Have just wizzed to Sainsbury’s and the queue for petrol is insane !
Drove past another petrol station and same again. The price for a litre has gone up by 5p since Saturday when I filled up .Has anyone else noticed or is it just a local problem?

There was only one other car at the pumps with me this afternoon.

Massive queue at Costco yesterday - standard. Regular petrol station that we fill up at is 4p more expensive than last week but no busier than normal.
Absolute bunfight on village FB due to most local petrol station hiking the price by 10p a litre!

CautiousLurker2 · 09/03/2026 18:14

No queues where I am, despite everyone needing to drive their kids to school and being in commuter belt. Lots of electric/hybrid cars though.

Filled my car up yesterday just because I was almost empty, but our other car is fully electric. Not going to join the panic.

Happyjoe · 09/03/2026 18:14

Forgive me if am wrong, but when people panic buy, it just drives the price up higher.

The lowest I ever saw it was during lockdown as nobody was needing petrol too.

Went out to a home visit at 2 pm and thought I’d get some fuel on the way back. Went up from 135.9 to 143.9 in an hour 😳

Notonthestairs · 09/03/2026 18:34

Our nearest garage is always busy between 4.30-6.30pm - people getting petrol on their way home from work.

OtherS · 09/03/2026 18:38

No queues, though more expensive. Slightly kicking myself as should have bought it couple of days ago, but was feeling lazy. Weren't any queues on Friday either when OH filled up car and was about 4p cheaper then.

Yikes - mine was 138.9, up from 134.9 on Friday (which was up from 132.9 at the beginning of last week). Glad I stopped today then.

AllSlippersareBanned · 09/03/2026 18:43

I just got petrol as was on fumes. No queue at all and I couldn’t even tell you what it cost, so it can’t have been noticeably higher than the £60th it usually costs.

Nottodaty · 09/03/2026 18:44

I went tonight as I was on empty! Wasn’t busy or queuing but the car behind me put £7:50 in - had a large fancy car and I guess he communtes a lot and wanted to ensure he didn’t run out! The car next to me the older gentleman filling up a Jerry can (maybe he had a lawn mower)
This could be all normal behaviour.

goldenhunter · 09/03/2026 18:44

Weirdly I wondered if there was panic buying going on today as nearly every pump at my local petrol station had the out of use signs on, and only two out of 12 were usable… turns out the rest were broken 🤣 I did wince at £1.50 a litre for diesel though!!

Silverbirchleaf · 09/03/2026 18:44

Nothing out of the ordinary here either, apart from prices rising 4p. But prices always fluctuate.,

Lorrymum · 09/03/2026 18:47

We started having long queues at all our local petrol stations last Wednesday. North Hampshire.

Flinderskleepers · 09/03/2026 19:06

It will get cheaper again next week, mark my words

FlayOtters · 09/03/2026 19:18

no, they're not, but posts like this are the opposite of helpful.

Fatandknowit · 09/03/2026 19:21

Thieving sods by us. Been going up 3-4p per DAY. Its now over 20p+ more per litre than usual.

Do you not watch the news? Arab oil refineries and storage facilities are being blown to kingdom come, oil tankers daren't use the main shipping route from the Gulf. This will cause fuel chaos for some time to come. Pretty sure there are US oil executives laughing all the way to the bank...probably to transfer some backhanders to the 🍊🤡..

ExBert80 · 09/03/2026 19:43

Media, especially the Mail, is determined to induce panic buying.

No no queues here either!!!

But there’s NO chicken AT ALL in Aldi!!! Have people panic bought chicken 😂I am joking btw - sure this will be some sort of bird flu or supply related shortage which I am sure will come with its own level of panic

ColdOut2025 · 09/03/2026 20:17

Don't worry, its all sorted!! Looks like Donald's short position is coming due,as he wants to stop now

CarrotGiraffeandaTeddyBear · 09/03/2026 20:50

I filled upu a week ago and it will last me to the end of next week. TBH I was wondering when people were going to cotton on. I went again on Friday with our runaround and 4 Jerry cans as we use 1.5 cans each grass cut, and I know that if people started queuing they’d get shirty at me filling up petrol cans. No queues either today when I went past the supermarket. There might be a rush over the next few days 🤷‍♀️

Dobequiet · 09/03/2026 20:54

No queues here other than the usual busy times. I usually go before the gym at 6am and other people are usually still tucked up in bed where I should be
