Tried a new cafe today between Pilates and an eye test but it was expensive (£9.50 for a latte and a very undercooked cinnamon bun). But not as expensive as my new glasses (£425 though that's for two pairs - I'm very short sighted and need them thinner plus fancy varifocals.
At least I had leftovers instead of a takeaway. So that's only, what, 20 more takeaways to pay for my glasses.

Lockin26 · 12/06/2026 23:59

@RumBananaSundae ah I hate those serious emails on a Friday. That's a Monday problem I'd think.
@DeepFriedCreamEgg hope you had a good night out.
Glasses are not cheap @drspouse but well worth a decent pair.

Spent the whole evening sorting boxes from DMs - ready for charity shop and tip as soon as I find one open.

RumBananaSundae · 13/06/2026 20:27

Spent £7.50 today between Sainsbury and Waitrose. That included two bottles of cider and some snacks.

New glasses are nice @drspouse.

Thank you @DeepFriedCreamEgg.

Monday is my aim @Lockin26. Hoping I will have had some divine inspiration by then. Well done on sorting the boxes.

Trying to meal plan for next week. I have some grated cheese, cheese spread and a hard boiled egg to use up

Frugal25 · 13/06/2026 20:38

Oh well done on the boxes @Lockin26 are you ok going through the stuff? Xx
Oh lovely leftovers@RumBananaSundaescrambled egg with grated cheese on top. Nom
£1.80 on parking
£5.50 on a cuppa and ice cream to lure DD away from park
£22 on wine and top ups from corner shop.
OH has bought me a new phone as it's rubbish and really isn't working so I paid for everything else today but it was a cheap day.

Frugal25 · 13/06/2026 20:38

Oh egg is hard boiled. Hmmm......

Lockin26 · 13/06/2026 21:19

I'd use the grated cheese in toasties @RumBananaSundae if you shop at Lidl the rosemary and salt focaccia bread make amazing toasties.

@Frugal25 we are clearing DMs house with DB there as a sitting squatter. He does own 1/4 of the house but can't stay there and hasn't done a thing about moving out nearly 7 weeks on. I've taken six full boxes to the Salvation Army today. Was given 13 empty boxes today from an ice cream parlour plus a friend is giving me four proper moving boxes. They are all getting dropped at my DMs house tomorrow and my two Dsis will fill more. In 2024 we lost PIL within three months of each other and I am still selling things from that house! Said to DH this morning I feel like I've been moving house for about 18 months but stayed in the same place! I am also clearing my house at the same time...

Gosh that was long! Hope you like your new phone - that was kind of OH..

In other news
Costco £58.74 mostly essentials, although £16 was for tea and desserts for tonight.

Alwaysgrowing · 14/06/2026 12:04

Just booked a UK holiday for the school holidays £1,200 for 2 locations 4 nights+2 nights w adults, 2 children and a dog. Part of the the holiday will be a day at a theme park for £61.

Spend £25 with the kids at a fete raising money for charity yesterday.

Something sold on vinted for £2 I put up 11 months ago. It was a large book taking up space. It inspired to buy some frugi socks on vinted and one pack sold for £5 straight away so took both packages together.

There's a 5% bond I could apply for from nationwide, for 15 months which is really good. However, I haven't decided how much to lock away as I'm going on mat leave soon and the bond will end when I finish mat leave, so may want to hold back savings for when I am at the end of mat leave, and keep putting £200 a month in my regular saver for 6.5%....however the 6.5 account will mature part way through my mat leave, so I could use that as a boost and still lock away other savings in the bond.

DeepFriedCreamEgg · 14/06/2026 16:39

I'm absolutely hanging! Could definitely do with a Gwen omelette!
Chinese later 😆

Frugal25 · 14/06/2026 18:43

NSD for me today. Got my new phone and it works!!! I have got used to a phone that doesn't ...
Tried to do a BBQ but it didn't really work so threw it all in the air fryer. Was still tasty.
I opened up the 6.5 nationwide too @Alwaysgrowingquite excited by it.
Oohh a lovely holiday to look forward to!

RumBananaSundae · 14/06/2026 19:38

Unexpected spendy day today. Met up with a friend, and it was lovely to see her, but ended up spending about £40.

That’s really good with the boxes @Lockin26. Well done.

Ohhh a holiday to look forward to @Alwaysgrowing.

Feel bad about complaining about work given the circumstances but not looking forward to tomorrow at all. Not seen anything more to apply for.

Theworldisyouroystercatcher · 15/06/2026 06:20

Rejoining using a new name
work changing so will be 3 months with no income. Gulp
today should be nsd

drspouse · 15/06/2026 14:49

Yesterday we had a day out with the DCs and my DF who was visiting. We have National Trust memberships and I put my foot down on souvenirs from the shop, so it was £28 plus £4.20 for lunch and about £10 on ice cream for me and the DCs.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 15/06/2026 16:07

£7.52 in a combination of Asda, Lidl and Aldi today. I bought a different brand of yogurt as it was 36p cheaper. It’s not very nice and not worth the saving. I won’t be buying it again.

Feel like having quiche now @DirtyGertiefromno30. What kind did you have?

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 15/06/2026 19:16

I had a home made cheese and onion quiche @RumBananaSundae and normally they are excellent there , l can only think it had been frozen and defrosted. It wasn't very nice at all 😕.
Nevermind we live and learn .
What yogurt did you buy and which one do you normally have ? I normally buy full fat Greek yogurt in a big pot from Aldi and it's lovely. Not as nice as Fage, the texture is nicer but it's half the price 😁

Frugal25 · 15/06/2026 19:28

I buy the greek from Lidl and that's lovely. Their coconut yogurt is delicious too.
Oohhh I fancy quiche now too. May have to make one for later in the week. Nom.
Forgot to declare yesterday £22 on a friend's gift and
£22 on a fathers day gift for OH from DD

Today was £1.95 on a cheap sarnie which was actually v nice. £18 on another friends birthday gift and £16 on toothpaste for DD, moisturizer and make up remover for me. Wanted a spray moisturizer as it looked quicker to use but it was hideously expensive.

Leftovers for dinner in the form of asparagus tart and homegrown potatoes with peas.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 15/06/2026 19:55

Oh Asparagus tart @Frugal25 that has tickled my fancy 😋😁
Yes to Coconut yogurt in fact yes to Coconut anything 😋
You have had an awful lot of presents to buy the last few days , it's so expensive all the time .l find myself giving up and giving money these days to my Godson and my friends and their children. Thankfully l only buy for my Mum now out of mine or my Dh's family but even still it's a lot . Hey ho such is life 😁

Lockin26 · 15/06/2026 20:24

Love a homemade quiche frugaleers 😋 sorry yours was disappointing @DirtyGertiefromno30 you are owed another one instead.

I also get the Greek 10% fat yoghurt from Lidl. With mixed berries and nuts and a drizzle of honey for breakfast. Should really try the lower fat, but not sure it will be as creamy. Might try the coconut next week. I did that @RumBananaSundae bought the cheaper yoghurt, they went to the back of the fridge then went past their sell by.

Yesterday was a bit spendy with Morrisons £29 for seemingly very little. and a £20 deposit for a fathers day meal next weekend.

Today has been a NSD - I do need cous cous from the coop (we live v close to one) but I'll wait until the morning to keep this as a NSD

Hope the hangovers have cleared up now! I remember going to work on no sleep in the 90s, these days I don't drink so feel cheated when I feel hungover if I have a bad nights sleep!

That's not bad for a NT day out @drspouse good move on the gift shop!

Hello again @Theworldisyouroystercatcher

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 15/06/2026 20:54

Oh l know @Lockin26they are yummy normally . Lidl do a lovely caramelised onion and mature cheddar quiche , it's more like a tart than a quiche but it's delicious 😋.
Well done on the NSD too 👏👏👏😁

I came on here to say the new ham and cheese croissant from Lidl is very nice, had it for breakfast on Monday.

Frugal25 · 17/06/2026 08:31

£10 for yoga yesterday and £6 on a frame for a photo for fathers day.
@DirtyGertiefromno30may and June are the worst for birthdays for me in the year. About 20 of them. When I was youngers ielt was stressful trying to negotiate parties too but now it's just gifts and the occasional meal or drinks.
Love anything from Lidl tbh. I'm a big fan.
Hangover has now passed. Took days! Although yes when I'm tired I feel hungover too @Lockin26 and it's like you have been cheated!!
Meeting a friend for lunch today for another birthday! Ha ha ha. The gift is free though as still using up the bits I got from my neighbour who was chucking new things away to a charity shop. So at least I saved there.

Hi ho hi ho it's off to work we go......

drspouse · 17/06/2026 08:36

Yesterday - £96.70 on train tickets to go and see my mum who is currently in hospital after being admitted for an infection but being released too early. Infection seems really nasty, DB is with her currently. No idea if she'll be out by Sunday when I go. She has historically and recently been really horrible to me and also massively and obviously favours my DD over my DS. Am dreading it TBH.
