How much is your weekly food shop, I try stick to a budget of £60-80 per week but really struggle so I'm intrigued how much others spend. My price gets dinners for a week and a couple other food items. No toiletries etc.

£60. Two adults and two kids. Includes nappies, basic toiletries and cleaning products. Kids have hot meals at nursery and school.
We buy one take away a week.

Bishopstown · 20/01/2025 22:20

I can’t understand how people manage. We spend £180 for a family of 5. Includes everything but we don’t drink alcohol and only eat meat once a week.

familyissues12345 · 20/01/2025 22:21

Usually around £120. Feeds 3 maybe 4 if DS1 is back from Uni and eating at home. 4 adults, 3 meat eaters and one veggie

Additional to that we have a milkman delivery which is £10 a week (includes eggs).

Most cleaning products are delivered monthly via an Amazon subscription - depending on the order anywhere between £10- 30

That’s amazing! Can you give us some plan examples?
I spend about £80/ week. Four adults, completely random who’s in when so lots ends up in the freezer and I regularly have a week off. No milk (hurrah) that takes up so much fridge and headspace!
Edit to say that looks very frugal but no lunches, few breakfasts. Doesn’t include alcohol.

Edited

Breakfast is toast, own brand cereal or porridge.
Lunch for dc1 is a packed lunch of sandwich, fruit, crisps. Dc2 school dinner. Me tinned tomatoes/egg on toast and fruit.
Evening meals this week (often batch cooked) so i don't have to cook every day Chicken curry and rice, (bulked out with cheap vegetables),
Pan fried Chicken roast, potatoes and veg,
All day breakfast,
Beans on toast, fruit and yoghurt,
Shepherd's pie,
Jacket potato beans and cheese,
Savoury rice and chicken,
Spaghetti bolognaise,
Chilli and rice,
Sausage pasta.
Things like herbs, spices, pasta and rice I bulk buy. Cook everything from scratch. Freeze milk and bread. Use frozen veg. Buy the cheapest fruits. Dd likes a pineapple so for 99p that's about 5 days of fruit.
Snacks- crackers with cheese or butter (49p Tesco own brand), cheap biscuits, crumpets, breadsticks, make flapjack or biscuits and freeze. Buy what's on offer.
No alcohol, buy teabags, cordial etc in bulk. Some days you'll see are very cheap eg beans on toast which means I can buy extra meat. I add extra beans to the chilli or veg to something to stretch it out.

£100 per week. Two adults and a three year old. I work 2 days so don't eat at home they days. Three year old goes to nursery three days so eat breakfast and dinner at home they days. We have a takeaway once per week this anywhere between £30 and 45. Then spend £20 through the week with fresh bread/fruit.
I feel like we spend a lot but I don't know how to cut it down. We don't buy lots of branded things. Only tomatoe sauce and Frosties.

randoname · 20/01/2025 22:45

@Nomoreitsnothappening that’s so funny! I’m on an intercity with a rather ripe pineapple- bought it just before new year because they’re delicious and so cheap and I’ve been logging it around since. It’ll be someone’s breakfast…

Icequeen01 · 20/01/2025 22:45

I spend around £800 per month. That's for 4 adults (fourth adult is DM85 who eats with us every evening as she can't really cook a proper meal now). I also have 3 cats! It's an eye watering amount of money each month.

hookiewookie29 · 21/01/2025 11:36

Usually around £140. 3 adults and a dog. I work from home and DH and DD don't work so we tend to eat more than if we were going out to work. That includes toiletries, cleaning products etc and I don't top up with anything in the week

CherryMarigold · 21/01/2025 12:37

Around £850/£950 a month plus £200 a month term time for DC in university.
Food and groceries are our largest expense.

workworkwork123 · 21/01/2025 12:42

Minimum of £200 a week for 2 adults, 3 preteens and 1 toddler. One has allergies so only certain things can be brought, I can't get it less

ohpoowhatnow · 21/01/2025 16:57

Hello fresh for 5 meals is around £50.
Weekly shop £80 ish.
One takeaway £30

Iliketulips · 21/01/2025 17:05

I was spending roughly £50-60 for two adults and DD&BF eating with us a couple of nights a week. DD officially living with BF the last month, so doesn't come home so much to change over clothes and tie meals in with that. This month have been under £30 every week, but in general I'm expecting to pay £45 for the two of us, including groceries, cleaning things and some toiletries (I get most toiletries at work at a discount though and they don't come off our discount grocery card). We're mainly veggie, only desserts DH sometimes has are yogurts and we're not into fizzy drinks and fruit juices, so that probably helps.

Blueeyedmale · 21/01/2025 17:33

Around £60 to £80 per week me on my own Mon to Thursday and DS is here with me Fri to Sunday

ffsgloria · 21/01/2025 17:38

2 adults, 1 teen. Approx £125 to include top ups. Includes everything - alcohol- admittedly not much of that, cleaning/hygiene products, and all meals (breakfast/packed lunches/dinner). We're mostly a veggie household & don't buy many brands.

DazedAndConfused321 · 21/01/2025 17:48

About £300-£400. 5 children under 8, 2 adults. Includes drinks and snacks but no alcohol. Not including pet food or household items. We eat fairly clean and all meat is from the butcher (included in this price) so I think it's reasonable. We're blessed to not be on a strict budget so this is our average weekly shop, but 'treat' weeks or special occasions it can be more.

TheOracleatDelphi · 21/01/2025 19:46

180-200 per week at Aldi - 3 teens and 2 adults and a cat.

That's with no real treats and just staples really - including cleaning products but no alcohol. I've noticed the costs going up a lot over the last 1/2 years

Bookaholic73 · 21/01/2025 19:48

3 adults. £120 a week

Ilovemyshed · 21/01/2025 19:59

I went to our local town market the other weekend and bought an absolute ton of fruit and veg. I thought it would be £35-40 ish. £21!

Bumblenums · 21/01/2025 20:03

130-140 2 adults 2 primary kids. 5 years ago I thought 100 was expensive, now I can't get it below 130

ilikeeggs · 21/01/2025 21:32

Around £80-90 a week on average which is for 1 adult and 2 kids.

Purplestarballoon · 21/01/2025 21:42

£60-£80 a week in aldi for 2 adults and 1 child. All meals and most cleaning stuff but not toiletries.
5 years ago it would be a massive shop with lots of treats to spend £50 at Aldi for 2 adults. Mad how the prices have gone up.

mnat · 21/01/2025 21:47

£130-£150 a week, Sainsbury's, 2 adults and 2 teens. That doesn't include alcohol or toiletries. I cook everything from scratch and try to buy organic where possible.

Lovelybitofsquirrel3 · 23/01/2025 00:17

If really trying, about £100. But only if I’ve already got things in, otherwise it can be £150

Definitelynotem · 24/01/2025 15:39

Ours is around £70 a week now from ocado for 2 adults, no toiletries but includes cleaning stuff. I could get it cheaper if I wanted but no need to at the moment. Probably get a takeaway once a week too

NotAnotherBirthday · 24/01/2025 15:40

3 adults. Around £175 per week / £750 per month.

That includes the cleaning stuff and some toiletries and we eat a LOT of fresh fruit and veg and meat. Still, it's expensive.
