Hello, Im really struggling with money at the moment. Im a single parent to 2 teens and get no support from their father! My freezer is empty, Ive run out of all cleaning and hygiene products and ive tried selling things on vinted but didnt realise you dont get paid instantly, same for ebay. Ive used my 3 foodbank visits and now I dont know what to do as I dont get paid for 2 weeks. I cannot work due to severe Lupus. Are there.any companies.that could help me straight away that you know of? Many thanks

Also look at shopping online a lot of supermarkets have a big discount on your first shop, I appreciate you would still need money but worth thinking about in the future.

Sorry you’re struggling OP, I agree with speaking to school and have a look for any community fridge type set ups near you. Similar to food bank but usually no referral needed and you can use it as much or as little as you need.

Too Good To Go I would be wary of. It is a great way to reduce food waste BUT it’s not necessarily a great way to get food in a situation like yours as lots of places you could end up with say 5 donuts that all go out of date that day, yes donuts are nice but they aren’t very helpful if you have no food for lunch/dinner and for the £4 you spend on that you could instead have got a loaf of bread, tins of beans and some butter from Aldi which would then cover a few meals for everyone.

It's ramadan, if you are comfortable doing so, go to your local mosque and explain your situation. There are always meal and food donations there during this time.

If you go before sunset, they should be able to provide you with a hot meal.

You don't need to muslim to do this.

They may also be able to give you a monetory donation as you are struggling to provide meals for your household.

Best of luck. I hope it gets easier for you.

Ok thank you for that advice

For longer term.

Is it possible tp arrange child support from the dad?

Jellybunny56 · 26/02/2026 12:36

I would also honestly say short term OP if you have a local fb page then post on there. People do it often on ours and so many people are happy to help out someone who needs it x

OneGoldSheep · 26/02/2026 12:38

Ok thank you for that advice and my kids father just disappeared, I dont have a clue where he is

Try CAP - Christians Against Poverty. You don't need to be a Christian or go to church.

Jijithecat · 26/02/2026 12:49

Try downloading the Olio app.

Similar to a Community Fridge, but people do it from their own home. There might be a Food Waste Hero who lives near you.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2026 12:50

I’m Kent but nowhere near you. Please post on your local Facebook group

whenever someone has done that in our local group - people always offer to help as I do and they get bags of food and shopping

MikeRafone · 26/02/2026 12:51

it wouldn't help int he net two weeks but id seriously consider applying for DHP from your local council - its discretionary housing benefit. The council get a pocket of money form the government every quarter and will issue this money to people that apply

please apply, its fairly straight forward - contact your local council for the form and then enter the details very comprehensively so they can see your short fall

was there a particular reason you have run out of money this month? a larger than normal bill for example or are you struggling every month? are you receiving every benefit you actually should be receiving?

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2026 12:51

Also speak to the school and they have means to help you

You say you have two weeks to wait. I don’t know if you get monthly UC but you need something to get by the next two weeks.

I am in the middle of claiming pip now so hopeless that will improve my situation alot if I get it

sorry now seen this post which possibly explains why you are struggling. Still apply for the DHP and explain in that your circumstances have changed and youre applying for PIP to try and help your situation.

If you’ve got a PayPal, set up a prolific account now so that you can start doing surveys. I make about 20-30 quid a week doing that. It’s something that may help longer term.
https://www.prolific.com

Try Qmee as well. There's no minimum to cash out so even if you only earn 25p for a survey you can transfer that via Paypal right away. You might screen out of a few surveys before you get all the way through one to get a reward but it's worth persevering. It won't earn you megabucks and for the time invested is nowhere near minimum wage (maybe £2 per hour) but it can earn you enough for a loaf of bread or pint of milk per day if you stick with it.

OneGoldSheep · 26/02/2026 12:56

Thank you all for your kind words, I will look at all the things you have advised me to do. Thing have got very desperate and Im going to try my hardest to fix it ASAP. Thank you 😊

Sikh temples will provide food. Some have regular evenings set up.
Your children’s school may have a crisis fund that will be able to provide vouchers.

OneGoldSheep · 26/02/2026 13:09

As we usually do in these circs, we're putting our heads round the door with some important reminders.

Right now we can't see any evidence to indicate that the OP isn't above board – if we did, we'd remove the thread straight away. However, we always ask users to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong.

We strongly advise against parting with any cash or giving away your personal details, and if you receive a PM which makes you uneasy, report it to us and we’ll take a look.

We're sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope you get things sorted soon.

I will have a look at too good too go and see if that helps thank you

Social work have emergency funds so if you call and ask them they can buy you some food

Kadiofakit · 26/02/2026 13:28

So what is your usual income, you say you don't get paid in 2 weeks time? How old are the children, do you still receive child benefit. If so that can be changed to be paid weekly.
Are you on UC? if so you could get an advanced loan/payment
Do you receive any DLA?
I help people through my work who are on benefits, sorry if you are not but it's very unusual for someone to completely run out of all food and money two weeks before next payment.
If you are working and waiting for your salary, have you explored how you could top it up with UC

TicTac80 · 26/02/2026 13:45

I was going to suggest Olio too - it's amazing some of the food items you can find on there are being given away. Also (like PP have said) community larders - pay a nominal amount (our local one is £3 and is a food waste initiative, therefore not means tested) and you can get a lovely amount of food.
