17C is quite a low set temperature so you are doing very well to have it only on that @Alwayslearning25

Morning.

Our heating is on, has been a while. I’m a cold person anyway and DH’s spasticity (tightness in the areas affected my his stroke) gets much worse when he’s cold. It’s a good excuse! To be fair, we can afford it and I like a warm house. I did buy a small heater for the kitchen, which is huge now we have the extension and it’s cheaper than using the underfloor heating.

Today will be a small Ocado shop for about £80. I’ve also finished investing our sale monies.

Dsil has given me loads of pumpkin seeds which I’m currently roasting. We had an online therapy session for DH this morning so he’s asleep now. I’ve done some yoga, which I find boring but my joints seem to need it these days.

It’s a lovely day today so might get out for a short walk later.

MaryGreenhill · 27/10/2025 11:16

Morning everyone 😁
Sounds like you’ve had a busy start @needastrongoneagain. Definitely worth keeping the heating on if it helps you both feel comfortable . The small heater sounds like a good idea for the kitchen too. Roasted pumpkin seeds are such a treat, and good for you as well. Hope you get out for that walk later 🤗
Just been to see Mum who was fine there, beautiful day here sunny and blue skies 🌞.
Have put a load in the line fingers crossed 🤞
NSD for me today yay! 😁

Just paid for the Christmas turkey, sausage meat and pigs in blankets. £150 but it’s a 6kg turkey and will feed us for days and days. Feels really extravagant but last years turkey was awful and ruined the meal and the food planned for days. This is probably an over reaction but I booked it weeks ago and we are here now.

needastrongoneagain · 27/10/2025 11:35

Glad your DM is okay @MaryGreenhill. Even I find my dads home too hot so hopefully she’s nice and toasty by any standard this winter 😊

Johaanah · 27/10/2025 11:40

Hey Guys,

hope everyone has had a relaxing or productive weekend!

Dh also put the heating on yesterday for the very first time, it was freezing cold all day and by the evening we couldn't face it any longer, I have one of those heated under blankets with dual control and it's honestly one of my best buys, I pop it on before getting into the shower in the evening and it's lovely and warm when I get into bed.

Yesterday was a low spend day here, dh and I drove to a garden centre to buy some winter bedding plants, then walked into the town which is around two miles, it was colder than I realised as the sun was shining so by the time we got there we were quite chilly, we popped into the John Lewis cafe for a hot drink and cake and as luck would have it I had a reward on my JL card which was tea and cake for two for free!! So that saved us a fair bit. Spent £7 in the pound shop on those tubes of sweets the come out around this time of year, they are only £1 each so I stocked up. £3 in Lakeland on some bag clips, and £11.60 in M&S but I had a gift card so I used that.

Nsd today hopefully, no plans to make any purchases or to visit any shops. Burgers for dinner tonight. Payday Friday, can't believe we are in the last week of October already!

MaryGreenhill · 27/10/2025 11:42

@FurForksSake that sounds reasonable to me for all that .
If it's a really good Turkey and trimmings then you want to get the best it's only once a year after all and it will be beautifully raised free range and fresh . Can't beat it 😁
Ah thank you @needastrongoneagain my Mum's home was nice and warm and l find with them all sitting together in the lounge , their combined body warmth helps keeps them warm too .
She is very happy there thank God 🙏
Fab tea for two for nothing @ JL their coffee and cake is delicious. I know right roll on payday it seems ages since we got paid @Johaanah

Need I just found Steph Rose on YouTube- she does lots of body weight mobility floor drills which are related to yoga flows but also jujitsu - so more fun than yoga! I really like her.

chimichangaz · 27/10/2025 18:08

Evening all. Trying desperately to think what I’ve done in the last three days….
Saturday I think my only spends were a bit of Aldi shopping £22 plus a teddy fleece mattress cover for a tenner which I decided I didn’t need and returned the next day.
Yesterday I did a bit of a Morrisons top up for a fiver, paid car parking and pub meal out with friends - £25 in total.

Today I took lunch into work but did buy a drink at lunchtime for £2.

I was awake at 4 and got up at 4:40, did my ironing and put that and a washing load away and did a bit of life admin before going to work. Am now shattered and will have an early night and hopefully get up early which will help me get to my 07:30 PT appointment at the gym (first one!)

MaryGreenhill · 27/10/2025 18:19

Omg @chimichangaz that's awful you poor thing.
Good luck with the PT tomorrow morning.
Well done on the Low spends too 😁
Must have a look at that Steph Rose you mentioned @BigSkies2022 she sounds excellent 👌

RumBananaSundae · 27/10/2025 19:08

Today spending was just under £10 in Sainsbury’s that included a box of Birds Eye potato waffles. Why I have no idea.

The clementine sounds promising @MaryGreenhill.

Hope you and your daughter are feeling a bit better @Frugal25.

I was thinking the same @Johaanah. Not sure how it’s nearly the end of the year. Where has it all gone.

Good luck with the gym tomorrow @chimichangaz.

I have socks on. I’m not sure if I’m more happy with warm toes or being able to put socks on. Email from the solicitor they are pushing things back a week. A bit deflated but I’ll roll with it. Am meeting a friend for coffee tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll make it. My first outing since the accident.

MaryGreenhill · 27/10/2025 19:31

That is brilliant news re the socks , am so pleased for you @RumBananaSundae😁
Someone l know uses the BE waffles on top of a cottage pie instead of mashed potato .
Apparently it's delicious 😋 🤤

  • £12 Tescos
  • £6 Aldi
  • £12 treated myself to lunch in wagamamas.
  • £20 ordered some storage for Dd play room.
PearlsPearl · 28/10/2025 05:24

Wow @MaryGreenhill I am absolutely making that when I go home! And DS "I hate mash" will definitely eat it too, winner.

@RumBananaSundae hurrah for socks!

RE heating, last year I was so grateful we chose to buy a new build, the gas and electricity costs £200 a month all year and covers the electric car too. In our old (half the size, ten times the age) house we didn't have a car and were spending about £400 a month and always cold. I am a cold person so new build life is for me! (Plus electric blanket, which is never off me).

Here in the hospital it's always warm. I am down in London though which is obviously much warmer than Scotland but it's cos the heating is always on and windows can only be cracked an inch or two.

Spends: £8 on Tweezerman nail clippers. Needed some new ones anyway so doesn't feel wasted. Got decent ones rather than amazon cheapies as I know they'll last. DW bought them after I chose them to stop the dopamine hit. I've been completely cut off financially now which is for the best. My doctor says it's to stay that way while I'm in hospital to break the cycle.

MaryGreenhill · 28/10/2025 06:50

Good morning everyone 🌞
I am off to Costco this morning l will tell you my spends later 🤗
@ChipshopPickledEgg good for you going out for lunch and treating yourself 😋🤗
@PearlsPearlthat's such a positive thing for you to have the financial responsibility taken off your shoulders , also you sound so much better talking of going home and making the cottage pie for your DS 🤗😋. It does look good doesn't it she has put cheese on the too and it's gone all crunchy and yummy 😁
Have a good day everyone 😊

Frugal25 · 28/10/2025 07:13

Oooohhhh those waffles and pie look amazing a dn I'm now very hungry again. Def to adding cheese on top!

Absolutely love socks, yay @RumBananaSundae

So glad you are sounding happier @PearlsPearl . London is so much warmer and I'm Def a southern girl. I get so cold north of the M25.

Mumsnet wouldn't let me post last night. So spends for yesterday were;
£1.60 for photos to be printed out for DDs homework.
Tried to buy a baking tray on vinted, it was just what I needed and only £1.50. I dithered and then someone else got it. Poop. Can't find a other anywhere now. That will learn me!
I think that was it....
Still suffering with an awful cough and cold, as is DD so yesterday we just popped to the park for some fresh air. Today will probably be the same. No yoga for me tonight either so that's £9 back into account. A shame as today is my last day off with her for half term and I'm back at work tomorrow (boo hiss).

@chimichangaz I didn't know Aldi did fleecy bedding. I may have to pop in there.... Hope you got a better night sleep last night

MaryGreenhill · 28/10/2025 08:05

Hope you are feeling better soon @Frugal25. I would never think of looking for oven trays on Vinted you know l need to widen my searches for things in there

Costco Bristol £102
DH filled the car up with petrol
124.9 a litre 7p a litre cheaper than the next cheapest garage.
So the petrol saving more or less paid for the journey . .

Johaanah · 28/10/2025 12:06

Hi Everyone!

Yesterday was indeed a NSD, happy about that, today not so much - I've spent £59.88 in Hollister (online) for a sweatshirt, joggers and gilet for DD2's last Christmas gifts, that's come out of the Christmas pot so not too bad. I also spent £13 on some replacement Tupperware style containers, DH has had the same one for years and somehow the lid has gone astray, I can't bear the moaning about it anymore so I ordered the exact same one and a spare. Getting my hair cut and coloured this afternoon which will be around £76, leaving me with the grand sum of £88 until payday on Friday. I'll push the grocery shopping back a day I think and go on Friday instead of my usual Thursday, might need to top up milk and some fruit but not too spendy!

I think I will try the waffle topped pie as well, looks like it would go down a treat here, especially if it has cheese on top.

Does anyone watch Shop With Imo/Planet Imo on YT? She's so lovely but eats out at Costa so often it's making me crave a toastie - lol.

Hope you are all having a good day :)

MaryGreenhill · 28/10/2025 13:15

@Johaanah hope you enjoy that pie 😋
Yes l live not far from Planet Imo's boyfriend and we watch her she's a darling 💗

Frugal25 · 28/10/2025 13:35

Ooohhh quite jealous that you live near Bristol @MaryGreenhill . I have holidayed for a few years in Somerset near chew magna and I fell in love with it. OH has said he wants to sell up and move to the country. I've agreed as long as it's Somerset. In reality I can't due to family constraints. But that's my dream life.

Thank you for the get well wishes. Have drugged up and taken DD to the park on her bike for an hour. Makes me feel like not such a bad mum as she has had some fresh air.

Currently a NSD. Unless I find a baking tray!!

MaryGreenhill · 28/10/2025 13:45

I love about 36 miles from Bristol and l agree @Frugal25 it's gorgeous there and so is Somerset ❤️ oh arrr 🤣
As if you could even think about being a bad Mummy 😁 You are a darling and so kind.
This illness of yours is clinging on, hope it does one very soon 💐
We go to the Bristol Costco because it's a much nicer/quicker run than going to the Cardiff one .
Although distance wise it's about the same .
Good luck with the tray hunt 🤣
