Hello, Im really struggling with money at the moment. Im a single parent to 2 teens and get no support from their father! My freezer is empty, Ive run out of all cleaning and hygiene products and ive tried selling things on vinted but didnt realise you dont get paid instantly, same for ebay. Ive used my 3 foodbank visits and now I dont know what to do as I dont get paid for 2 weeks. I cannot work due to severe Lupus. Are there.any companies.that could help me straight away that you know of? Many thanks

Honestly, at that point phone social services and they will help you out

Eyesopenwideawake · 26/02/2026 12:06

Do NOT go to loan sharks. Try local churches or the Salvation Army.

DaisyChain505 · 26/02/2026 12:07

You don’t need a making money scheme you need help. Contact social services, your local council, citizen advice etc.

Thingsthatgo · 26/02/2026 12:11

schools can help (discreetly). Definitely worth approaching them.

OneGoldSheep · 26/02/2026 12:11

I tried the council but it says the support fund is closed in my area. I will try citizens advise, thank you

What area are you in ?

MaggieBsBoat · 26/02/2026 12:13

If you’ve got a PayPal, set up a prolific account now so that you can start doing surveys. I make about 20-30 quid a week doing that. It’s something that may help longer term.

No decent company would lend you money you can't afford to pay back. Definitely don't go to any payday loan or high interest loan company or individual.

Are you on all the benefits you're entitled to? Could you try and get a crisis loan or whatever they're called now from the DWP?

I guess you could try and sell any valuable possessions you really don't need.

Will the food banks let you go again? Or join one further away?

I'm sorry you're in trouble financially and hope things improve x

Ive used my 3 foodbank visits why are you only allowed 3 food bank visits? Is there not a community pantry or larder near you that you could access? The ones near us allow weekly visits and have lots of free items available in them. What about Olio too, you just register on the app.

Cookingupmyfirstbornson · 26/02/2026 12:17

Put a note in your UC journal asking for an advance loan

CrocusesFlowering · 26/02/2026 12:17

That sounds very hard. Have you family or friends that might do a food shop for you? Are your teens in school - do they get school dinners?

DaisyChain505 · 26/02/2026 12:19

I would definitely call the school. They will be discreet.

Imtoooldforallthis · 26/02/2026 12:19

What about Too Good To Go

OneGoldSheep · 26/02/2026 12:19

My foodbank only allows 3 visits per year, yes my kids get fed at school thankfully!! I dont have any friends or family that can help me unfortunately

I’ve posted a link above there’s a few larders and pantries in the area. There’s also a pay it forward cafe as far as I can see on the link.

OneGoldSheep · 26/02/2026 12:21

I will have a look at too good too go and see if that helps thank you

I see this is the, second of 2 threads you have asking the same thing. Unfortunately, surveys don't usually pay out immediately. I'm so sorry that you're in this position.. I think you should contact your children's school, they can probably help you with discretion.

OneGoldSheep · 26/02/2026 12:23

Thank you all for your support I will have a look at the the things you have recommended to me. Thank you so much

Dragonscaledaisy · 26/02/2026 12:24

Do you have a lupus nurse specialist on your healthcare team who might be able to help with accessing support? I know not everyone is lucky enough to have one.....

RaininSummer · 26/02/2026 12:26

Not a quick fix but if you are unable to work, have had a work capability assessment through DWP if on Universal credit? Also look into PIP.

AnnaQuayRules · 26/02/2026 12:27

Too Good To Go is more about avoiding food waste than saving money. I would avoid as you are likely to get a random bag of stuff that you might not be able to use.
