Is that really high?
How much do you pay for similar?
Just been told my bill will be going up around £181 per year

Not sure how I'm going to afford that

That's very high. We pay £120 a month for gas and electric for a 3-bed house, this summer our use has been way less so we've got credit for the winter. We don't have a tumble dryer, get a heated airer instead! We're frugal with heating - when we lived in a flat, we barely used the heating.

£170 a month for a 3 bed both gas and electric.

If it's £160 a month for just electric, something is amiss surely!

Quite a few people saying Octopus giving high estimates, despite having accurate meter readings. The same thing happened to my parents - surely this will make people switch providers? It seems very short sighted from them. They tried to bill my parents over £1400 based on estimates for a 6 month window, despite having meter readings.

I have checked what octopus is basing my "next year you will pay this under new prices" letter on.

they said i used 4500 day units and 2500 night. Total cost £1950 next year.

But actually i use 2500 day and around 3580 night. which is around £1000 for next year. They have all these readings. my DD is only £66per month.

So their estimation per that specific letter is MAD. but it doesn't affect me much as they charge me on actual usage and i monitor when they get it all wrong.

This is a really interesting point. I'd not actually read their letter as I check it all regularly on the app. My electricity usage they've quoted is about right but they've quoted 5,100kWH for gas when in the last twelve months I've used 3,400. So that's an over estimation of what, 1700 units so 50% more than I actually used?
