This is petty but it's genuinely blighting my days

I have cheap boots, the only ones I could afford, and my feet are permanently cold and damp. I couldn't afford leather when I was buying them, and now I can't affordmore.

I could wear trainers but they leak in wet weather, I could wear my wellies but they aren't warm. I'm stuck with cheap boots and I'm pissed off about it. I'm not used to it, I was a spoilt child and always, ALWAYS had leather winter boots.

what's this non-earner shit Norfolk, buy yourself some shoes and tell him it's jacket spuds for dinner as you needed to buy shoes.

SoupDragon · 05/12/2009 10:04

If it makes you feel better, I have leather boots (those "bargain" Fly ones) and my feet are still cold and damp.

ilovejonty · 05/12/2009 10:09

Another vote for ebay, I got some russell and bromley boots for 99p plus £5 postage.

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 05/12/2009 10:09

where are these bargain fly boots.

I don't belong on mn I don't know what fly boots are

kbear we live pretty much like that anyway. I know I shouldnt care but when I'm trying to find the money to pay the bills I think I would find it easier if I could think I'll just do a bit of overtime etc to get the money. My dh and spending money is a whole other story. My mum will get me some just not expensive so will watch this thread for cheap ideas with interest

jemart · 05/12/2009 10:49

I am a womble and proud.

MaureenMLove · 05/12/2009 11:49

Another vote for Ebay, I got a pair too. They were £80 Oasis boots. I got them for £12! The soles were barely marked.

ISawTortoiseFuckingSantaClaus · 05/12/2009 11:57

I have never managed to afford a new pair of warm winter boots. I have trainers or DMs and always wear 2 pairs of socks in the winter.
Worried about buying on Ebay because sizes vary and i don't want to end up spending money on something that i can't use.
Size 8 here too.

SoupDragon · 05/12/2009 11:59

The bargain Fly boots were reduced from £125 to £40, as posted on MN a month or so back.

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 05/12/2009 15:06

what are fly boots?

Heated · 05/12/2009 15:14

What sized feet?

Heated · 05/12/2009 15:15

Sorry, have seen you're 5.

Heated · 05/12/2009 16:08

Am gutted, dh took some items to the charity shop last week including some bn long black leather boots size 5 that were just too tight - arrgh!

Can you ask Santa to bring you some?

MadameOvary · 05/12/2009 16:12

Another vote for eBay here, and charity shops. You need never pay full price for boots again (or anything else!)

upahill · 05/12/2009 16:17

TK Maxx is ok as well at times.

Flibbertyjibbet · 05/12/2009 16:23

For cold feet in any boots make sure you have a pair of 100% wool socks. Much warmer than cotton or nylon and they still keep warm even when they are wet. (I should know )

I'm not even going to LOOK at ebay for boots for several weeks now as you lot will all be pushing up the prices

HohohoBumperlicious · 05/12/2009 17:08

I know the feeling, my £3 primark brown boots have developed a hole in the sole

MadameOvary · 05/12/2009 19:10

Barbour Eiger socks are fab and indestructible. I have had mine for about 15 years!

shallishanti · 05/12/2009 19:18

charity shops!
I would not normally but shoes in charity shops but recently got some very nice almost unworn desert boot type things for something daft like £5.

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 05/12/2009 22:24

NorkyButNice, you look like you probably have slim calves and narrow feet, but if you don't and you have CAT, would you drop me a line please?

GrendelsMum · 31/12/2009 23:58

Just for anyone that comes back to this - the way to reliably buy shoes and boots on Ebay is to pick a pair of your existing shoes that fit well (or got to the shops and try on shoes until you find ones that fit well), and then search Ebay for that brand of shoe in the size that you've previously identified. (This definitely works reliably with Bally shoes from my experience)

This also works for ankle boots, but I wouldn't recommend buying knee-length boots from Ebay, because you can't tell whether the width around the legs will be right.
