Water Rate Bill Gone up

Itsmyopinion · 05/02/2025 20:08

Just got my water rate bill through and my payments have increased by an additional £24.00 per month. Everything is going up food, council tax …you name it and it’s going up. How on earth do they expect people to keep paying these increases!. Just having a rant

Yeah ours is the same it’s gone up by 47% bloody stupid

Bromptotoo · 05/02/2025 20:44

When you say rates are you, assuming in England/Wales, paying based on rateable value or do you have a meter?

Worth checking which works best based on household size etc.

Also make sure you're on the right tariff and nor missing out on discounts:

Thanks yes based on rateable value - think I will call them to check rates and discuss options.

Ours has gone up too as well as my phone bill. F*ing ridiculous.

Zandra123 · 13/02/2025 15:33

Yes, £23 up a month, council tax up another £8 a month, so the two I know about £31 already extra. It's crazy!

Mertyl · 13/02/2025 18:35

I was paying based on rateable value (Severn Trent Water) and have just moved to a meter. As well as getting a £250 refund based on what I'd paid my monthly payment has gone down from £89 per month (payable for 8 out of 12 months) to £29 per month (payable every month). Wish I'd done it sooner as it was so easy to do.

amiold · 18/02/2025 21:45

Mines gone up from £73 a month to £88. It's ridiculous. Just one adult and a 15 month old.

Can I ask how large your household is? We are also ST and I have considered a meter. There are four of us, two bedroom house, and I don't think we are particularly heavy users. I just got the 'your bill will be ready soon' email today and am wondering how much its gone up by.

If you’re on a meter something is leaking! That’s insane?! That can’t be right.
We have 4 of us and been paying about £18-30 for years.

Or - you need to change to a meter.

amiold · 18/02/2025 21:59

Im not on a meter .. issue is if I go onto a meter in a few years I could end up paying through the nose if the rates go up. Bit of a gamble.

TheDandyLion · 18/02/2025 21:59

Wales Water. Just gone up 60%.

amiold · 18/02/2025 22:00

It's definitely right.

Water Rate Bill Gone up
PeachCrow · 18/02/2025 22:04

@amiold I suspect you haven't had the notification yet. All bills are going up. I believe by an average of 30%+. Hopefully water meter users will be less affected though my water meter using friend has had an email congratulating her on using 5% less water in 24/25 but informing her that her bill will be increasing by 31% in 25/26.

I've had the 'average £16 pm increase' email but not my 25/26 bill yet. Not looking forward to it.

amiold · 18/02/2025 22:07

What notification have I not had?

I've had my bill for next year and I accept it's gone up. Still think it's crazy.

Dromaeosauridae · 18/02/2025 22:08

Just checked and mine has gone up 51% with Dwr Cymru, for water only not waste. I could cry 😭

mumoflittlemice · 18/02/2025 22:14

We’ve just had our bill. We were paying £91 / month up to now, from March it will be £133.62. Absolutely unreal.

mumoflittlemice · 18/02/2025 22:18

and that’s on top of the energy bill increase 😭

pootleondown · 18/02/2025 22:26

Can't understand why all these people with small households are continuing to pay on rateable value when it's so expensive.

We have been paying less than £30 a month for years on a meter with three adults in the house (and I don't really make much effort to save water)

Blushingm · 18/02/2025 22:33

TheDandyLion · 18/02/2025 21:59

Wales Water. Just gone up 60%.

On rates? I've not had my new bill yet 😩

dutysuite · 18/02/2025 23:22

Yes mine too, my house already had a meter when I bought it and I wish it didn’t - teens use a lot of water with showering.
My council tax has gone up 4.99% again and my energy supplier has also increased rates.
I seriously can’t take much more.

They used to say if you had more bedrooms than people you were better off on a meter
I've always been on a meter and I pay £28pm for just me - and the water people said that's at the higher end

Hiya, there are 2 adults plus 1 child part time.

Unless you're constantly watering a garden/filling paddling pool you'll be saving a fortune going on a meter. Check with your water company - some will take you back off the meter within 2 years if you're not happy with it.

proporop · 21/02/2025 17:24

Furious at our privatised water in this country. We're having a 47% increase here in the South East. This comes despite them paying out crazy bonuses to shareholders and polluting our seas and rivers.
