky here, size 8.
I have some (fairly worn) leather boots you could have.
I think I may have a leetle look on Ebay for me as well.........
YOu are not being spoilt at all, having cold feet makes you so bloody miserable.

Buda · 03/12/2009 07:16

Cold wet feet is not petty!

If your feet are cold, you are cold and if you are cold I think it has been proven that you are more likely to pick up colds and things.

colditz · 03/12/2009 12:20

Oh you're very kind, but I'm a 5!

I have dug out an old pair of my mum's walking boots from her cupboard (when she split up with Dad she spent a huge amount of shoes of all types), and had a look at them - they are leather, warm and are proving to be waterproof.

they aren't pretty, but they are very warm.

'I'm an 8'

NorkyButNice · 05/12/2009 09:56

Offer stands to anyone who'd like some size 8s!

What kind of shoes would you like? Have stilletos to boots with a lot more inbetween!

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 05/12/2009 10:02

Colditz I'm in exactly the same boat except as of two days ago my choices are a pair of (very nice) wellies and a pair of trainers with a split in the sole
DH split his shoes yesterday and immediately went out and bought himself a new pair but I'm the nonearner left juggling the books so just can't be that carefree.
I will be phoning my mum and begging for an early Christmas present I think

Kbear · 05/12/2009 10:03

A pair of foam insoles will help temporarily, I bought some recently to put in a pair of high boots that slipped as they were a bit big and the difference in comfort is amazing!!

Comfortable feet and a warm coat are absolute essentials in my book, and it's not brattish to want dry warm feet!
