I also got a parking fine £45, I stopped in a yellow box, I remember doing it and being annoyed if missjundged the traffic lights ahead and hadn't realised so many cars ahead were stopping. There's room for 2/3 cars between a traffic light and a yellow box, after a different traffic light!

I've had that - shouting at the guy with all the space in front to pull forward half a meter so my bum isn't just in the box...so frustrating! Mine was in London though so I think it was £150! Ouch. That was the last time I drove in London.

MaryGreenhill · 12/09/2025 12:15

Yay to @unescorted& @Frugal25 other halves bless them both ❤️

Just reading my menu plan and it seems that was a bit of an exercise in creative writing. Day 1 and 2 went as planned and then i went off script. Its been a very busy week with DH out most evenings for work, we were also getting work done on the house and i needing to be in the office more than usual. So i just winged it most nights. Nice to know that i have the makings of next weeks menu there.

Tuesday was €5 on coffee and a sausage roll in work.
Wednesday was €3.60 on a small breakfast roll in work and i did the food shopping, i didn't actually need to do it then i had €40 off €160 vouchers for Dunnes my mum gave me and they expire tomorrow so it was the only day it suited to do it. I didn't do too badly and spent €131 when i thought it would be a lot more. It included a cooked chicken for dinner which i hadn't planned and lots of baking stuff i stocked up on.
Thursday was €28 in lidl on items they had on offer i hadn't gotten in the big shop

Today i am hoping for a NSD and so far its looking good.

I am definitely falling down a Vinted rabbit hole but i've decided to list some items and if they sell use that balance to buy new things.

@JustStopItNora thats great news about the cheque!

Well done everyone who is starting to sell on vinted. I'm going to put some time aside on Sunday to list some items.

Tonight i am looking forward to a nice glass of wine beside the fire in my new stove!

Frugal25 · 12/09/2025 15:45

Ooohhhh enjoy your wine and stove @pistachiosanscream !
That heated throw looks amazing @MaryGreenhill I may have to get one for mum as she doesn't put her heating on much and this would stop her being cold.

Those yellow Parking boxes got me last year. Hateful things. Now I'm very aware of them and if someone else is driving I do tend to say "in 100 yards there's a yellow box just to make you aware!" Like I'm some kind of sat nav lol

MaryGreenhill · 12/09/2025 15:54

Aw thank you @Frugal25 l think your mum would find it very useful 🤗
@pistachiosanscream oh wow you did really well with the Dunnes coupons and you couldn't not use them that was too good a tratti miss outing . Your fireplace sounds gorgeous, enjoy it 👏🤗

I will see if DH is being sent the Octopus emails,,,,, he does the energy an insurance.
Driving in London or any city is grim.

This week is going to been spendy...the car is getting it's MOT, service and random boy racer exhaust & random rattle combo looked at,

Bargain - £37 on a Panasonic breadmaker from eBay. Not a pick up but free postage.

chimichangaz · 12/09/2025 19:04

I’m loving the heated throws - I’m sure the recipients will be chuffed!

Been a funny day here weather wise- sunny this morning so I painted my fence panels where my neighbours very bright blue had dripped through. Also cut the grass, cleared up the borders and emptied out the summer pots. Hate that job so I’m glad it’s done. Then this afternoon we had thunder, rain and rainbows.

Spent £11 on stationery supplies for my contract working, and repaid £108 to a friend for a gig ticket for December.

Defrosted a chilli for dinner but I must have gone mad with the chilli seasoning when cooking and it wasn’t very nice. Just having a beer to cool down.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

ChipshopPickledEgg · 12/09/2025 19:53

Fucking rain and school runs.
But it also brings yummy hot chocolate and heated blankets.
£20 bedding for daughter
£15 groceries
£5 on a 4am Costa.

Frugal25 · 13/09/2025 16:27

Bonkers weather today!
DD has a dentist appointment so we did that and then popped into our fave toy shop. It's run by a children's author and very expensive but the things are hand made and beautiful. OH paid.
I bought us lunch at the cafe £18.
OH bought bits from Waitrose for tea. Yum.
We then went to the fair in the park. Mostly free tbh. OH bought her an ice cream and i paid for some tickets to rides but a brilliant couple of hours in the sun after the rain earlier.
They had a stall that you could fill a bag for £5 with anything you wanted. I'm glad I didn't stop at that one!!! I saw some gorgeous dresses....I would have gone mad!!!

MaryGreenhill · 13/09/2025 16:48

Your day sounds absolutely wonderful @Frugal25
I would have filled a bag 🤣
NSD for me
Visited Mum who was fine there thankfully
Hope everyone has a lovely day 😁

Afternoon.

Very showery here today today! Ddog and DD got soaked on their walk.

We've had a quiet day today as DH was tired and we are going out tomorrow. The local Oyster Festival! I've done a morning long dog walk and an hours run so have watched the athletics most of the rest of the day!

That toy shop sounds lovely @Frugal25

4am Costa @ChipshopPickledEgg?

Shuffles up on the bench for @Unescorted

Link to distillery. I'll let you know how we get on after the visit.

Spends today £18 at the local village shop. Definitely not cheap, but hopefully adding to the local economy. Very friendly lady at the counter, but my kids say I can chat to anyone!

MaryGreenhill · 13/09/2025 17:17

That Oyster Festival sounds Fabulous @needastrongoneagain.
Have a great time.
We have been watching the athletics and the rugby and the football 🤣
At least Dd2 and DH are happy 😁

£51 at Morrisons and Tesco, but bought stuff to batch cook and save for later so hopefully next week and the week after's shopping spends will be a lot less....

Made a courgette cake this afternoon - it's been on my list all week and just got round to it. It looks ok, will see how it tastes (might be a bit sweet for me as there was a LOT of sugar in the recipe). Wasn't very frugal though - had the idea when I needed to use up some courgettes but when I looked at them this morning they looked a bit worse for wear so I bought some more while at Tesco! Will use the sad looking ones to roast with other veg tomorrow.

Have also done a couple of market survey type things online, in the hope of winning £50 in their prize draw, or being selected for an interview.

Not planning any spends tomorrow, a day at home housework and admin (and batch cooking!). Oh except I need to renew my travel insurance which will be spendy as I have a medical condition (U Colitis) and cover needs to be worldwide and including cruises.

Unescorted · 13/09/2025 19:28

Thanks Need. If the pictures are anything to go by it looks amazing. I hope you have a great time.

Today was a trip to the Hepworth museum. Frugal win - parking around the corner to avoid the eye watering car park opposite the entrance (not affiliated to the museum, just opportunistic). Frugal fail - not bringing a rain jacket and having to sit out the rain storm in the cafe. However it did give us the chance to investigate a National Art pass ... We are mulling it over @£93 for a couple per year. Free / half price entry entry to quite a few things including Lyme Park, Chatsworth, YSP (We spend a fortune going there) and I am dazzled by the options in London..

up until today I’ve had a good run of LSDs and NSDs. Friday was the most expensive one this week as I spent £25 on a present (out of my presents pot so accounted for) and £30 on a takeaway. Other than that it’s been either nothing or under £5.

Today I got an uber to one of dds activities which was totally unnecessary and lazy of us and also ended up being double its usual price. It was less that £15, but that’s £15 I didn’t need to spend. We are going up fi central london this afternoon and dd is wanting to visit a few shops but she’s got birthday money to spend on that.

I have a large amount of tomatoes (maybe 40 medium sized ones) that I need to use up. Ideally I’d like to make something healthy and filling. Has anyone got any recipe suggestions before I make my usual pasta sauce?

Homemade ketchup or pizza sauce?

FirstCuppa · 14/09/2025 13:22

For the tomatoes - do a batch of tomato and chilli chutney for sandwiches! It makes every sandwich amazing. Also good with baked brie and crusty baguette...https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/user/216282/recipe/tomato-and-chilli-chutney

chimichangaz · 14/09/2025 19:07

Very productive day for me, two loads of washing, making breakfast for the next two days and a slow cooker stew (which will also go in the freezer). Also sorted some stuff out for Vinted (need to upload those tonight!).

Spent £30 on a birthday present but my friend is sharing that cost with me, £3 on a blusher and also (from Aldi) bought a moisture meter for a tenner and a serum for £3.

£20 in a card for a friends daughter’s birthday.

Just watched the Charlie Sheen documentary on Netflix and really enjoyed it.

ChipshopPickledEgg · 14/09/2025 20:25

Were also watching the Charlie sheen doc and got to be honest I can't really get into it.
£6 Lidl
£15 Aldi
£3.30 two cakes from a nearby villages cake in the shed.

pistachiosanscream · 14/09/2025 20:26

@Frugal25 id definitely have filled a bag!

the distillery looks lovely @needastrongoneagain

2 busy days. Yesterday was a €50 donation to a charity my BIL is involved in. Also did lots of baking for said charity’s coffee day and helped out. We have lots of treats left for the week too.

Today was very productive and I made €9 on my first vinted sale, I hadn’t charged much for 3 items but these were not expensive to start with and I got my wear from them. Still have lots u can list but will do it slowly over the next while.

I got into my shed and sorted out things that have been lying around for ages.
couple of loads of washing done so small child’s birthday party has school uniform for the week

shopped my freezers and moved stuff into the house freezers. Made beef pies for dinner and some for the freezer, a batch of Cajun black bean soup for lunches and made enchiladas for the freezer using up leftover chicken and homemade salsa I had in the fridge.

this weeks menu possibilities (not a plan as I don’t keep those!)
roast ham, potatoes and veg
pork gyros
lasagne
pasta of some kind
tacos
