Aprilsund · 14/09/2024 15:51

Is that really high?
How much do you pay for similar?
Just been told my bill will be going up around £181 per year

Not sure how I'm going to afford that

Is that everything electric? What appliances do you use? Approx 160 a month seems high. Is that actual readings?

Weemammy21 · 14/09/2024 15:55

£130 for a 3 bed house is what i pay for both gas and electricity

Weemammy21 · 14/09/2024 15:56

£130 a month

DearGoldFish · 14/09/2024 15:58

over what period of time is key info

DearGoldFish · 14/09/2024 15:59

over a year?

seems ok to me

Aprilsund · 14/09/2024 16:00

Just usual appliances, we do use the tumble dryer a lot. No dishwasher

Heating and water is gas, waiting for that bill 😮

Mine is approximately 1500 for combined gas and electric in a 4 bedroom stone built old house which isn't particularly well insulated. £1900 without heating or water seems incredibly high.

FunLurker · 14/09/2024 16:06

My electric is £170 pm, gas bit cheaper. 4 bed detached house. Tumble, dishwasher and big outhouse out back.

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 14/09/2024 16:08

If you have gas as well then yes, that's ridiculously high.

How is your water heated?
What is your shower? Gas or electric?

Are you on normal rate electric or economy 7?

Something seems wrong. You need to start taking meter readings every hour if it's not a smart meter.

Pilotingmyownlife · 14/09/2024 16:08

I have an old 4 bed semi and pay 130 a month combined gas and electric. I'm disabled and home all the time, plus 3 dc (2 teens, one adult). I think yours is pretty high. Just as an insight including the 68p standing charge I spend £1.30-£1.50 a day on electricity. Which would be just over £500 a year. I've had the tumble drier on a couple of times this week and estimate that to be about 70p for two hours so that could soon add up (hence I usually use an airer or outside).

Chewbecca · 14/09/2024 16:16

Yes, that's high.
You already said you tumble a lot, that's pricey. Do you use an immersion heater too? Underfloor heating? Any electric heaters?

Greyrockin · 14/09/2024 16:21

That seems a lot OP. My charges for 2023 are below, for a small 2 bed apartment, I am a single person household though. I run a dishwasher every day but don't use a tumble dryer much. I do have dehumidifier and air purifiers and wfh 3 days a week. I don't scrimp, but I do only heat the rooms I'm using, so gas is quite low. I went on to the Octopus Tracker rate around August last year which has kept bills down.

I have loads of gadgets running all the time and my lounge is quite dark so lights are always on too.

I think I will have to contact my supplier

Both my gas and electric has been £61

Treeinthesky · 14/09/2024 16:31

If your struggling ring them. I emailed octopus and they stopped the standing charge for 6 months. I.pay 200 for a 3 bed and was 1000 in debt. They froze the standing charge and gave me a free electric blanket.

Mooneywoo · 14/09/2024 16:32

£163 a month for electricity in a gas heated 2 bedroom flat is insane.

I pay around £60 a month for electricity in the same property. 2 adults, 2 children, not overly fussy about energy consumption and a tumble dryer used about 2 times a week.

AgnesX · 14/09/2024 16:34

Ours is roughly the same give or take. We both WFH now though.

Nolongera · 14/09/2024 16:35

Is the £1958 your actual usage or what the electricity company think you will use?

Shadowbox7 · 14/09/2024 16:37

1 bed, £133 per month

burnoutbabe · 14/09/2024 16:40

2 bed flat. Economy 7 heating /hot water. Both work from home.

Around £2000 is the new price octopus told me for the next 12 months after prices go up.

So £166pm -but that's everything and heating on in winter to be nice and cosy.

Ohnobackagain · 14/09/2024 16:41

@Aprilsund in order to tell you if it is high we need to know how many kwh you use per year. And also to know the standing charge and the price per kwh.

Watchinglost · 14/09/2024 16:50

We pay £200 a month in an all electric 2 bed flat but we are high energy usage with a baby - heating on all the time in winter, washing machine on every day etc.

NewGreenDuck · 14/09/2024 16:58

I pay £260 a month for gas and electricity. It's a 4 bed 3 storey Victorian house. I'm about 900 quid in credit as we go towards the winter. I'm with Octopus.
There has to be something wrong with the figures you are being given. I can't believe you are using that much. Check your bills and make sure the readings are accurate.
