What is your water bill?

I realise this has likely be done to death but how much do you spend per person, per month or how many litres do you use?

Its just DH and myself. We both WFH so are here ALL day though. I do 1 load of wash and 1 load in the dishwasher per week (on average). We have a 5000litre tank buried in the garden which takes all water from the roof, so very rarely use the mains water outside. We don't wash the car and always have showers.

Today's bill is £307 for 6mths. The companies home page says we use 173L each per day, but on the bill its 128L each. Its £26 a month each- which doesn't sound too much, but they say we are using above average for 2 people. Are we? What do you pay?

Mine is £18.50pm/£222per year, on a meter. I use approx. 26m3 which is around 75 litres per day. I'm fairly low user, live alone, out every week day, 1-2 loads of washing per week, dishwasher once a week, mostly shower, watering can the garden during the summer from a waterbutt rather than tap.

£20 a month - 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house in NW England.

Domino211 · 20/11/2025 14:37

I think I need to check mine, it’s gone up to £195 a month and was £120 last year…… 2 adults and 2 teens, everyone showers daily but I don’t think we’re excessive in that or with washing machine etc

PurplePolishing · 20/11/2025 14:43

This whole thread is making me want to move up North. That and the people are much friendlier!

Titasaducksarse · 20/11/2025 14:48

£47. 2 of us ( 1 of whom only here 3 of those days).
When I looked at the amount of litres this is and average daily I cannot get my head round how much this is.
Previously we had a leak which we sorted but I still think this is really high.

FeliciaFancybottom · 20/11/2025 15:11

I live in Ireland and don't pay anything for water.

bugalugs45 · 20/11/2025 16:29

I live alone and apparently use an average of 108 litres a day, bill literally came in last week .
I shower every day & wash my hair , usually in shower 12- 15 mins . Also do more laundry than the average single person( towels , bedding weekly ) plus clothes & dog beds etc . Average 4 loads a week .
Dishwasher goes on twice a week average , sometimes 3 , it’s not usually full though , but leaving stuff in there a week would give me the ick and I worry it would smell !
I’ve just paid £209 for 6 months , which is up 40% from my last bill in April .

SandyLanes · 23/11/2025 10:29

I live alone but partner here a couple of times a week. Dishwasher (small one) on most days as I cook from scratch and bake, and I like twice daily showers. I got a water meter a few months back and it’s now £29 a month!

Boomer55 · 23/11/2025 16:54

Thames Water. Metered. £50 per month, single person, in a 2 bed flat. 😳

Lonelycrab · 23/11/2025 18:00

£250 for 6 fucking months. Cheers Thames water you utter robbing gits.

Water by volume and standing charge has gone up by around 35% since my last bill.

Edited

That's outrageous! Same situation £22. Having said that I feel it will creep up in time to match what it was around £50+. 🤬

May I gently ask what you put in your washing machine 4 times a week? I can’t imagine wearing so many clothes to fill a washer that often,..

It says 4 times a month.
sorry but this is not nice. How often do you wash your sheets/ towels/ tea towels etc, as well as underwear and clothes.

KievLoverTwo · 24/11/2025 11:29

£712 a year for two, NE - Northumbrian water, unmetered.

Two DW loads a day (wfh), 5-7 washing loads a week (tiny machine, crap house). One rainfall shower and one huge spa bath a day (I cannot shower, I also need it quite full thanks to shocking skin). One bowl of washing up water a day plus the odd hosing down of patio from bird shit for five minutes once a fortnight.

Their calculator tells me it would be more metered. Before thinking about any garden watering shenanigans.

It jumped 19% in April, which I appreciate is cheap compared to some people's eye watering 2025 increases.

My mate in a 2 bed flat in SE London reckoned Thames Water wanted to increase his already absurd £800 a year (for one person) bill to £1200 this year. I hope he got that sorted.

InveterateWineDrinker · 24/11/2025 21:10

We average about 180 litres per day, family of four. Kids are at school during the day, adults both at home.

I grew up in a part of the world prone to water shortages but seriously, what the fuck are are you all doing to use so much limited natural resource?

TheWildZebra · 20/11/2025 09:33

£185/2 people over 6 months. We don’t have a dishwasher and use the washing machine maybe 4x per month. Quite frugal with water consumption

imo water should cost more. We don’t pay its value. And water should also not be owned by foreign investment funds 🫣

How do you only do four washes a month ? That’s crazy to me

Sarahpainting · 20/11/2025 09:32

We pay £73 a month with a water meter two people.

What wowser! I pay £9 per month for two people.

Am805463 · 24/11/2025 21:45

£94 a month in the Midlands. There’s 6 of us here, I do at least 2 loads of washing a day, dishwasher on 2/3 times a day, probably a minimum of 4 showers a day between us.

Walker1178 · 24/11/2025 22:56

South East Water, 2 adults on a water meter. Shower most days, average 3-4 loads of laundry per week, handwash the dishes each night. 1 WFH, the other out for 10hr shifts and our usage is now just below £28 a month

Nannyfannybanny · 25/11/2025 09:35

Blimey, some of these bills. Se UK, southern water. £34 a month, supply and waste all in one now, metered. 2 adults, usually a GK staying every week. Are low users,we are sensible, don't waste it. We have a hosepipe ban, big garden,4 greenhouses,5 water butts.

amoosebouche · 09/12/2025 14:01

£97 a month, 3 adults. Ridiculous increases lately.

Tell us your secret. Do you wash your dishes in your bath water, after you have washed your clothes in it?

Allseeingallknowing · 09/12/2025 14:06

FeliciaFancybottom · 20/11/2025 15:11

I live in Ireland and don't pay anything for water.

Why? Just Googled. There is a good allowance and even if that is exceeded, it’s capped at £500. Can’t ever see that arrangement here! How can they do that and how do they get the money for sewage and filtration?

Bromptotoo · 09/12/2025 14:10

I answered the question.

Live with OH; kids grown/flown. Wash clothes separately as we have different needs in terms of detergent and I abhor conditioner.

DustyMaiden · 09/12/2025 14:11

157 litres per day 2 people. Got a meter recently. £44 per month.

Lazydomestic · 09/12/2025 14:14

Interesting….. Mine has shot up to £70 a month southern water meter. 1 adult, daily showers, 3 or 4 washing machine loads a week. Disputed bill has gone up from £30 a month 2 years ago 🤷‍♀️
