@RumBananaSundae no retirement plans yet. A&E it appears I am friends and family emotional support person. I am perfectly fine except for the cough picked up from the waiting room.

@MuddlingLong hello to a fellow food bank volunteer.

Today I have spent £7 on batting for a quilted lunch bag so I can take DD her dinner when she is working late. Only 5 minutes walk away but it may have to sit on the side if she is busy.

MuddlingLong · 11/04/2026 21:19

You are welcome. Thread killing is always a pain on your own.

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/04/2026 08:13

Went for a walk with dog and DH yesterday. Felt good to be out. Looking in fat face. Didn’t buy but £10 chipper mmmmmm

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/04/2026 08:13

Well done on the thread kill

BigSkies2022 · 12/04/2026 08:42

I wondered why this thread had been so busy overnight! Received some pics on family WhatsApp of niece’s 18th birthday party. All very happy.

maybe walking today from Wapping to Canary Wharf. We’ll see. I am feeling rather groggy- need to wake up properly!

needastrongone · 12/04/2026 09:20

Morning.

Got to admit I switched my phone to silent after a while last night as it was driving me bonkers and I try not to check what the notifications are or use it much in the evening so I wondered what the hell was happening!

That is indeed a lot of sushi @RumBananaSundae

Doesn’t sound in the least bit pretentious @BigSkies2022, I love that you mention things not at all on my radar, and most certainly understand the reasoning too. I looked up Seurat after you’d mentioned the exhibition, I have no knowledge of art but I loved the use of light to my untrained eye. We have some work by Aldo Balding - his use of light is wonderful.

Re doing stuff for older DC - I’ve enabled one to independently pick up ‘life’ tasks as part of everyday existence and the other one to be entirely the opposite - nature or nurture - who knows?!

NSD planned today - and just about to put some beef into the slow cooker for a casserole tonight.

Frugal25 · 12/04/2026 09:26

Morning all, the kill of the last thread made me laugh @DirtyGertiefromno30@MyAgileHedgehog@DeepFriedCreamEgg. Well done!

Should be a NSD today. No plans other than going to the park and making a daisy chain for DD homework (how nice is that homework?!) and then making a veggie pie for dinner.

Gorgeous weather today. Hope you get your walk @BigSkies2022
@needastrongone I find nature Vs nurture completely riveting. Really fascinating. How twos siblings can turn out so differently, like me and my DB.

Schnout · 12/04/2026 10:53

I love sushi too @RumBananaSundae. Not always the most frugal meal but it’s yum. Hope you enjoyed it.

Thanks @Frugal25. Short story is that my mum had emergency surgery for untreated internal bleeding and infection which she ignored symptoms of after a fall. It got pretty nasty but seems like she’s starting to heal now. Her brother had died unexpectedly in the week between her fall and the op so she was fairly distracted which sort of explains her ignoring her own condition. This all happened whilst I was on holiday with a 9hr time difference. It’s good to be back and able to help out - although she has a good support network locally too.

Aiming for a NSD today. Mainly having a slow one preparing for dd and me go back to work and school tomorrow.

BigSkies2022 · 12/04/2026 12:14

Day has evolved into gardening rather than walking. Retreating inside from rain showers. Plan to return to the fray in a bit. Also need to get to the shops to top up on some bits.

The Seurat exhibition focuses on the trips he made to the Normandy coast to paint landscapes. It breaks down his technique and describes how he created his own compositions out of the existing elements of the landscape- the paintings aren’t just reproductions of what he saw in front of him, but elements are moved around or omitted to make a more powerful composition. This may be obvious to many, but it hadn’t really occurred to me that this is what even realist painters do. So yes, I really enjoyed the exhibition and actually learned something from it.

I'm just back from holiday with DD and feeling the pinch so think I will join!
I'm on an annoying special diet which means I do really need to take my own lunch to work so I'm going to try not to buy any coffees to add to that.
Don't need any new clothes, really I don't, though I might need to get the DCs some we will try for Vinted. I do have a balance on there though!

We have various ongoing expenditure for the DCs e.g. clubs and activities.
Unfortunately we have a large spend coming out to refurb the bathroom - insurance is paying part of it.
I think I'm going to try and restrict my treats to books from World of Books on eBay.

@Schnout sorry to hear about your uncle and your mum.

@needastrongone soz mate. I have turned notifications off on my phone so I forget that other people have them on. Phones could do with a do not forget banner across the top...

Today would have been a bad except DD needed her pantry refilling. She had been struggling for a few weeks before asking.... We got a big trolley

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 12/04/2026 15:27

Aw bless your DD @MyAgileHedgehogl remember the same scenario with my Dd1 when she went away to Uni .

@MyAgileHedgehog hello back! I've been doing it since covid and have 15 year old DS there with me too. I wanted to get him volunteering and it's been eye opening for him and has hopefully made him more grateful for the life he's got.

Went to Dobbies to get soil to plant my potatoes in today, they've chitted well on the windowsill! Had £18.50 of vouchers so it was free, along with a bag of crackers.

£36 in Tesco, we only went for lunch bits and for some yogurts and raspberries for DWs grandma who just had a hip replacement on Thursday, bless her, after breaking her leg.

MyAgileHedgehog · 12/04/2026 17:14

I remember being so skint when the kids were little that dinner was tomato and pasta for days on end. I couldn't bring myself to ask my parents for money. I don't want my kids to know that feeling.

We went interrailing! DD is 11 so she got a free pass. Mainly Eastern Europe - to and from via Brussels.
