Count me in please!! Just come off holiday 😎and had to go shopping today as we had eaten our way through all the remains in the freezer/fridge/cupboard before we left. We managed this morning as my neighbour bought us a loaf of bread and the milkman had delivered. My shopping bill was £109.44 in Lidl and £29.35 in Home Bargains. Need to do a meat order and we should be okay for June/July. Didn't think it was possible to spend that much in Lidl!!

Songlines · 03/06/2024 06:07

Thank you for the new thread!
June will be tight; car needs a wheel bearing replacing plus a service and I'm going away for 12 days😀 But that's what savings are for, right. Checked my account balance this morning and had a panic but then realised that it's the 3rd not the 2nd so all the DDs have gone out. Bought a laptop sleeve on Amazon but think I can claim it on expenses as I need my work laptop when I'm away.
So NSD 2/2

WhitegreeNcandle · 03/06/2024 06:57

I’m in please. Spent a whopping £689 in May on food which isn’t good for the bank balance or my waist. Trying to have a low spend month so that there’s a bit of a buffer for the summer holidays.

Started well this weekend. Tesco shop done for a week for £78 and used clubcard vouchers to take the kids to see IF. Which was brilliant!

Aiming for a NSD today as just a bit of work and home jobs to do.

Greenmayleaves · 03/06/2024 07:01

First timer here but I'd like to join!

June is an expensive month for me with family birthdays so some NSD would be really helpful to get through the month.

Yes please. Going to try to stick to food and fuel only.
I've got a couple of bigger bills coming up this month so less available in June.

psuedocream3 · 03/06/2024 10:22

Thank you for the new thread @Disneyland2022, I'm in! 2 NSDs so far and today should be too.

Spent some time over the weekend doing the budget and figuring out what we have to play with and savings goals etc. I was thinking it would be a tight month due to tax and insurance but I had already budgeted this in my figures for last month, so my outgoings monthly are reduced going forward.

Expected spends £40ish for Fathersday hamper bits, technically £65 as I have a £25 off £60 spend but I expect some of that to be food bits and maybe some protein snacks for my fitness. And £40 of Costa gift cards, they have an offer for an extra £5 on a £20 spend from the 10th so I will buy for my daughters birthday coming up. Both will come out of the gift budget, and £40 on petrol.

Lots of good offers on Amazon on toys/books currently, will use money from the gift savings pot to buy a few, they also have £3.00 off a £10.00 spend on collection point orders, making some bits absolute steals.

I should have roughly £70.00 fun money, I don't expect to use it but nice to know I can if I like.

Good luck everyone.

Pumpkin40 · 03/06/2024 16:31

I need to join please. I had an expensive half term. I have 3 birthdays and 3 Father’s Day gifts to buy. NSD yesterday and today.x

Vinorosso74 · 03/06/2024 17:05

Thank you for the new thread! I'm in for June after quite a spendy May.
Looking through calendar for June, I've got a dental check up and hygienist appointment next week so that's about £100.
Met some friends at the pub yesterday so spent there. Today was a few food bits and I need to get petrol when I pick DD up later.
Got an extra shift this week and am being paid to keep someone's cat company on Thursday afternoon so that will help a little.

Disneyland2022 · 03/06/2024 20:40

Ok not done too badly today - ventured to the park, caught up on some washing but did cave and spend £2 on treats at the bakery!
small win that the ice cream van wasn’t at the park so avoided spending there 🎉

Songlines · 03/06/2024 20:56

3/3 😀

WhitegreeNcandle · 04/06/2024 18:10

@Disneyland2022 well done for avoiding th ice cream van. Ours is nearing £20 for the 4 of us to get an ice cream these days. Ridiculous!

NSD yesterday and today for me. Quite pleased with that start! No reason why tomorrow can’t be another.

Songlines · 04/06/2024 20:35

4/4 BUT I'm heading off for the next two weeks so there won't be many NSDs from now, I thought I'd better make a good start!

Rainbow1901 · 04/06/2024 21:32

Only one NSD out of four days so far!! I have been shopping since we got back off holiday and so far spent £240 on food for two of us. Not entirely unexpected as we spent the few weeks before we went away eating variety of odd meals to save money and clear everything out.
Just had a meat delivery arrive which will last us probably most of June and July - so the freezer is full - not an inch of space to be had anywhere. Had to pull out stuff and cut boxes down to make room 😅so I could get everything in. Really happy that there is a ham joint and a decent sized leg of lamb in the pack because I love lamb but rarely buy it because of the cost.
Now I need to menu plan as there are some lovely marinaded packs which deserve to be served up appropriately. We have chinese, peppered, bbq, garlic, nandos flavours on the various meats as well as plain for me to be inspired and a side of ribs which will be ideal for the BBQ (if we ever get to use it this year!!) and four kinds of sausages. Time to get out the cook books!! 🤓

TheMainCharacter · 05/06/2024 11:45

I need to join please. These threads have really helped me when I’ve posted on them previously. I’ve been a bit spend happy recently so need to rein it in. I downloaded the snoop app which told me how much I’d spent at various retailers since 2022. There were some absolute shockers there 😱

June to date
Groceries £94.81
Father’s Day presents £66
Swimproof jewellery set £34.83
Bikinis £29.28
Case of wine £30.88 (had a £25 credit on my account as well as £70 worth of vouchers)

On the plus side I had 3 NSD’s to start the month (then went mad)

I have a few subscriptions (contact lenses, loo roll, and a couple of Amazon ones) coming out in the next few weeks so need to aim to buy nothing else other than groceries. 😬

moimichme · 05/06/2024 19:05

Hello everyone and thanks for the new thread, @Disneyland2022!

I've gone a bit overboard so far in June, with only one NSD so far. It's gone partly on spends (incl. summer temperature clothes) relating to our upcoming holiday to the U.S. But trying to stay sensible so that we have money saved for the trip - I'm sure I'll have sticker shock looking at the $$ prices there vs. £ here.

About £150 on holiday related spending, £60 for Father's Day and £75 on groceries so far. Plus £50 on ds for him starting gymnastics.

But I also sent £500 to short term savings as a buffer for higher than expected costs. I need to be frugal, but we can have a few fun spends too, hopefully.

FoolShapeHeart · 06/06/2024 01:18

We've just come back from a short break (not majorly spendy but no NSDs). Slightly late start but any start is better than none!

Tomorrow I'll buy produce & bread, (possibly tea out) and charge up my public transport prepayment card, then try for NSDs the rest of the week.

WhitegreeNcandle · 06/06/2024 10:49

Not quite a no spend day for me today as I had to go to Booker for the business so stocked up on a few household essentials at the same time. I'm sure lots of things there are still more expensive than Tesco but there are some good things to be had. £75 on a Tesco shop which will last till next Friday but we're away for 2 of those nights so pretty steep still!

TheMainCharacter · 06/06/2024 13:22

Another £24.92 spent on groceries bringing the totals so far to

Groceries £119.73
Father’s Day presents £66
Swimproof jewellery set £34.83
Bikinis £29.28
Case of wine £30.88

Songlines · 06/06/2024 17:28

Low spend day yesterday, meal deal at the airport was £4.99 but I've put money into the joint kitty today so that was quite spendy!

Rainbow1901 · 06/06/2024 17:33

At last, a NSD!! that's 2 out of 6 days so far!!

psuedocream3 · 06/06/2024 19:12

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well so far in June.

4 NSDs so far and spent

  • £2.94 Amazon (Melissa Doug toy, Father's Day card, childrens book)
  • £35.00 Car tax
  • £41.25 Ocado order (Father's Day hamper items and lots of ice creams)

Small wins

  • Petrol not needed this week - revised monthly total to £30 from £40
  • Two product tests received (protein bar and cooking sauces) plus £20 payment for extra ingredients
  • Re-run car insurance quotes and they are just over £20 cheaper than the early ones - I can put the £20 back in this months budget.

I've resisted buying skincare at half price today.

Disneyland2022 · 06/06/2024 19:49

Another Spend today - took kids into the cafe, only £7 but definitely wasn’t needed.

Resisted the urge to go to the shop for snacks etc.

small wins - managed to make dinner from leftovers and pantry bits so saved money there.
In desperate need of a food shop tomorrow so will make my list tonight.

Vinorosso74 · 06/06/2024 20:16

I've not actually managed a NSD yet! Needed various food and cleaning things. Must try harder!

TheMainCharacter · 07/06/2024 11:11

Another £8.42 on groceries to see us through the weekend.

Groceries £128.15
Father’s Day presents £66
Swimproof jewellery set £34.83
Bikinis £29.28
Case of wine £30.88

Rainbow1901 · 07/06/2024 16:37

£3.35 in Lidl on Cholesterol drinks and Bread but also got freebies of a box of icecreams, a red pepper and pack of two Sweet red pointed peppers saving another £4.35!! Winner!!
But forgot to buy cat food - but can manage a few more days without that. Still at 2 NSD out of 7 though!! 🙄
