£7 for a tube of Colgate toothpaste?!?!

I know you can buy supermarket own brand cheapy toothpaste - which we also do - but we have Colgate too, as we differ in our individual preferences and gag tolerances in our household.

I physically gasped and actually squealed in shock when I saw the price of a 125ml tube of Colgate in Asda yesterday - a few pence short of £7! I may also have loudly exclaimed "Behave yourself!!"

They're very vocal about their rollback prices, but oddly enough are completely silent about their extreme roll-forward prices!

I managed to get it cheaper in Home Bargains - £1.99 for a smaller 75ml tube; but I'm still flabbergasted and unable to mentally process that price!

Are Colgate owned by the same company as the one that makes Lurpak, perchance?!

Expensive branded toothpaste is one of those things like coffee that if you pay the full rrp for, you must be daft

Speaking of... who squeezes out the 'pea-sized amount', or is it normal (what I do) to have around the length of the toothbrush?

Well I have an electric toothbrush so do indeed use a 'pea sized amount' because that's what fits on the brush.

But in many cases, it is definitely worth considering how much you use and also that you use as much as possible. For many things on here, people talk about using what looks to me to be an alarmingly high amount. Eg a bottle of shower gel per person per week, or sufficient fabric conditioner, cling film, foil, bleach etc that noticeable savings can be made by not buying the items

But I find that a bottle of shower gel lasts a few weeks and the other things last for months so a negligible amount of a grocery budget.

Plus a lot of packaging seems to be designed to retain a lot of the product so that it is wasted. I make sure I get all of it out, meaning I need to buy less over time.

So buy Macleans. End of problem.

Yup. I was in a pharmacy years ago with a friend who is a dentist. She bought toothpaste and I asked her why she bought that brand, expecting to hear scientific reasons. Her answer was "I like the taste of this one the best". 😁Followed with the statement that they're all basically the same.

I noticed that almost all the toothpaste's at Sainsbury's are 6-7 pounds recently and was like holy moly, wtf.

Managed to get a cheaper one at another supermarket.
