Cheese is the ultimate on a potato I think @RumBananaSundae. Damn it you need a bigger freezer. I know I do!
I'm so sorry about it being pants. Is there another job that you could do also whilst looking for this one? I'm thinking of doing something I did many years ago as I think it might stand me a better chance of finding something (I could be very wrong. It has been known before)
I wrote my own CV and then got ai to tweak it. Work aren't being much help tbh although boss said he would look over it for me, I'd rather do it myself though. Did you get help with yours or have you done it yourself also? I never mind you asking sweetie. Xxx

I'm on the sofa watching gardeners world. I need more salvias I think.

DotCottonsSocks · 18/10/2026 22:28

@DirtyGertiefromno30 awww the description of your mum sleeping so sweet hope she was nice and settled.

Thank ypu @DirtyGertiefromno30 @Frugal25 @RumBananaSundae for your well wishes, we both didn’t win but was nice evening out we met one of my nans old friends who was there so they got a catch up.

£22.50 spent on bingo books 😢 and £3 on a 6 pack of juice can to take in with us, brought 3 home so are in fridge. Justifying this as I don’t drink alcohol and never go out unless special occasion lol.

Came home walked dog and have popped some broth mix in a jug of water to soak overnight, plan to make soup tomorrow.

Just realised I haven’t properly introduced myself to everyone. 39yo F have 1 DS 1 OH and 1 dog 😂 live in Scotland, work local council clerical role (very boring not senior so not best paid but not worst) have 18 years left on mortgage trying to overpay this whilst maintaining paying into savings and having some kind of life. Trying to cut any costs where I can currently.

Wow sorry for super long post.

Cheese on a potato, absolutely the best topping ever @Frugal25 & @RumBananaSundae😋.
Doing your own CV and getting AI to have a fiddle with it sounds like a good idea to me @Frugal25. You know best what you can do and it’s probably better doing it yourself than relying on work to help. Not that they seem very forthcoming 🙄 but nice of your boss to offer 🤗. Hopefully it’ll give you a better chance of finding something you really want to do sweetheart 🤞

Oh don't apologise for long messages @DotCottonsSocksit's lovely getting to know a bit more about you! 😊 At least you had a nice evening out, even if you didn't win anything, and lovely that your Nan got to catch up with an old friend. I think you can let yourself off over the bingo books and juice, especially as you don't drink and don't get out very often! You have to enjoy yourself now and again sweetheart. 😊
Soup sounds lovely for tomorrow too, just the thing in this cold weather! You're doing your absolute best juggling the mortgage, saving money and still trying to enjoy life a bit. It's hard getting that balance right but you can do it 🤗

Afternoon everyone 😊
Been to town this morning, found the Dds advent calendars and bought them!! They wanted Guylian ones and l can't find them anywhere so when l found them today l pounced 😁
That was £24 in B&M l know they are expensive but this is the first year l have seen Guylian doing an advent calendar. Bit much really but there we go . It's turned out lovely here now 🤗.
Hope everyone is ok and having a good day 🤗

DotCottonsSocks · 19/10/2026 15:39

Afternoon all ☺️

Advent calendar sounds great @DirtyGertiefromno30 my son wants a Lindt one this year so will need keep an eye out in Tesco on a deal.

Soup is made simmering away. Got celery on Aldi super 6 with additional 30% off sticker on it, my nan gave me carrots and bag potatoes as £1.39 in Aldi. Managed make large pot soup, 2 large freezer bags with additional veg to use at later date and have some potatoes left for during week as a side with a meal.

Popped into Tesco there to get reduced baguette to go with soup 55p and Lao picked up 2 packs of 5% beef mince down to £1.45 yay!

Frugal25 · 19/10/2026 16:40

Oh your soup sounds amazing @DotCottonsSocks and how lucky are you to still have your nan in your 30s? I wish I still had mine.
Ooohhh I didn't know they did guylian calendars either so I best get myself down there too! Thank you. My 2 friends and I always swap calendars so they will love these.

NSD for me today. Went to work to recycle my old phones and then home for lunch with DM. Work is dead, so I've written my Christmas list and budget down on paper to take with me to shops. I always have a budget, but it's on my laptop so when I go shopping it's out of sight and mind and then I end up blowing said budget and everyone gets too many gifts. Not this year.
Think we have a deliciously Ella recipe tonight of baby potatoes, kale and hummus. Will pop some scampi with OHs dinner or he will get hungry.
Think I've broken my little toe, I have metal door surrounds that form part of the structure of the house so can't remove them. Stubbed toe on one this weekend and it's blown up and purple. Can move it..... A little too much actually so yeh, this it's broken.

To introduce myself @DotCottonsSocks I'm 44 F with 1OH and 1DD and 2 cats. Live in Essex and currently work in London for a bank but that stops soon, so job search starts soon too. Getting married next year and have about 18 years on my mortgage too. Lovely to meet you xx

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 19/10/2026 17:06

You’ve done well there @DotCottonsSocks! Can’t beat a bit of yellow sticker shopping 😂. That mince was a bargain! You’ve got loads out of your veg too, soup for today and extra veg in the freezer. 😊 Your son’s Lindt calendars are on a Clubcard offer in Tesco, £7 they are the cheapest l could find 🤗

OP posts:
DirtyGertiefromno30 · 19/10/2026 17:10

I think taking your budget shopping with you is a really good idea @Frugal25! It's so easy to get carried away at Christmas, especially when you want to treat everyone. Your dinner sounds lovely and I think adding scampi for OH is probably a good idea! Oh bless you, your poor toe! ❤️ That sounds really painful, especially with all the swelling and bruising. Hope it's not too sore when you're walking about sweetheart 🤗

Oh yes l better I produce myself too 😁.
I am a retired nurse , 65 years old , l don't know how that happened 😱. I have a 70 year old Dh and 2 Dds 32 and 31. I live in Monmouthshire and I have a Mum who is 95 in February who lives in a care home and l visit her every other day for about 4 hrs ❤️

Don't think I want to add up what I've spent this weekend. DH and I had a lovely weekend away to stay with my son, his fiancee and GD - had a lovely time out on Saturday pumpkin hunting as well as visiting a country fair which had loads going on. There was a plethora of food outlets so we all ate out plus took cakes back home. Went shopping on Sunday and bought the requirements for a Sunday dinner which DS cooked but also went Garden centre browsing to look at Xmas decorations and had coffee/cakes/cream tea. So all that plus two petrol purchases and some Christmas decorations fell into my basket too.
Needless to say DH and I are feeling stuffed so just having toast for a snack tea tonight. On the plus side although money was spent, Christmas stuff has come out of the Christmas savings and well......... who cares?!! We had a lovely time!! 😊

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 19/10/2026 19:11

What a fabulous weekend @Rainbow1901! 😂❤️ Pumpkin hunting, country fairs, cakes, cream teas and Christmas shopping 😁👏! Who cares what you've spent, you've had a lovely time! Good for you sweetheart 👏😁

£21.49 today on a packet of Aldi Snickers and a ticket to a Van Eyck talk next month. Then £3.80 on a Marks and Spencer TGTG to collect tomorrow.

Thank you @DirtyGertiefromno30. That was a good find with the advent calendars.

Thank you @Frugal25. No no other job that I could do. Well I mean there are other jobs I could do but I need to convince the people doing the hiring. Rewriting my CV was paid for for me. It was obviously AI written and has thrown me as it was dreadful and if that is what employers are looking for I don’t know where to start. I don’t really know what ATS looks for so maybe that is what they are meant to be like. I should think of someone to look over the one I have rewritten. I do hope you find something. X Hope your toe will be OK too.

Your soup sounds fab @DotCottonsSocks. I love soup mix. I am looking forward to soup season. First on my list is adding broccoli, peas, spinach and green chilli. Result with the baguette. Sorry about the no win bingo.

Had a nice day today. Met my friend. We went to a talk, had coffee and a look round the shops. Found a packet of pasta in the kitchen cupboard.

Don’t lose heart with your CV sweetheart, I’m sure the one you’ve rewritten will sound much more like you and hopefully someone can have a look and give you a bit of reassurance. Fab you have got an M&S TGTG bag, enjoy every crumb 😋. Thanks everyone for the introductions and lovely messages @DirtyGertiefromno30 @Frugal25 @RumBananaSundae @SpookyHalloweenDeviledEggs @Rainbow1901

Appreciate heads up about the advent @DirtyGertiefromno30 will try pop in tomorrow after work to see if can get one and put it aside away from me 😂

@RumBananaSundae sounds like a lovely day you had with friend. The thought of doing a CV is so daunting. Every time I get to try/do a new task I add it to CV so I don’t forget lol. It’s so hard, you know you are a good worker it’s trying to get this across to potential employers. I have worked in local council for 19 years had 1 promotion and 2 sideways moves there’s no progression unless I want to do management and I don’t 😂 so sticking where I am from habit and security.

Sorry about your toe @Frugal25 sounds a sore one.

My OH has a stinker of a cold he’s taken week off work thankfully gets full sick pay. I am sleeping in spare room to avoid him I don’t want to catch it as just starting to feel slightly better. Gave him some lemsips and paracetamol from my pantry supplies. I always try to stockpile these by adding a packet or 2 on my weekly shop.

Guess it’s the season for colds and flus 😩 back to office for me tomorrow had today off annual leave wish I could afford to go part time lol.

DotCottonsSocks · 20/10/2026 08:18

Good morning everyone.

£19.94 spent on Amazon while having my morning tea. Got 30 free trial of Prime so ordered 2 books for my nans Christmas and one of those windscreen covers for the car to stop screen freezing over.

It’s already been cold and frosty here in Glasgow I cannot stand defrosting a car before I drive so hope this screen cover does the trick. Does anyone here normally use one?

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 20/10/2026 10:06

Good morning everyone 🤗
Raining here. Just off to see Mum.
Oh no @DotCottonsSocks, hope your OH feels better soon and you manage to avoid catching it 🤞. We use the windscreen covers and they’re brilliant, saves all that scraping in the freezing cold first thing in the morning 😂 You’ve got your Prime at just the right time too with all the Black Friday offers coming up! Well done you! 😁

SpookyHalloweenDeviledEggs · 20/10/2026 10:17

I always think windscreen covers are a fantastic idea and I would be so greatfiul at 430am. However, that's a level of grown up I just haven't managed to unlock yet. That and a owner of stamps when you don't need stamps, that's a totally new level too.

Frugal25 · 20/10/2026 11:37

Morning all,
Currently waiting on someone at work to call me and they keep pushing the time back. I'm not sure I'm the person they need either but will they listen? So I'll talk to you lovely lot whilst I wait.

Hope OH feels better soon @DotCottonsSocks I don't own a windscreen cover but I should .. it would save freezing my hands scraping the car.
I do own stamps.... But only coz the shop didn't have single stamps so I got a book of them!

£50.21 on Christmas gifts from vinted. Shall do the rest in person to save on postage fees.
Apart from bills and topping up pots (why was I slow to have pots. You earn interest whilst waiting for your hair appointment!) that's it.
Did pay mum back £900. I owed her £2500 for my new radiators 5 years ago. She had forgotten about the money tbh but I hadn't and now I don't have credit card debt I can pay her back. Esp as I know she secretly worries about money. This will help. By Christmas I'll have paid her back in full.
£10 for yoga later too and I'm looking forward to that.
Had to raid my DD piggy bank as she needs 10ps for something at school and I spent mine on her at the weekend. Also, I got nice chocolates for her to take in for the tombola only to be told they want individual chocolates. Meh. Have the expensive box I got you and say thank you.
Went through my Christmas stash and realised that I don't need anything but cards and stamps this year. I've got paper and nice present bags already that I saved from last year. I'll start wrapping next week maybe.

Right. Best join this pointless call. Hope all is ok xxx
